Hehe, no worries!
The subject was particularly interesting to me because it confused the hell out of me when I was a kid.
When I was a kid, I never even noticed that I would get different TP those were the good days, I didn’t even know what was going on.

My first time playing through I got stuck trying to recruit Zhuge Liang. It was something really stupid?I probably couldn?t figure out that I had to wait, or something equally unusual. I just remember I wasn?t sure what to do next. So whenever I got frustrated, I wandered around and saved up levels. By the time I finally figured out, I already had tactics like An Sha.
I still remember being attacked by Lu Bu, being impressed, and promptly using An Sha.
By the time that game ended, my MTP was something like 97.
Trust me, a total that low sucked. Sima Yi was a challenge.
(And again, without GameFAQs and whatnot, you don?t find out about running from him.)
My second time through I wound up with something like 138. Very good!
My third time, something like 117. That?s when I first started to wonder.
I got stuck at Zhuge too, but I had nintendo power to help me with that.
My problem was with Dan Fu/Xu Shu(Zhe), After is got get him from the cave and kept thinking my game had a glitch because I was looking for Xu Zhe and couldn’t find him by billeting or my party, I was stuck there for a long time, one of my least proud moments.
I actually can’t remember ever not having at least 120 TP at Sima Yi and you are right, 97 would almost be impossible to beat him with.
