Shit, that stuff is easy man. Not like people aren't going to be able to figure out how to edit hex code at certain spots. Just a little more time consuming that way than having an editor.
But figuring out how to deal with feidian and php has a much steeper learning curve if you aren't familiar with it.

Would be bigger and better than sliced bread :)
November 2, 2011 at 12:52 am #40695Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterGot it to be responsive. Thank goodness for Junsuijin. Stupid Windows 7 permission issues.
Anyway, so the portraits are loaded and I find them. However, they look horrible in white. Did I upload the wrong strips?
The portraits look pretty good with Rust Orange actually, but not sure if I want all the new doae 2 portraits to have rust orange background lol.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingNovember 2, 2011 at 2:04 am #40696sonic.penguinModeratorSkin Color = GREEN
Skin Shadows = Blue
Dark Shadows = Black
Everything else that will change with portrait color = White
This is the hardest thing with portraits, keep in mind that DOAE2 colors are swapped aka reversed from DOAE. So you will need to make your green -> blue and your blue -> green. I believe you can do this in Irfanview.
November 2, 2011 at 2:06 am #40697Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterWhere do I change that? In the hex? Or with the portraits before I upload them (ie I used the wrong strips…)

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingNovember 2, 2011 at 2:07 am #40698sonic.penguinModeratorChange the colors in paint or photoshop or use Irfanview which has a color swap feature, which I never really got used to. This has to be done BEFORE you upload it to the rom
November 2, 2011 at 2:15 am #40699Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterHmm. Thing is, I'm using MiDKnighT's php folder with the portrait strips. I kind of assumed they were already converted properly? But there are multiples of each strip so maybe I just uploaded the wrong ones.
This was one of them. Thought these were the right colors… huohu

Can you tell me what does Win 7 permission have anything to do with the feidian and how to solve it? Maybe I might resolve the portrait trick again.
DoaE gave birth to Huo Hu.
November 2, 2011 at 11:17 am #40701sonic.penguinModeratorThen they should be fine, they look like they're in the proper format. Not sure what its doing now ehehe. Im having my own issue with portraits mainly that Im getting a specific stat page ie: Lu Su, to lock up if I open it in game once the portrait code is enabled. It appears we are having the same issues LYS now that I read your other post hehe. Interesting bug we've found.
I have found if you input 1 wrong value it can freeze battles or even change EVERYONEs portrait off by 1 slice, but this is not the issue. All correct and new portraits work, but specific officers seem to glitch-freeze the game.
EDIT: fixed! had to 0 out officers in Niahaks editor, thanks for the help guys :)
November 2, 2011 at 11:32 am #40702MiDKnighTModeratorYes I have good strips in my folder. Use the ones in the portraits.zip file.
November 2, 2011 at 2:35 pm #40703Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterthere is a portraits.zip and portraits_1.zip. Use the one without the _1 then?

November 2, 2011 at 6:05 pm #40705Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterWell upon downloading that Php folder there was a portraits.zip and portraits_1.zip, but either way I just got portraits.zip.
D21, d22 and d23 are in the portraits zip file but look messed up when you choose white background in DoaEd (but I don't even mind because I do Rust Orange or Gray and they look fine). I think the Yuan.bmp files are the good ones, I did Yuan_F1.bmp and both the DoaE II and DoaE III portraits looked great even with a white background.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingJanuary 10, 2012 at 3:12 pm #40706MeteorStrikeParticipantLOL I love it how Lord Yuan Shu, the site admin, curses on posts, and the users ask him to tone down the language. It's like the Bizzarro world of message boards. XD
Actually, reading this made me wonder of a super-easy solution that can be implemented in DoaEd, but I doubt Niahak would want to do it. Picture this:
An option in DoaEd that asks for the following input from the user:
Input / Output ROM File to Edit: Full file path.
Input ROM File to get data from: Full file path.
Start address for Input file 1.
Start address for Input file 2.
Number of bytes.
After that, the tool would read Number of bytes starting from Start address of Input file 2, and copy them into Input file 1 starting from start address of Input file 1.
So what would this accomplish and how would it work? Well, in NES games, the graphics ( Patterns ) are stored sequentially, and always in the same format ( except when compressed, but that's rarely. ) So if you know the start address of a General's Patterns from 1 ROM and from the other, you can ask the tool to rip those bytes from the other ROM and dump them on the first ROM.
This would essentially "replace" the entire image of a General's portrait in one single move. Since all the patterns of any 1 General's portrait are ( usually ) stored sequentially, this would work.
For any "special cases" you can always provide the input parameters of just a single Pattern at a time, instead of a whole group of them. In other words, since this tool feature is nothing more than a byte-wise copy-paste of data from source to destination, it would work for -anything- you wanted to copy-paste, as long as you know -what- you wanted to copy-paste.
Additionally, the tool can go 1 step further and support batch commands. For example, another input parameter would be a text file that specifies the start addresses of sizes of various chunks to copy-paste from, and then the tool would do all those copy-paste sections.
After doing this copy-paste, you really only need to fix up any Palette issues that may arise. Not sure how messy -that- could get though, but a copy-paste feature like this one on DoaEd might still be useful in other ways, particularly for experimenting too.
So basically, this wouldn't be an all-out image editor, but would still have its usefulness and it can theoretically be used to copy-paste any chunk of binary data from 1 ROM into another. It would also be very easy to implement in DoaeEd.
January 10, 2012 at 8:27 pm #40707sonic.penguinModeratorPfff.. that would all be so easy to do, Niahak was probably so insulted by the ease that he just hasnt done it yet… or maybe not :cactuar:
Actually I think it is mainly just a matter of getting the very important things done ie: warps displaying on maps and the ability to move battles via the UI has been a HUGE step in easing the editing process since it is something done usually more than once, unlike portraits in most cases… unless you're working on the Rise of Ieyasu mod that is…
