ParticipantROM Hacking: Changing Level-up Progression
With this tool you can alter the level-up progression used in the Destiny of an Emperor ROM without having to deal with the math and time involved in keeping things linear and working (i.e. you can do it without tearing your hair out).

The interface for the tool is a set of three filters. A low filter, a mid filter, and a high filter. The high filter increases the experience requirements for higher levels and the mid level filter focuses on the middle levels (with the general idea of pushing important tactics like An Sha and Ji Mian back to an area of the game where they are less detrimental to balance). The low filter is a bit different: it definitely has the implied affect, but unlike the other filters it has a scalar affect on all levels, thus making it the best value to adjust for increased difficulty.
I didn’t build it in to the interface but the tool does support higher values. After you submit the form just adjust the data in the URL (I set it up this way for just this reason). You could, for example, triple the experience required for the highest tiers of levels thus bringing their requirements well above 999,999. The tool will alter the level 51 value to just above the level 50 requirement thus, hopefully, avoiding any nasty bugs in that area. It isn’t tested so it is a hidden feature of sorts for the time being.

I thought about just posting this to the hacking notes thread but I figure this might be a better way to do things. It is more likely to be displayed properly on search engines and thus is more likely to fetch people into the forum. It will also be more likely to be found when needed. (That’s right, if you came here from a search engine get to it, hack, and spam the Huo Hu forum with us).
This was a no-brainer tool for me to make. It took me about as long to make the tool as it would for me to mess around with experience requirements in both ROMs (and if I did it manually it would be a huge pain in the ass to make any changes again down the road). Is it nice to have tools like this for your own ROM hacking? Is anyone else still hacking DoaE enough to be interested in this? :D
(At least it is kind of fun to program these things…)
Edit: Niahak, if you want source code for any of this junk for integration into a tool, or creation of a new tool, just let me know and it is yours.

ParticipantHere’s an update. Some folks have noticed a bug which cause experience requirements above or near 999,999 to grant duplicate level-ups after reaching level fifty (making levels 52+ possible). This bug has been fully resolved. You can now use the tool above to create experience values well above 999,999 without side effects. If you have already used the tool and experience totals run near that value please enter your data again and use the new hexadecimal output in your ROM.
