I never got any college for game design but im sure i could of offered tons of ideas to help someone design a mod
February 24, 2013 at 10:13 pm #45353sonic.penguinModeratorQuote:Wow those are amazing i could never hope to do that kind of work. I have tons of ideas for games but lack the knowledge to design them lolWell as you can see they started out pretty crappy.
I use ROTK game series portraits for inspiration and try and base my portraits off of those along with some artistic flare. They're by no means perfect, but the NES only gives you so many colors and pixels to work with.
Other than Flames of Wu, current mods being worked on around here are:
Gongsun Zan Mod by MiDKnighT
Jin Xuan Conquerer of Worlds by DragonAtma
Lordyuanshu and MiDKnighT might also be revamping/editing their other mods as well. Try hitting them up for an idea or two. DragonAtma is the resident artist around here so he could help you out as well with GFX related edits.
Practice makes perfect. Don't expect to crank out mods like these in a few days or even weeks. It'll take a few months unless you mod hour every day for weeks (like I did on Rise of Lu Bu) which is how I was able to crank out Rise of Ieyasu, which is much more detailed, in about the same time as Rise of Lu Bu which isn't quite as detailed.

Lu bu
February 25, 2013 at 3:13 am #45355sonic.penguinModeratorNope, about the same time. I just had more experience when I made Rise of Ieyasu and most of the time was spent editing portraits. I broke the times down on a thread in the Rise of Ieyasu post

February 25, 2013 at 10:46 pm #45357sonic.penguinModeratorI'm planning on it. The tough part is making 1 section of the map set aside for it though and having it integrate into the regular story line.

February 26, 2013 at 4:39 pm #45361MiDKnighTModeratorMost of what you need to know should be in the ROM hacking guide. I look forward to seeing what you come up with! There's always room for more great DoaE mods!

Like anything else, there is only so much you can learn from talking to us, it'll come from reading the Hacking Guide and then practicing some of the concepts one at a time, so you aren't overwhelmed.

Make LOTS of backup copies like 1.01, 1.02, 1.03 etc as you experiment because you will unevitabely make a typo somewhere or delete something which you will never discover and your mod will be ruined.
