Hi guys, I’m back. And I’m still aware that I owe sonic some bug fixes (my apologies for all the delays). I was on a big vacation to Hawaii and Japan. And something for sonic… I got a pic in front of Osaka castle!
Osaka castle was really cool. Although the tower was rebuilt nearly 100 years ago, the walls and moats are mostly original. And inside the tower is a museum with all kinds of armor, exhibits, etc… on display.
Also went to Nijo castle in Kyoto. Not sure if you used that one in the Ieyasu mod. Then again, that one was more of a residential palace by Ieyasu and not a military castle.

Nice! I went to Japan last year, and Osaka castle was among the places we went was Osaka castle (we ended up going to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Kanazawa, and Hiroshima in total – saw Nijo, Osaka, Kanazawa and Hiroshima castles, though we didn’t go inside Nijo).Osaka castle was definitely the best for historic value. Himeji’s definitely the best castle if you want to see original structure, but it’s a bit of a trip to reach, so we didn’t go there this trip.
Where all did you end up going in Japan? It’s a great place to visit.

Mainly Tokyo and Kyoto. Osaka Castle was a day trip from Kyoto. Places visited:
Tokyo:
Tsukiji Fish Market
Tokyo Tower
Zojoji Temple
Meiji Shrine
Harajuku
Ninja Akasaka (restaurant)
Tokyo DisneySea (for the kids)
Tokyo Disneyland (for the kids)Kyoto:
Arashiyama
Bamboo forest
Golden Pavillion
Gion (saw 2 geisha)
Nijo Castle
Fushimi Inari Shrine
Osaka CastleJuly 17, 2014 at 4:25 pm #53612NiahakModeratorNice! Yeah, we also did a day trip from Kyoto for Osaka. It was pretty easy and we got to see the castle, the Osaka aquarium (they have a whale shark!) and also stopped by Den Den Town for a bit of game shopping for me :)
Those are some great places. How was the fish market? I haven’t been, but it seems to be a pretty popular destination.
Fushimi Inari in particular was really cool, but we gave up after about a mile in. We’d been to three other temples that day and were exhausted at that point. We had gotten really slap-happy and the torii were everywhere, so my GF and I were making terrible jokes (“there are so many, they must have been made in a fac-torii”). We only actually explored about a third of it. It did get us one of my favorite pictures of the trip:

It confirmed my suspicious that if it swims, the Japanese eat it. Wide variety of sealife there.
Also went to a good sushi place right by the fish market which they say is one of the best places in the world to get sushi. I’m not much of a sushi person but it was pretty d*** good. Melted in your mouth.
I e-mailed you a link to some pics of our trip to your gmail account :)
July 17, 2014 at 9:55 pm #53614sonic.penguinModeratorWow, sounds like an awesome trip. I’ve never been out of the continental US, except if you want to include Canada, but my wife has toured China quite a bit and it’s something I’m quite jealous about. We just returned today from our vacation, camping in PA. Dear lord do people drive fast out there! (must be the mountains…) I probably wouldn’t be a huge fan of Japanese dining if it’s fish considering I don’t each much seafood but fried clams and fishsticks :P I think if I went to Japan I’d want one of those “Wagyu” steaks for like $200+ :huohu:
Anyways, awesome picture of Osaka! Talk about an epic vacation! For a while I thought it might be a staycation, but I’m sure you brought us some souvenirs eh? I didn’t use Nijo in ROI, but I’d like to revisit that mod once those bugs get worked out to fix those pervasive issues in all the mods and update with the latest portraits. Niahak seems like he practically breathes Japanese and I’m sure with you guys’ technical skills it keeps you traveling to those places every now and then. I teach during the year so I don’t get time off to travel except during Summer months. Sounds like an awesome trip and I look forward to flexing some DOAE muscles again. FLEXX
July 18, 2014 at 8:42 am #53615MiDKnighTModeratorI actually had the wagyu beef at the #1 rated restaurant on TripAdvisor. It was amazing. Probably the best meal I’ve had in my life. Here’s the place we had it:
It was like a 7 course meal and every course was heaven on earth!
The bill was not bad all things considered. A little over $200 for 2 people.

Used to! I decided to stop keeping up with those skills earlier this year, when I realized I’d rather spend my decreasing free time playing games than editing / fan-translating them. My spoken skills are terrible now and only barely got us where we needed to go when we got lost a couple times. I’ve only actually been a few times, this time was more coincidental (GF was planning to go and invited me along).
Those are some pretty awesome pictures, MK! Glad you all had a good time :)
