You may have noticed the Soldiers thing next to our names when we post. It is a points system plugin for the forum, but of course I set it up for Soldiers.
Each time you do things on the forum, you gain a small amount of soldiers. Posting topics earns you a fair amount, as does replying. What earns you the most if having someone favorite your topic. So it is all done to encourage people to be active and contribute useful content :)
Oh, and also something funny, I set up paypal so if people want to get in a pissing match over soldiers they can throw their wallets at each other! It is also a way if you just want to download to lordyuanshu.com for the site’s awesomeness or just to help with hosting, you can do so huohu
So let me know what you think. There are also other settings with this, I will check them out.

…my suggestion? Start everyone with 100 (or 314!) soldiers, and do something like this:
You report spam, action is taken: +5
Someone else favorites your topic: +5
Someone else replies to your post: +2
Someone else replies in your topic, they haven’t posted there before: +5
Someone else replies in your topic, they posted there before: +1
You post in someone else’s topic: -1
Someone unfavorites your topic: -5
Start new topic: -5
You report spam, but no action is taken: -10
Your post is deleted by mods: -25
You are tempbanned: -100
You are permabanned: -500
You are a spambot: -65535So you suggest making soldier gains a lot more restrictive :). Could put it on the replies too. Probably a good idea though in an effort to encourage good content.
I haven’t used a forum like this so it’s hard to know where to start. However I think a lot of what you have as options aren’t in the plugin (or at least the basic form of it).

That one is quite favorable for you.
Actually most of the Soldiers can be acquired by doing different things on the main site. Contributing posts, content, watching videos, clicking links, commenting.

And, of course, feel free to edit the numbers to whatever you feel is appropriate.
Remember, 1291 replies at 28 soldiers each is an army of 36,148 soldiers. The world’s not about to end, so we shouldn’t have final boss-ish soldier amounts! XD
Good point. Yea I need to tone it down either way, was planning on it. In the meantime, the regulars can use this time to build their soldier totals! They are subject to change it the forum will be more stringent on them in the future, as we figure out the best way to distribute them.

In the past we’d have people who would post wacky stuff constantly. Like what DragonAtma said, if we make it cost 5 soldiers to make a new topic it encourages people to make it a good one that people reply to and/or favorite. Maybe we could make it so if users get below 0 soldiers they can’t make a post :)

I second the gray-on-white thing. Hard to read. Can we change the gray to black?
I’m also noticing that I get automatically logged out when I click on some threads in the DoaE forum. Any idea why? I think it’s a conspiracy to keep my soldiers down :P
LYS how do we do the paypal thing? I’ll throw some $$$ in if it improves message board performance. It’s still pretty slow.
You guys like the new color scheme a little more?

As for the Paypal thing, I think I have a lordyuanshu at gmail account there. But as I said in the other thread, just wait a bit until, still finding the best way to go about this. Might hop onto a client’s reseller account here soon.
