KeymasterJust saw this is being released sometime in 08 for the PS2. There is some text based Phantasy Star released with it…but getting all of that for 20 bucks is pretty nice. Even if I’d only really get into Phantasy Star III and IV. Unfortunately it probably won’t make it to the US.

Participanti remember 1 was mind blowing. i don’t think sega had anything better in that system besides it. i’d shell out the cash for the rest.
are 2 and 3 just as good?

KeymasterOh wow you’ve played 1? On the original Sega (Master System, right?)
3 and 4 are good, they’re more modern and similar to the Final Fantasy’s of that time (like Final Fantasy IV-VI). I’m a really big fan of Phantasy Star IV, it’s probably the largest and best RPG on Genesis and one of my all time faves.

KeymasterYep. One was for the Master System and then 2-4 were Genesis if I recall.

ParticipantYour would be correct, there all great, I like one alot, however, i couldn’t really enjoy 2 as much as the others.
Genesis had a couple good rpgs, there was
PS4, the shining forces, warsong/langrisser, shadowrun, and some I might not be thinging of right now. What killed sega was the franchise monsters that SNES had, with final fantasy and dragon quest/warrior.

KeymasterSega was definitely the dark horse with no Square or Enix in it’s pocket. Still though Phantasy Star IV is right up there with the top SNES FF’s imo. It would have been even more crazy had the Dragon Quests been released here, still not sure why they didn’t make it (though I know their reception here is not at all like the insanity for it in Japan).

ParticipantI like sega, but you’re right, the reception in america wasn’t all that good, and I can imagine that injapan they were second string still. It would all have been different if enix put dragon quest on sega, the world as we know would be completly changed.
