The-Scholars gets spammers all the time and they didn't switch to other software, why did you? How much spammers came here to spam, why did you have to block most of China? I don't get it, was the spammers taking over the forum so that's why you switched? I hope you switch to a better forum, maybe Invision? Cause it's hard to use this when you can't see who's signed up and all, can't really customize good.. all you can do is post and make topics…I mean this theme is better than the old one but I'd perfer if you tell me a exact date you plan on switching the software? Also I would love to hear your reasons, please and thanks!! :)
I think the biggest problem is that the capcha isn't stopping the spambots. If the capcha worked we wouldn't have to block most of China, etc…

This is a security question not capcha, capcha is random characters you have to fill in to bypass the registration menu
Thing is Korin, remember that all the data on the forum takes a long ass time to convert to different software, and then testing that to make sure nothing is broken (and fixing everything that is broken). Not saying I'll never do it, just saying it's not a priority. I love this forum but it's not like we're getting hundreds of active users each day. No ads on here at all so it's not like I'm making money from it. Invision…I don't really like. vBulletin is what we have experience using on other websites so that's what we'd probably install.
As for why we switched…everyone's situation is different. Lordyuanshu.com has had WordPress for 5-6 years so it made sense to use their forum software when it became viable. The-scholar's doesn't use WordPress so it made less sense for them, and moreover I don't make decisions based on other sites/people – I analyze our situation separately. Did it work out perfectly? Probably not. But we have kept up some cool data online for 7 years via this forum so there is some positives I think. If anything the last few years on bbPress the best work has been done on this forum with all the Destiny of an Emperor Hacking info.
Setting up a proper capcha could help. One potential issue is that our main site + forum have the same users, so it could be people signing up via the WordPress main site as a ways of getting in as well.
