If you go through Jing Zhou before the Yuan Shao/Ji Zhou battle, you can fight the 7003 soldier Lu Bu once you reach Shu territory. He’ll die, but when you go back to fight the Yuan Shao battle, Lu Bu will be back alive. Also I realized the Gemsword does nothing on him after the Yang Zhou battle.

April 27, 2006 at 10:55 pm #18759SamuelParticipantThe Lu Bu in Yang Zhou is the same for every Lu Bu, including Ji Zhou and Jing Zhou. Indeed, the Gemsword only works in Yang Zhou.
Lu Bu does not resurrect. Instead, you mess up the original order of the game. You have to conquer Yuan Shao in Ji Zhou before you head to Jing Zhou. In the Chinese PC version, I cannot reach Jing Zhou before I kill Yuan Shao. After we defeat all the four castles of Jing Zhou, recruit Pang Tong, and learn the thunder tactics (not sure whether it is in the NES version), we encounter Lu Bu (7003 soldiers) for the final time. We kill him and he will not reappear in the rest of the game.

The L? Bu in Ba-Shu is actually different from the L? Bu found elsewhere in the game. It wouldn?t be possible to know this if not for the variation in his intelligence. For the final battle Capcom has decided to give you a small edge in the battle?they reduced L? Bu?s intelligence to 40 from 72. This also helps to tell us that he occupies two entries in the game?s database. But yes, it can be confirmed that L? Bu does not join at any point beyond Yang Zhou.

I don’t think I noticed this the first time I read your post….You can’t go to Jing Zhou until you conquer Ji Zhou? Thunder tactics also aren’t around at this point either.

What sort of thunder tactics appear in the game? Is it a variation of the fire/water tactics in the English version? I think the only mention of thunder in the English version is when Sima Yi sends you home after he takes Cao Pi?s head.
Do you play with the cartridge, or a ROM? If a ROM, it would be fun to see if it is different from the Japanese version. :)
I wonder if they intentionally opened up Jingzhou in the English version, or if it was a bug side-effect of their translation/rewrite process? very interesting stuff though!
May 8, 2006 at 8:59 pm #18763SamuelParticipantI play a PC version. A Taiwanese company adapts DOAE from the Japanese NES version into the PC. Therefore, my version seems to have some features that the Japanese NES version does not have.
The thunder tactics that I encounter in the PC version are distinct from fire and water tactics. There are two thunder tactics in the Taiwanese PC version. But it seems to me that the original NES does not have it.
Lu Bu’s intelligence index may be different when we face him at Jing Zhou. But it is the same character.
September 4, 2009 at 5:31 pm #18764DragonAtmaModeratorOn a late note, there are four entries with the name "Lu Bu". They share a pictures and have similar stats, but aqside from that they have no more in common than Zhang Jiao's brotherand Zhang Fei's son.
September 5, 2009 at 4:46 pm #18765LinkParticipantYes, DoaEditor shows that there are separate Lu Bu's in each area.
September 7, 2009 at 2:53 am #18766Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYep.
The Lu Bu from Hu Lao / Luo Yang / Yang Zhou / Chang An (439 soldiers)
Then the Lu Bu from Yuan Shu's battle in Nan Yang (613 soldiers)
Then the Lu Bu in Yuan Shao's force (1449)
Finally, the last Lu Bu in Shu (7003 soldiers).
Of course, in the Yuan Shu Mod, there are about 6 versions of Lu Bu! Including the version that joins you and increases soldiers…
One interesting thing is Lu Bu's intelligence actually goes down as you fight him in the regular Destiny of an Emperor – I think the last version of Lu Bu has like 40 INT whereas the others are around 70.
