just came out on WII vc
October 25, 2008 at 3:53 am #36079NiahakModeratorYep. I’m tempted for sure. Haven’t played in years, since I made the poor decision to sell my copy :(
I found an actual copy at a Game Xchange near me, but it’s too expensive to consider really. At a price less than $20, I’m planning to pick it up on VC when my games dry up.
October 28, 2008 at 3:53 am #36080thechieftainParticipantIt was cheap, like 8 bucks i think.

Back in the late 90’s I made a dumbass decision to trade SF I and II for Goldeneye. At the time it seemed like good value since I could play the former two on the computer but now I wish I kept those sweet TRPG’s.

November 2, 2008 at 10:57 pm #36083NiahakModeratorPicked this one up earlier today for VC.
It’s much better (or at least more intuitive) than SF1 was, and I’m much happier with it overall. There are still the annoying double-attacks, but I’ve only had one character die due to them.
Maybe it’s just that the game’s easier…
So far I’ve played about 3 hours and I’m exploring the "mainland continent" the kingdom just landed at. I love the new-continent-exploration feel (it reminds me of Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the Eternal Sun, another great Sega RPG) and I hope this manages to maintain it.
November 3, 2008 at 12:17 am #36084thechieftainParticipantIts way better than d&d woes, had they made d&d after this then who knows what coulda happened
November 3, 2008 at 3:33 am #36085NiahakModeratorOh, sure, WOES is worse than SF2, but it’s still a decent game. It drags on a lot at the end and I never really beat it. If I remember right, like Drakkhen, bows are ridiculously imbalanced and the final areas are pretty much impossible without them.
The stuff with the main town was pretty cool, though. It was always interesting to me how everyone in the town gradually goes insane :P
I recall the PC D&D games were mostly better, though. Dark Sun was like what WOES should’ve been.
November 3, 2008 at 4:11 am #36086DragonAtmaModeratorD&D: Eternal Sun is one of the three Genesis games I had when the system died. And yeah, bows (and even slings) are vastly overpowered in dungeons. Especially when you have a nice, long corridor with no places for your vic– targets to hide in.
November 3, 2008 at 9:59 pm #36087thechieftainParticipantMy favorite part was when u go up by that campfire north of the castle and fight those bearman
November 7, 2008 at 2:57 am #36088NiahakModeratorBack on topic, SF2 is much better than 1. Experience wrap-over, more balanced characters, and a more interesting plot.
Caravan is crazy, too. I’d forgotten that it looks like an oversized hermit crab.
November 8, 2008 at 3:54 pm #36089thechieftainParticipantI wish it had a musashi or hanzo typo character. Claude, is sweet but not like a samurai or ninja.
November 8, 2008 at 6:49 pm #36090Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterI started up a quest of this the other day. Thanks to speed-up I’m back on Grans-Island close to finishing the game :)
Chose Randolf at Creed’s Mansion. Everyone is obsessed with Karna but I’m not really a fan of adding a second healer, even though it’s not really a bad idea. Plus I think the Mmnk class is cheap. Anyway, Jaha was a Baron already so I just made Randolf a Gladiator and gave him the Running Ring for a 7 movement (and his movement is 8 now thanks to the Ground Axe). Dude is the best tank in the game.
One thing about this game is I almost never seem to use the characters that join after the Creed’s Mansion character choice. I even used Kiwi all the way til the end despite his weak strength and HP. Well, sometimes though I turn Janet into a Brass Gunner and use her because the class looks cool (even though it sucks)
Such a fun game, flows well…I didn’t go out of my way to grind so it’s been pretty challenging on OUCH!! difficulty.
You like Claude chieftain? Claude and Zynk seem nice but I just can’t tolerate the crappy movement, plus they join so late it’s hard for me to justify removing a character for them. If anything I like to go back to Creed’s Mansion to get the rest of those characters since each of them are the best at their respective classes.
