Well guess what little tidbit of info just rocked my world and angried up the blood for the day:
In case any of you aren’t aware of the implications of what this means:
If this goes through, you can throw away your cd-rw drives and your dvd-rw drives, you basically won’t be able to use them for anything useful ever again. You can also forget about being able to back up anything you own (and paid your own money for) because you could get thrown in jail for 10 years for doing so. You can also get rid of your mp3 players unless you intend to buy all of your music online. The RIAA and MPAA want your money, and it seems as if they’ve got the backing of the entire Republican party at this point (which currently controls the House, the Senate, and the Executive office for another 2 years at least–barring the snowballs chance in Texas that King George [Bush] gets impeached or assassinated) to practically help them force it from you. They know they have the most popular topics in the world at their disposal (seriously, go to Overture and just try to come up with a more popular search topic than ‘music’) and they want to exploit the popularity of everything from deep musical expression to the shit that gets passed off as music on the radio stations and television channels that these industries spawn. This bill will allow them to have complete control over every single copy of any media that has ever been copyrighted or will ever be copyrighted in this country. Given that kind of power, who’s to stop them from mass-implementing self-destructive media formats? The answer of course is no one.
Disney has already started the trend with rental DVDs that will self destruct after 48 hours.
What does this mean? This means you’d potentially have to pay every time you want to watch a movie, or listen to a cd. Granted this would be an incredibly stupid move on behalf of these industries because people would become even more pissed off at the bullshit they are spewing out non-stop and hopefully boycott them instead of sitting idly by like listless cattle, wasting their money on what they are told by advertisers and peers to purchase.
I know this affects almost every single person in this country, and I’d guess every single person on this forum that lives here too. Unless you plan to leave the country (and believe me, if this shit passes, I do); and hell, even if you do plan to leave to leave this country, write some nasty (yet intellectual) emails or letters to your senator. If you live in Wisconsin, you damn well best be writing. Tell them that this is abuse; moreso it is abridgement of personal freedom and it WILL NOT STAND.

If you don’t have the fortitude to speak out, then you definitely don’t have the right to complain after your life gets fucked over by the people that want to rule you.

I’ve never understood why people who are already drowning in cash are always trying to get MORE MORE MORE! What the heck are they spending it on?
With the ever-rising price of oil and this nation’s senseless dependency on it, they probably need as much as they can get to fill up all their cars … and planes . . . :puke:
I’m of the line of belief that I’ll be out of this country before the shit hits the fan and I’ll be nestled away in Denmark or some nice neutral country within five years. In turn I don’t worry about the politics in America.

the US’s main oil source is KSA, which is where i live. without the oil here, usa and ksa would be nothing.
