(This is totally a bit of an effort to change this board to Square or *shudder* Square-Enix)
Yeah, this ended up being my fall back RPG. There’s really nothing I dislike about Xenogears, it’s a damned good game all the way, good story, great combat system that doesn’t require (much) grinding, and is just generally a great game all-around.
Though, the last time I got to the end was waaayyy back in 2000, and I had the same problem where I just got to the final dungeon and quit.
You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby

no one cares if you can spell satan backwards, square. no one cares.
but yeah it’s pretty much the best jrpg square has made
edit: fuck I hate the symbolism in this game. just reiterating that.
edit2: and there were a few parts where it didn’t really give you any direction and by the end the gears were fucking broken and citan is fucking broken the moment he gets his swprd and it was pretty boring sometimes but it had pretty anime cutscenes and I remember a few being pretty gory so I guess that’s okay? also story was really crowded with way too much bullshit
but I mean the battle system was pretty good
edit3: and it was kind of nice how only human monsters dropped gold. even if REALISM didn’t make much sense when you’re firing off ki blasts straight out of DBZ and casting ELEMENTAL SPELLS :hurr:

I like Xenogears, but I haven’t played it in a long time, and playing Disc 2 is kinda like watching the last Eva episode.
I always thought the non-healing magic attacks were pretty useless. It’s hilarious to watch Fei’s Gear do Guided Shot where it’s this massive Ki beam and it ends up doing 0 against 97% of the enemies of the game. Still, complaints aside, Square actually had enough good shit to counteract all their problems.

Always felt these games were a little overrated…but I haven’t played enough of them to come up with a good argument against them…just not a fan, personally.
