Yea I meant from 1 to 2.
As for 2 to 3, I think Vikki and Futch are the only two. Besides those extra scripts you find, and McDohl
Don’t forget Luc!
SPOILER
He’s the final boss in Suiko 3!
SPOILER!

September 27, 2007 at 11:28 pm #24726Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterOkay so you’re saying if you build Luc up to a high level (like most people probably do in 2) and load your data, he’s harder throughout the game because his level is higher? Or is his level raised for the final optional chapter where you can control him? I’m more inclined to believe the latter but I don’t know, I figured it didn’t affect Luc at all to be honest.

Actually, he’s the only exception, the other rule dosn’t apply to him, even in the optional chapter.

September 27, 2007 at 11:43 pm #24728Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterI figured. Luc is well done in that game, I really like that optional chapter and the Trinity Sight System or whatever.

You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby
October 4, 2007 at 5:58 pm #24730Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterThey’re nice in that Suiko 1 can be completed in like 12-17 hours and Suikoden 2 is about 25-30.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingOctober 4, 2007 at 8:27 pm #24731ATLUSParticipantthe Trinity Sight System was nice, even if the game was sort of sux compared to 2. the Luc chapter was ballin’ also.
I hate how you had to wait until you could play as that one LEVELS 1 jackass (whatever his name was) before you can get the castle
or am I making this up and it never happened? it’s been too long!
October 4, 2007 at 8:38 pm #24732Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYep I think you get to the castle in Hugo 2, Chris 2 and Geddoe 1. The first time through I think I did Geddoe 1 last so I didn’t get the castle for a while also.
It’s Thomas at Budehuc castle FLEXX
Honestly, I loved those chapters. The war battles were fun, maxing those generic characters and killing the Zexens.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingOctober 4, 2007 at 8:42 pm #24733ATLUSParticipantI always played every chapter available in an order I determined before starting the game. I’ve always kind of wanted to go back and try playing the entire storyline for a single character first.
October 4, 2007 at 10:23 pm #24734NiahakModeratorI really enjoyed Thomas’ chapters. I just wish they hadn’t been so formulaic (run around looking and talking to people, go back to the castle and sleep. Event! run around looking and talking to people, go back to the castle and sleep. Event! …). I did win the war battle last time I played, though.
I tried the single-storyline-per-character on my last Suikomarathon (1-3, skipped 4 but played through 5). It’s pretty satisfying, but it left me feeling more than ever that Hugo is a chump, Chris is only somewhat better, and Geddoe is downright awesome.
I like all the supporting characters, but Hugo and Chris always seemed kinda lacking.
In my last playthrough, Suiko1 was 14 hours and Suiko2 was 18. I blitzed through S2’s storyline, though, to get the Clive quest. S2’s probably average 22ish for me if I sit back and enjoy the storyline.
S3, meanwhile, is around 40. That’s why I like S3 over S1. Deeper plot, cooler (if unnecessarily complex) battle system, and it’s more substantial time-wise as well.
I like S1’s plot and style, but it’s like an appetizer, S2 is soup and salad, and S3 is the main course. Now, S2 is a really good soup and salad… better quality than the main bit but there’s just not as much.
October 4, 2007 at 10:24 pm #24735Taishi CiParticipantYou don’t have to do Thomas’s chapters if you don’t want to. Just never play them, and the game will let you rename the castle early on in Chapter 4.
Thomas is teh FLEXX
October 4, 2007 at 10:44 pm #24736ATLUSParticipantI always hated how fucked they made Hugo. Like, HEY WE HAVE A MERCENARY GUY AND A CHICK IN ARMOR LETS GIVE THIS KID A KNIFE AND SOME CLOTH AND NOT LET HIM HAVE A TRUE RUNE UNTIL YOU GET THE FIRE ONE AND EVEN THEN IT IS MEANINGLESS TO THE STORY WHICH ONE HE HAS FLEXX
October 5, 2007 at 12:25 am #24737NiahakModeratorActually, I ran into a situation in one of my games (I think because I did all 3 of Hugo’s before any of Thomas’) where I couldn’t rename Budehuc in Thomas’ chapters.
I think I was able to in Chapter 4, but I don’t really remember.
I saw Hugo as most like the standard Suiko heroes… but still not as cool. He’s the standard JRPG hero (young and arrogant) although it is kind of different how he gets manic depressive in the beginning of the 2nd chapter.

Nowadays, I think Geddoe is infinitely cooler, but back when I first played this I really wanted Hugo to be ballin’ because he was JRPG HERO 101 and I preferred that to the others. He reminds me of McDohl and Hero the most of the 3 though.
Also, Geddoe seems a whole lot like Viktor. Viktor was very FLEXX.
October 5, 2007 at 2:24 am #24739Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterI also am one that thought Hugo would be the coolest at first look – that’s why I picked him first.. He just looked like he had potential and I liked Lucia and the Karayan’s in Suik II.
The thing about Suik III that just really bothers me is the area attacks attacking your own party (especially with the Fire Rune / True Fire Rune). That’s such a defect that it basically makes the spells worthless unless you want to bomb your own party.
Riou and Tir were the best imo. They were more humble than Hugo. But yea, Hugo was more in that mold.
