ParticipantI’m curious…if you’ve tested out the Zheng letter like me and lordyuanshu have, what would be your revised top 10, based off of lordyuanshu’s rankings? Mine would be this…
10. Guan Suo (250/160): Comes in way too late for me to get any good use out of him. Besides, I’m usually relying on guys like Zhao Yun and Zhuge Liang at this point.
9. Ma Dai (230/175): My logic is that you don’t need the tiger generals to have a good party. Ma Dai fits in perfectly with his high strength and above average intelligence.
8. Wei Yan (240/90): I’m always a stickler for ax-users. Wei Yan was a beast for me, but keep him protected from tactics.
7. Zhang Lu (170/190): Beast against Liu Zhang, comes back to earth against everyone else.
6. Zhang Fei (255/60): Why is he ranked lower than Lu Bu? He leaves before the end. That’s why.
5. Lu Bu (255/50): There’s no one like him. Too bad he becomes utter crap when you go through Wei (his hits aren’t hard enough)
4 (tie). Yang Huai (170/100): Why the hell is Yang Huai #4? Simple. You get way too many of them with the Zheng Letter. 5 Yang Huai’s might actually work for you. They sure as hell didn’t for me.
4 (tie). Zhuge Liang (80/255): I prefer to use Mr. Zhuge in battle with Ma Liang or Jiang Wei as tactician. The guy NEVER misses with the tactics. He is kinda’ useless with a sword though.
3. Guan Yu (245/180): It’s Guan fuckin’ Yu. He rules. End of story.
2. Xiahou Dun (230/155): With adequate intelligence, he is comparable to Guan Yu’s sons.
1. Pang Tong (150/240): PANG TONG LIVES! Bring him back from the dead with the Zheng Letter and put him in your group ASAP. This gives you a reason to use Zhuge Liang in battle :D
Missed the Cut: Zhao Yun, Liu Bei, Bao Long, Jin Xuan, Outlaw Army :P
What do you think?

KeymasterIs this overall or just the generals you got via the glitch? Cause I’d sure like to know how to get more Zhuge’s! Well let me know and I’ll debug your list with the one I’m still working on.

KeymasterOkay sorry it took me a while to get my revised top ten up. More than anything the ability to duplicate the treatise, speed shoes and gauntlet have affected my changes. The Zheng Letter, not so much. Nice novelty item but at the end of the day I don’t think anyone other than Xiahou Dun matches up that you couldn’t get elsewhere. Lu Bu is nice but in fairness to how I grade Zhang Fei, I have to grade Lu Bu worse than him due to intelligence.
The Str/Int/Agi totals are adjusted due to the assumption that you duplicated the Treatise, Speed Shoes, and Gauntlet, thus everyone has one of each.
1 – Jiang Wei (210/255/255) – Jiang Wei with a Treatise, Speed Shoes, Gauntlet, and a Qing Guang is the ultimate DoaE character. Maxed out Int and Agi, with an Agi 50 better than the next highest (Meng Da). 255 ATP with the Qing Gang equipped and he gets An Sha.
2 – Zhao Yun (240/220/200) – After returning from Zhang Ren’s ambush on Pang Tong, you can get Zhao Yun clones at Fu Shui castle. I tend to use two Zhao Yun’s in my final party because of this.
3 – Pang Tong (150/255/145) – 30 less Agi than Zhuge Liang but 70 more Str to go with an equal Int. He adds another 255 tactician and is the prize of the Zheng Letter trick, more than Xiahou Dun or the Zhao Yun clones. I found him at An Ding but Zhang Lu got him at Nan Jun and I’ve heard Chang An too. When he rejoins he can’t be removed from your active party, thus you can’t duplicate him. Normally it’s a rule of thumb with the Zheng Letter that in order to duplicate a character you have to drop him in billetting and go back to the same throne without advancing the plot. Maybe there are ways to get multiple Pang Tong’s, that might be helpful.
4 – Zhuge Liang (80/255/175) – Poor Zhuge, Pang Tong and Jiang Wei can tie his Int and Zhuge can do nothing with the Treatise and his already-maxed out 255. His agility is a bit more tolerable than Pang Tong but his strength is also another knock against him.
5 – Guan Suo (250/180/155) – Passes Guan Xing by a hair due to the fact that Guan Xing doesn’t stay long enough to use the Treatise or Speed Shoes. Overall has more total Str/Int/Agi than Zhuge but Int is more valued in my book.
6 – Ma Chao (240/160/195) – I like the agility and he has more total than Guan Suo, but Guan Suo’s Str/Int differential is more useful for me.
7 – Guan Yu (245/180/160) – How’d Guan Yu fall so far? Well he leaves your party a bit too early and can’t get the stat boosts. I’ve never acquired a Guan Yu duplicate but Zhang Lu says it’s possible.
8 – Ma Dai (230/195/155) – Another lucky character who passes Guan Xing based on the Treatise/Speed Shoes. Another clone-able general.
9 – Guan Xing (235/175/150) – Versatile character but like his dad he loses ground by coming in late and leaving early.
10 – Zhang Lu (170/210/195) – Zhang Lu hangs on by a thread over the likes of Huang Zhong and Xiahou Dun. Another versatile character who’s exorbitant soldier count will last unless you’re a crackhead level-builder. You can get Zhang Lu clones also.
As you see mine is sort of by the book in terms of total stats although it does vary depending on the circumstance.
Generally at the end of the game I’ll have Jiang Wei, Zhao Yun, Guan Suo, Pang Tong and Zhuge Liang in my party. If I want a seven person party (which I never do) I’d use Jiang Wei, Zhao Yun, Zhao Yun, Zhao Yun and Pang Tong with Guan Suo in the sixth position and Zhuge in seventh.

ParticipantSo I’m guessing you didn’t acquire the Jiu-swilling souse?
Which Xiahou Dun is it, the Jizhou one or the Xiangyang one?

KeymasterNo Jiu-swilling souse. He’s a legend in his own right and quite frankly that’d be too good to be true.
Yes it is the Xiang Yang Xiahou Dun.

ParticipantYou could add him in. Just take Pang Tong, rename him and change his sprite.
