Could anybody clear these names up? Some of these seem like they’re made up as I don’t recall reading about them or seeing them in any other games. I haven’t played some of the new RTK games so maybe they’re in those ones….
Wang Gui/Zhou Chao/Yang Jin/Song Yong/Song Ren – Pointless recruits. I think I’ve actually heard of Zhou Chao before and maybe Wang Gui, but Yang Jin is new to me. As are the Song brothers.
Huo Hu – He’s well-renowned at Lordyuanshu.com, but who the hell is he? I assume he’s a Shu tactician/Civil Officer that was mis-spelled.
Liang Ji – A Yuan Shu officer that I have found nothing on. Probably a Liang Gang friend.
Jiang Gan – Wei officer that you fight in the second Sima Yi battle. Is this supposed to be Jiang Wan?
Xu Shou – Is this supposed to be Xu You, the guy who helped Cao Cao with Guan Du?
Tao Qian – Not the Xu Zhou ruler Tao Qian but the Shu one with Meng Da in the Fu Shui gate battle.

Except Huo Hu, he’s a powder addict for sure. What else could keep him busy in an 8×8 room?
May 9, 2006 at 2:15 am #19242SamuelParticipantI can help a little bit, since I have played the Chinese version on PC.
Wang Gui/Zhou Chao/Yang Jin/Song Ren/Song Yong: none of them appears in the novel Romance of Three Kingdoms (ROTK). ROTK does not reflect the real history of the Three Kingdoms Period. Anyhow, the book which documents the real history (don’t know the title in English) does not list these guys.
Huo Hu: DOAE simply makes up this person. He did not exist in real history.
Liang Ji: He appears in the very first battle in DOAE2. He can be a low ranked general in Yuan Shu’s army. Chen Ji is a better known general.
Jiang Gan: He actually existed in real history. ROTK talked about him as an old friend of Zhou Yu. Jiang Gan served Cao Cao and tried to persuade Zhou Yu to surrender prior to Chi Bi. But Zhou Yu ended up exploiting him to trick Cao Cao into killing Cai Mao and Zhang Yun.
Tao Qian: I only know one Tao Qian, who ruled Xu Zhou. I don’t know this one in Shu.
May 9, 2006 at 2:18 am #19243Taishi CiParticipantI think the English title of the historical version is Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms.
Why would they have Jiang Gan in the latter stages of Wei if he played such a small role?
May 9, 2006 at 2:30 am #19244SamuelParticipantI don’t know why DOAE puts Gan Jiang (see "Generals’ Names" in DOAE2 threads) so late in Wei. But thanks for providing the English name for the historical version of ROTK, TaiShi Ci. Maybe I should call you Ci TaiShi now.
May 9, 2006 at 2:33 am #19245Taishi CiParticipantTaishi Ci will be fine (or Tai Shi Ci, if you are so inclined).
May 9, 2006 at 7:56 pm #19246Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterThank you for the information Samuel; I figured most of them were made up names but weren’t sure if they were bad translations.

You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby
