ParticipantI have found a way to have sound for ROTK3 on WIN XP, but you’ll have to download a DOS emulator. Personally I chose DOSBOX, but you could have something else. Basically, it’s the same music from ROTK3 SNES version, but sounds more like MIDIs, but hey, it’s just cool to have found that fact. Right now, I’m trying to find a way to have sound in ROTK1, 2 and 4. If anybody has any information concerning thoses games and how to have all sounds, please tell everyone in this topic. BTW, to open the games, you must know which program you must open (for DOS at least) so here’s the program you must open for ROTK1 to 4.
-ROTK1: With DOSBOX, go to your ROTK1 directory, and open sangoku.exe or main.exe (it will lead to the same place), and start playing. (Personally, I tried to open it directly in XP, and it didn’t work, it told me: DISK IO ERROR)
-ROTK2: You can open main.exe in XP, but it’s only black and white, so I suggest opening rtk2.exe in DOSBOX to at least get color mode.
-ROTK3: Again, this one can be played in XP, but you’ll have no sound. The program to open the game in XP is koei.exe. In DOSBOX, open the same program, and you’ll have all sounds!
-ROTK4: Sadly, this one can’t open in DOSBOX, as it was released by the time of WIN95. In XP, put the game to be in 256 color mode, but the game might have a glitch, if you have a computer like mine. An alternate way is to put this game on a WIN98 comp (Like I did) so you can immediately put this in 256 colors. Or WIN95 if you still have it. I don’t know for other WIN versions though. What’s weird is that sound won’t play, even in 98, the only sounds you hear are sound effects, but no music (except when you win or lose a battle). BTW, the program to open is RTK4WIN.EXE.
-ROTK5: The version on kongming I found wouldn’t work either for DOSBOX or WIN XP, so please email me if you find a working game.
If you know anything about how to make the sounds work, reply to this topic!
And for the fun, I’ve put a poll to see who liked which ROTK game. This shall be promising.

ParticipantThat reminds me of the sounds I have on mine. I have the inn tune from DoaE as my turny-offy sound, the Diddly-do conformation sound of RottK8 as my promt/conformation sound, and I think the rest are sounds from Civilization2.
You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby

ParticipantROTK5? I found the PC version on Kongming.net. It’s in chinese, so I don’t understand, except for common events, like locust and things like this.
BTW, I finally found out how to open ROTK5! Open the file SAN5.exe. I don’t know if it works on XP, as I haven’t tried. What’s weird, is that ROTK4 is in windows, and ROTK5 in DOS, so you might just use DOSBOX or another DOS emulator for it to work properly in XP.

ParticipantROTK 2.. compared to ROTK X i only hear shouting…
but the only problem in rotk2 is the repitition of the song… youll hear the music ALL over again 30 seconds or less and it will still continue even though you captured all the cities excluding one
(i believe the music changes in other ROTK when you captured enough cities)
btw i played this in SNES not the pC version..
