Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterIt’s here. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten so many goodies before.

Has anyone played any of these? This one sounds like it’s a bit different from the past ones anyway, basically a strategy game but more real time than the previous versions.

ParticipantHmm, was that game done by Red? I remember Thousand Arms came with a bunch of shit like that too.
You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby

KeymasterDone by red? I dunno, Atlus made it. It’s a limited edition so I guess that’s why they wanted to have lots of treats in there.

ParticipantAh, I remember Red did Thousand Arms and it came with a lot of shit like that, but it was still published my ATLUS. Still, it’s fancy.

ParticipantI didn’t even know this was out until yesterday, so I’m going to try to get it tomorrow. I played Growlanser Generations or whatever, the one on PS2 that included 2 and 3, and it was pretty good! 2 especially. 3 felt a bit lackluster compared to 2, what with the annoying dungeons and such, but it was still a pretty solid game. Definitely going to pick this up (if I can find it anyways).
edit: WHAT
Okay so I looked up a youtube video to see what was so different about it and it looks like FINAL FANTASY 12 REDUXXX. Like, it looks EXACTLY THE SAME, save for the fact that the camera is zoomed way out. Please tell me it does not actually play like Final Fantasy 12.
I mean I am willing to put up with some change and who knows it could be FUCKING AWESOME A++ WOULD PLAY 20 TIMES but then again FINAL FANTASY 12!!
also I guess if you don’t hate Final Fantasy 12 than this could be a good step but I hated it so I will go be =”( over here

KeymasterIt’s been good so far, though I’m still getting a hang of the controls and the Skill Plate system. I know nothing of the series to be honest…
To a certain extent, it plays like FF12. There are no gambits but you are constantly giving your AI orders (or you just set them to auto).
However so far it’s more strategic as opposed to just killing enemies…like go up to and rescue 5 villagers while defending against a monster to give the villagers time to flee into the castle…and then you have to retreat into the castle and time an attack on a switch that kills the enemy. This was actually hard to pull off because I had control issues at first and I lost a citizen doing it.
Another cave I just went through, you have to have two of your characters move and guard on switches while your character goes and defeats a minor boss by himself.
Also, while I don’t hate FF12, I don’t really like it that much. However the Zodiac International Job System version of XII sounds a lot better with fixed license boards instead of characters that can be anything and everything. Honestly that structure would make the game for me and shoot the replay value up a lot. Of course it’s not coming to the USA anyway.

ParticipantWell, I guess I can’t really say I hated FF12, since I never got too far. It started out fairly good, but after a while I would much rather have just been mashing X just to remind me I’m actually still playing a game. I quit after I got out of that mimic-light-suckers cave.
Anyways, back on the topic of Growlanser, I’m glad to hear it actually involves strategy and like, actual gameplay (lol ff12 jabs). I saw the skill plate system in the video I watched, and it looked pretty confusing! Then again, the video was in Japanese.
I think I just freaked because I really didn’t want them to simultaneously rip off FF12 and make this one the FF12 of the series. I guess at the very least I should try to rent it (or leech off Max if he bought it) before making further judgements based on video in moon language.
Anyways, let me know how it is when you get farther. I’m actually kind of more interested in hearing things now that I know how different it is.
And hey, if anyone has a blank dvd, a modded PS2, and a frothing demand for Growlanser 2 or 3 I could make some isos. (I am assuming I can talk about this due to the fact there’s a download section with ROMs and such!)

ParticipantNot sure on what authority you couldn’t, I pretty sure ISOs are as illegal as ROMs are so it’s not much different either way. That said, those ROMs are mostly for games never released here and maybe half aren’t even in English, so I don’t know if it’d be the same if you put up ISOs for a PS2 game.
As far as Growlanser, I haven’t actually played this series but I’m willing to give it a shot if I get a chance to.

KeymasterI’m sitting on multiple copies of this game so I can rake in the dough a few years from now :) Love to help you out and send you a copy but the shrink rap isn’t coming off of them. As for my copy though maybe I can send that to you when I’m done. Because really, if you didn’t pre order this game you’re probably not gonna find it, and I doubt a video game rental store would happen to have one.

ParticipantI will have to take you up on your offer then, although it might be a while.

KeymasterYea I’ve been playing much Wild ARMs 5 lately. Probably will switch it up later today after I get up and play Growlanser. I’d like to finish up Seldous’ quest so I can stop hearing about how he wants to stop the war. I have a pretty good idea what I’m doing except for the plate system but I haven’t progressed enough to see much of it

KeymasterWow the scene where Seldous proposes to Vanette is just hilarious and this photo doesn’t do it justice.
