ParticipantSince nobody did it yet, I’ve decided to show some tactics I found out between playing DOAE3 GENS and editing TNDOAE (By the way, I finally started Nan Zhong for real!) Here is the first tactic to win easily: A pincer attack!

Note where my commander, Cao Cao, is, because he’ll stay there for the whole battle. Start out the battle by moving your units like this:

Dosn’t look like a pince yet, but wait till next turn to change the formation of your units like this:

Now, just advance carefully, making sure you’re not ambushed, and remember always to try and stay at least 3 squares! And I mean it, or the enemy might break the pincer!

Note that Cao Cao, my commander, is still at the same place!

See? Now, the units should be aproximately 3 squares from the city walls. (By the way, I forgot to mention that you should make sure you have some wall burners)

Just approach your units, now. If everything went accordingly, you won’t be ambusher by an enemy unit! Wait before attacking thoses walls, though, do this before:

Change your cavalry’s into infantry’s, that way they’ll be much more protected if they ever get attacked! Now, you can just ask your walls burners to do the job, if not, just arrow them with every unit once, like here:

(In this case, Sima Yi)

Whoever he is, he dosn’t have wall burn, so just arrow them down!

After just one turn against the walls, you should have destroyed at least one side, if not, then their wall were pretty developped then.

Now, just continue the same tactic until both walls (The middle part only, except if you want every uits against the enemy commander) have fallen.

Then, use a strong officer (in that case, Cao Pi) to finish off the commander.

A WINNER IS YOU!
Coming up next: The back attack tactic.

ParticipantAlready back with that Back attack tactic. Very simple in fact, but takes more time to carry out than the pincer, but might be more effective depending on your characters and units.

Again, I shall demonstrate with Cao Cao as Commander.

Why am I showing a pic of Sima Yi? Because he is the one who will begin that back attack!

Make the one you want to begin that back attack take all your action points, don’t worry about them, then make everyone else, except the commander advance in that same direction.

After two more turns, the one preparing the plot should be 3 squares away from the back of the castle, again, this is important.
What should you do next depend on your team, check before the battle if anyone else can burn walls, if yes, look at the next images, if not, carry out the ploy and destroy the enemy (Dont forget to make the plotting person an infantry unit). If there are more that 1 wall burners, read on.

If you have more than one wall burner, make sure they don’t get ambushed, and get them near the main plotter, change them into infantry. As for the others, place them in an arrow formation in front of the castle, this should lure out the enemy.

With that luring in process, you should now think of making your wall burners behind the castle, which will startle the enemy, and since every enemy units (except the commander) are at the front lines, this should be easy. We shall now see what happens.

(You might lose a unit in the process, don’t worry, with luck, he won’t get killed)

(In the process, you might defeat many enemy generals)

At this point, it is okay to advance your commander, just make sure he’s well protected.

"Well, shall we shart burning them, then?", could’ve said Sima Yi.

"HAHA! Burn them down to the ground!!!" ~Sima Yi

"Now is the perfect opportunity for a surprise attack!" ~Unknown Officer

At the end of that turn, your formation should be like this.

If the enemy is as stipid as he was for me, he’ll attack you and…

You’ll win! AH, ULTIMATE HAPINESS!
I might try to find some other tactics, but for now I’ll return to editing TNDOAE. Hope theses tactics help people defeat hard leaders like Liu Bei with Yuan Shu.

Keymastergood stuff perhong.
whats the point of keeping a beast like cao cao at his starting point though? does the enemy not move if your commander stays in the same spot or something?

ParticipantHaha, that’s a tactic too, you leave your commander behind, and the enemy units will always try to advance on him, so if you leave him behind, they’ll not be able to get to him, because the get as infantry units of scout units almost at the beginning of the fight.. The other reason why he’s behind, it’s because you never know what type of bad luck you might get: Defeated by a wall, by enemys who just group on the commander (might even be more dangerous when you fight people with strong officers, eg. Liu Bei), and anything else you might think of. You do NOT have to leave your commander behind, this is your choise, but I do prefer leaving him behind.
