I’m not exactly sure how this stuff works. I just went through Wei all the way to Chang An and I didn’t get anyone other than about fifteen Outlaw Forces and thirty Yang Huai’s. Seriously what is this Yang Huai stuff.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMay 12, 2006 at 6:14 am #19711Zhang LuParticipantDon’t worry lordyuanshu, my head’s spinning too. How could I get Pang Tong well before I’m supposed to? Sadly, all I can do is list’em how I get’em. This is best experimented with by using one save state. Save it before you use the Zheng, and if the person you got isn’t what you wanted, load the save state and don’t use it :P
On a light note, wouldn’t it be fun to have 6 Yang Huai’s and Zhuge Liang in your party? It’d make for an interesting few battles to say the least ;)
Out of all the generals you can use the Zheng Letter to get, here are my top 5 most useful (not counting Tiger Generals)
1. Lu Bu (3800, 255/50) – COMBAT GOD!
2. Yang Huai (5200, 175/105) – You get a lot of him, but he’s useful as fodder for other armies :)
3. Zhou Yu (1550, 185/240) – Need a good general to use tactics with? Zhou Yu is here!
4. Lu Meng (1400, 180/225) – See above.
5. Bao Long (2900, 125/90) – Meh. At least he’s better than Jin Xuan :P

They see me throwin' fireballs out of my sword, they runnin'.May 12, 2006 at 6:24 am #19712Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYeah I hear ya about the save state stuff. I’ve been using all 10 slots for this thing on FCE Ultra because sometimes I’ll get myself stuck in parts. It’s weird, sometimes when I get a Yang Huai or Outlaw Force it locks the storyline and certain things (the Lou Feng Po rocks wouldn’t move, the boat wouldnt’ be there, certain people wouldn’t be where they are supposed to, etc) prevent continuation.
I think it varies depending on your party structure. One thing I’ve noticed is that if someone is actually sitting on the throne, that you can talk to them immediately afterwards (a la the Zhang Lu/Xiahou Dun recruiting style) and they’ll get off the throne. Obviously you were trying this with Sun Quan. I don’t know, I think you can get more characters probably, just need to keep experimenting with the save states like Zhang Lu says.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMay 12, 2006 at 6:27 am #19713Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterI agree with your list too. I got a ton of use out of Lu Bu. That intelligence burned me on occassion but the strength combined with the soldiers was pretty dominant for a while.
I used Zhou Yu a bit until his soldier-level became obsolete. Xiahou Dun was easily the second-most useful character for me, I used him all the way into Wei with his high strength/soldiers and mediocre intelligence level.
That’s about it though, I didn’t use Yang Huai, Zhang Zhao, Lu Meng or any of the other jobbers much.

AUGH, and now I can’t get Xiahou Dun either. Damn it to hell!

They see me throwin' fireballs out of my sword, they runnin'.May 12, 2006 at 6:52 am #19715Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYeah I can’t get Pang Tong at Nan Jun.
I hope there is an exact science to this. It seems like we’re both just getting random generals though. :P
So you’ve just been using it on the throne right? And it just says that Yuan Shao quote every time? I know for a fact though that recruiting Xiahou Dun was not with the Zheng Letter but after using the Zheng Letter I talked to Liu Bei and he joined as Xiahou. This was before I had to get the Shu Map. Also does it matter if you have 5, 6, or 7 characters? I haven’t noticed much difference although I think I was prevented from getting a few characters when I had 7 but maybe that’s just me being paranoid.
Actually I just got Huang Zhong and Bao Long at Nan Jun castle.

My head is spinning from all this confusion. I need some Jiu ;)

They see me throwin' fireballs out of my sword, they runnin'.May 12, 2006 at 7:02 am #19717Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterThis trick is driving my mind nuts.
Maybe if we have a full inventory when we talked to Sima Hui we’ll be able to drop an item and do that same trick so we can duplicate the Jiu. Then we can just hang out and relax with the Jiu-swilling souse all day instead of hunting all these random generals since they’re all either Outlaw Forces, Yang Huai or Bao Long anyway. :D
Okay I just figured something out actually. So I was in Wu Ling using the Zheng Letter at the throne but no one would join afterwards. I had 5 party members. I dropped two of them off and returned with 3 party members and get Jin Xuan. So party-size matters evidently.

(I?ll probably be playing with it after I reach the Super Rebels in DoaE 1).
May 12, 2006 at 6:33 pm #19719Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterHahaha, there has to be some rhyme or reason to it. Zhang Lu, I’m just going to go through and compare our lists. By the way, you can get Lu Bu clones at Gui Yang and Xiahou Dun clones at Xin Ye. I got 5 each but was only allowed to put 4 Lu Bu’s in at once (although this will change when I skip Zhang Bao).
Who did you get at Xin Ye before you went to get the Shu Map? Err actually I think it might have been when you get the Jiu and you’re supposed to go to Xiang Yang. Just keep checking Xin Ye and when you use the Zheng Letter you’ll get Ma Su and immediately after talk to Liu Bei and you’ll get Xiahou. You can do this over and over again, but go with a smaller party if it doesn’t work initially for you. I noticed if I have only three I almost always get someone at the throne. You won’t lose Zheng Letter’s and you’ll have 5 Xiahou Dun’s. Of course you could just go to Gui Yang and get 5 Lu Bu’s also.

May 12, 2006 at 7:08 pm #19721Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterIf you get Lu Bu at Gui Yang you’ll be treated to this when you’re supposed to "deal with Lu Bu" even though he’s on your side already.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMay 12, 2006 at 8:38 pm #19722Zhang LuParticipantI may try the 5 Lu Bu’s trick ;)
Though I’d prefer only 4 and Zhuge Liang so that I can use tactics somewhat competently :P
Would have been cool to get Sun Quan and Cao Cao. What stats do you think they woulda’ given Sun Quan? Maybe this?
Sun Quan – Army(3000) Str(185) Int(220) Agi(140) Weapon(Sword)
What do you think?
