Any way that we can mass delete a large number of spam posts via a hold shift and select or a checkbox? Deleting each spam post one by one is a major pain in the behind. Top topics @ the bottom of the forum page are Oakley sunglasses >_>
September 8, 2013 at 10:56 pm #45886Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYou mean the tags, right?
I saw all those spam tags at the bottom of the front page. That took me to a page that allowed me to "Destroy Tag" so I had to do that to about 40 tags to get it cleared out. Should all be good ones now. Like SpdShoes.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingSeptember 9, 2013 at 12:36 am #45887sonic.penguinModeratorYes the tags, but what I meant was on some forum pages that got spam-jacked.
At any rate, LYS, I never got to see your annotated, picture walkthrough of Flames of Wu?
September 14, 2013 at 8:21 am #45889DragonAtmaModeratorWe keep getting spam posts; something really should be done about it, like requiring mod approval for new poster signups (and, of course, notifying mods if they check in and someone new hasn't been approved/denied yet).
September 14, 2013 at 1:33 pm #45890sonic.penguinModeratorDoesn't RHDN do something like that for uploading files? I believe so…
September 14, 2013 at 1:51 pm #45891sonic.penguinModeratorI'm thinking of something in the lines of checkboxes so you can click 10 posts then just click "delete" at the end. Like an email folder
September 14, 2013 at 4:38 pm #45892MiDKnighTModeratorThis is something LYS would have to do if it's even possible.
Best option would be to upgrade the board I think. I would chip in money for that…seriously…
September 14, 2013 at 4:50 pm #45893MiDKnighTModeratorI dropped LYS a facebook message and asked him if I can pay to upgrade the board. The spam bots annoy me that much…
September 14, 2013 at 5:50 pm #45894Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterHaha…you hate it that much eh?
I've been around the last few weeks deleting spam and particularly those stupid spam tags that again came back after I destroyed them three days ago.
The issue wouldn't be money, but ensuring the content on here is migrated properly. When we did it from phpbb3 to bbpress it got all jumbled and I spent days fixing it. If we just upgrade bbPress, it should be okay. But the new bbPress is a bit different, from what I know. It's more a part of the main site instead of as segregated as it is now. I'm not 100% sure since I haven't seen it in action. But yea, we can get moving on that. I'll do some reading up and see what the hook will be. We'll also lose the plug-ins this forum has, though most of those plugins didn't work anyway.
In the mean time, as far as the tags are concerned, try to use plenty of relevant tags in threads you create, so we can build those numbers up and make it harder for the spam ones to break through on the bottom of the main forum page. I went through the Suikoden forum and did this quick, I will try to do it to others too.

I get all kinds of tags for superdry and crap like that popping up all over the tops of the threads…
When you talk about "migrating" the threads are you saying that formatting will be messed up or just links? There are really only a few threads that are maintained daily and I'm sure that 5 year old threads that no one has read will probably not have as many concerned readers.

Go around in a few days and you'll see some of the popular posts here have those spam tags in them. Anyone can add a tag anywhere. Pretty sure that is not the system in the updated bbPress.
Quote:When you talk about "migrating" the threads are you saying that formatting will be messed up or just links?Formatting, yes, and include links in with that. I know we lost a TON of Xian Zhu Xuande's posts because he had all kinds of phpbb formatting that didn't translate well to this forum. And as much as I would have loved to go in the database and correct each post, that wasn't feasible so looking back on a lot of his old posts you'll see his posts shortened big time (or blank).
Again with it just updating bbPress, I don't think that will be an issue this time, but just something worth considering before the move.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingSeptember 14, 2013 at 11:48 pm #45897DragonAtmaModeratorBuilding up the number of valid tags will do nothing about the number of spambot posts. If the approval method is done properly, then vetoing a spam user is no more effort than deleting a spam post — and there are spambosts with DOZENS of spamposts.
tianbxfi has 23 posts.
Kolenyqx has 22.
dianbllb has 13.
Kolejxpx has 22.
timrwghc has 14.
Koleywkv has 28.
Koleaiqp has 29.
coolsuau has 23.
jakebrdh has 19.
tiantszz has 15.
And those post counts are from ONE PAGE — specifically, page 20 of "untitled rotk2 remake".
LYS, you really need to talk to bbpress about the impending spamageddon — and if that doesn't work, you need to move the site to another message board service before more posts are spam than not!
September 15, 2013 at 3:59 am #45898Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYea, as I go to clean this up, I realize the problem I always have. The back-end is just slow. Part of that is the massive DB's on LYS which have built up since 2005. It is also configured poorly so I get lots of Internal Server Errors when I really shouldn't. Which would be nice to fix, the host can't seem to though. Anyway… I found a WordPress plugin named Bulk Delete. In theory, it's supposed to delete users, posts, etc based on certain criteria. But then when you have 61,000 users like we do, it just times out after 5 minutes when I try to delete every 0-post user. I'd probably have to go into the database to do it.
We are going to update WordPress (main site) to 3.6 and then attempt setting up the new bbPress version (2.4). Hopefully the import goes well. The user list was already the same between the two. There are numerous plugins, hopefully something to keep the bad people out.

September 15, 2013 at 5:15 pm #45900DragonAtmaModeratorDon't worry — I'm sure LYS will download a copy of the entire forum to his hard drive as a backup before risking the mass deleter.
