LYS was saying the other day that he read there are
- No Runes,
- No Strategy Battles,
- Some stars are weapons
- Normal enemies do not drop Potch
- Weapons are equipped, not improved
Gee, that sounds like a regular ol’ boring RPG to me. They’d better have some damn good characters if they want this RPG to have a snowball’s chance in hell of being worth playing. Suikoden’s always had good characters, but they were icing on the larger-scale plot, swift combat-filled, military epic-inspired cake. Now most if not all of the cake’s gone.
It’s no True Runes, but other then that, that is exactly what Nintendo Power said about it. Also, apparently dimensions are fusing or something, so locations change or something. apparently, the story moves along based on missions, which are separate from quests for money.
October 27, 2008 at 7:31 pm #35902Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterYea antlan is correct. No TRUE runes, I should have said that…Mission based combat, I don’t know about that. I also don’t like that the only way you can get potch is by completely said missions. I’m wondering how potch is going to work if you only get arbitrary amounts for each mission.
So much is missing from this game for it to be a true Suikoden game. I’m really curious as to how it is going to turn out, I have a feeling there will be a little bit of the game I like but all the omissions are going to ruin the experience a little bit. The normal graphics aren’t that impressive to me but some of the scenes like the opening look nice. As I’ve said before, the best thing Tierkreis could do is renew interest in the series notably Suikoden VI, though I doubt they’ve come any closer to finding a reasonable console to put it on.

I’m mildly excited after hearing that for the most part, it seems to have a Suikoden feel with a good story, 108 stars of destiny, a castle to house them, etc.
But, I really don’t like the graphics at all. Should have just kept it 2d instead of lame 3d. Plus the game sounds really easy, the wi-fi stuff sounds dumb (not that I ever like that shit in any game).
Basically my expectations are something that has a hint of Suikoden and is more related to the series than you would think (despite the fact that there are no storyline-connections and a lot of gameplay differences).

March 18, 2009 at 8:52 pm #35905Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterGamestop just got this, so I picked it up. Haven’t had much of a chance to play, but I started a quest and watched the beginning then saved. Looks neat, the voice overs are probably going to be bad (kiddie), but the anime sequences are impressive. Should be able to sit down for a few hours later tonight with it.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMarch 18, 2009 at 10:14 pm #35906DragonAtmaModeratorNow, I’m not that into suikoden but…
In CC, they let you pick a team of three people out of 44 characters. Seeing as I use MAYBE a quarter of them, "4 out of 70" will NOT be good unless they manipulate the party the way FF2 does.
And no, I would not wish the next Edward upon you suikoden fans.
March 23, 2009 at 4:43 am #35907NiahakModeratorGetting this sometime this week. Amazon finally got their act together and shipped my pre-order ;)
I’m looking forward to even a knockoff of a spinoff of a Suikoden. Even if it’s only as good as 4, it will be the best RPG on the DS. Reviews have been fairly kind so far, and I think as long as I come in expecting a bit less than the normal Suikoden pedigree I won’t be disappointed.
Quote:I would not wish the next Edward upon you suikoden fans.We already had an Edward. His name was Freed Y and he did not do us the favor of (however temporarily giving the appearance of) dying.
Man, I think Freed Y was even worse than Tuta and Millie.
March 28, 2009 at 8:19 am #35908Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterI played a shitload of this today. Actually experienced some difficulty, with Jale getting his ass kicked by Selen.
Just finished up getting the Porpos-kin equivalent of the chronicles. Close to 20 hours in it seems…

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingMarch 28, 2009 at 4:23 pm #35909NiahakModeratorI’m enjoying it so far, even though 90% of battles seem pointless due to recovering both HP and MP on level up and the early low difficulty.
Very story-heavy. Don’t like the main characters as much as the usual cast, since they’re all super-happy-teen-rpg-stereotypes. But Suikodens have many characters, so I’m looking forward to thoroughly revamping my party ;)

April 29, 2009 at 3:37 pm #35912Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterhehe, whatup Zhang Liao, good to see you. Well…a lot of the kiddie stuff bugs me, there is a certain maturity level in Suikoden that this one certainly didn’t reach. That said, the game is true enough to the Suikoden style and at the very least it’s a good DS rpg, and cheap. Still is fun trying to recruit all 108 stars.
I’d say get it and give it a try if you like the Suikoden series, only drawbacks that come to mind are how brutally easy the game is and the aforementioned kiddie aspect of having your top characters act and talk like 14 year olds
Amazon has some copies of Suikoden Tierkreis DS for 26$+ or buy it new for 34$ with free shipping :) huohu

This also better not mean that Suikoden 6 will be on the Wii or Im gonna be pissed, I dont have a ps3 for Killzone 2.
April 29, 2009 at 10:22 pm #35914Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterlol, I hear you man. I would be pissed too if Suikoden 6 was on the Wii. Anyway, it’s been a playstation franchise for this long, let’s hope they stay that way despite their clear penchant to want Suiko VI to be as cheap as possible to reap as much $ as possible. Sure DS got Suikoden Tierkreis but that’s just a spin-off. Shows that yea, maybe Suikoden will go to another system…I’m just holding out hope that it doesn’t. I don’t want to have to buy another next gen system…
So yea I’d recommend Tierkeis but if you missed it it wouldn’t be the end of the world. Now that I’ve had some time through it I still enjoyed some of the earlier Suikoden’s because the lack of challenge in Tierkreis can just be numbing.
