ParticipantCao Cao has fallen to my blade…kinda sad now that he’s gone, he should’ve been one of the last bosses (the last will be Sima Yi, of course).
Oh well, I’m off to destoy Wei.
Taishi Ci
ParticipantAlthough I must admit, between Ma Chao working for Cao Cao and Liu Bei getting knifed, I’m not sure where the plot is going.
Taishi Ci
ParticipantNo worries, there is a happy ending to that episode (although a little cliche, I think).
Taishi Ci
ParticipantThe general turned out to be Ma Chao, and now he is in my party. Only one guy left, who can it be?
Taishi Ci
ParticipantNot from what I can see. It might be on the load screen but I’ve been using save states.
Taishi Ci
ParticipantThe guy defending Cao Cao at Chi Bi had the same boss picture as the gate captain near Yuan Shao’s, so I am designating him Xiahou Dun for now since that seems to make sense.
I just fought a new guy who was with Cao Cao, not sure who he is. Zhang Liao? Maybe even Ma Chao? I’ll figure it out later, I guess.
Taishi Ci
ParticipantI think there’s already a DOAE3 topic on there, just drop the link from there.
In other news, Chi Bi is TOO BIG. Apparently in this game, when Cao Cao says he has a million soldiers then he really does doeas have a million soldiers.
Taishi Ci
ParticipantNo offense taken.
Lord Yuan Shu, have you pointed this walkthrough out to anyone on Kongming.net? I’m sure there’d be interested people.
Taishi Ci
ParticipantIt might be because you have that speedup thing you’re using. Also, I’ve been trying to dodge some enemies since I have to walk around the whole area to write the walkthrough for them.

ParticipantHere is the story as I understand it so far:
-The brothers swear brotherhood and fight the Yellow Scarves.
-Several years later, they are serving Cao Cao. They go out and defeat the forces of Yuan Shu.
-Cao Cao learns of the Blood Seal and tries to kill the brothers. Guan Yu holds off the enemy so Liu Bei and Zhang Fei can escape. Guan Yu is captured.
-Liu Bei and Zhang Fei go to work for Yuan Shao. Cao Cao attacks Yuan Shao’s territory so he sends out his two guards (I’m guessing they are Yan Liang and Wen Chou) and the party to repel Cao Cao.
-The party meets some of Cao Cao’s troops in the forest, but they hold them off while Yuan Shao’s troops get by.
-The party comes to the gate, where they see Guan Yu kill Yuan Shao’s guards. Liu Bei talks to him and he rejoins, then the party flees south to Jingzhou.
-They meet Liu Biao, who orders them to crush the rebels in Xinye and the village.
-After putting down these rebels, Liu Biao gives Liu Bei Xinye so he can protect it. Cao Cao’s troops attack from the north so the party goes through a cave and defeats them.
-Upon returning to Xinye, the party learns that Jingzhou is in trouble. They go there and rescue Cai Mao, who tells them that the rebels have taken Xiakou.
-The party clears the rebels out of Xiakou, and pursue them to the eastern forest, where the rebels are finally defeated. (There is a short meeting at the forest with Cai Mao and Liu Biao, not sure what goes on there).
-Back at Xinye, Liu Bei receives word that Sima Hui would like to see him. He meets with Sima Hui and gets a letter of recommendation.
-Liu Bei visits Zhuge Liang with the letter. Zhuge asks him to defeat the spirit in the tomb behind his house. After doing so, Zhuge Liang joins the group.
-In Xinye, Liu Bei learns that Cao Cao has sent more troops to attack Jingzhou. Zhuge Liang plans to defeat them at Bo Wang Slope, and he, Zhang Fei, and Zhao Yun go off to set up an ambush.
-Liu Bei and Guan Yu encounter Cao Cao’s vanguard at Bo Wang Slope and defeats them. Reinforcements arrive but are scattered when Zhao Yun burns the forest. The leaders are caught in a pincer by Zhuge Liang and Zhang Fei, and are defeated.
-Liu Bei is told that Liu Biao has died, and his son Liu Zong has surrendered to Cao Cao. The party flees to Wu, where they ally with Sun Quan.
-Sun Quan orders them to kill Cai Mao at Xiangyang before he can fully train the Wei troops. After repairing the bridge from Jiangxia, the party arrives at Xiangyang, where Huang Zhong and Cai Mao are waiting.
-They kill Cai Mao, but Huang Zhong flees. They pursue him to the port behind Xiangyang and defeat him, where he submits and joins the party.
-Back at Chaisang, Zhou Yu mentions that a southwest wind is needed for the fire boats to work. Zhuge metions that a mystic lives to the south who might know how to summon the wind.
-The party ascends the tower and defeat the mystic, after which he surrenders the Wind Scroll.
-Zhuge gives the Wind Scroll to Zhou Yu, who goes off to burn Cao Cao’s fleet at Chi Bi.
That’s how far I have gotten, I am at Chi Bi now. Like I said, some of this is probably wrong, but at least some plot is better than having no idea what’s going on.

ParticipantI looked at their status screens and, if Commie has his screens right, Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang are slighty faster than the others, while Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, and Huang Zhong have higher strength, Huang Zhong’s being a little weaker to compensate for using a bow. I’m not sure if the fourth stat is really magic aptitude, though, as Liu Bei has 152 but Zhuge only has 81. HP/MP-wise, Liu Bei has the highest HP while the rest fall around the same level, and Liu Bei and Zhuge have the highest MP (Zhuge being on top).
Battle-wise, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Zhao Yun work best in the front pummeling the enemy, as they can take the hits and dole out great damage. Liu Bei and Zhuge are best in the back since they are more suited for using magic and I like to have them use items when needed. Huang Zhong also goes in the back since he is long-ranged.
Lastly, only characters fighting get experiance. I haven’t used Zhao Yun in a while so he is level 30 while the rest of my party is ~37.

ParticipantHuang Zhong Limits (He joins with 2):
1) He does a chant and a fire dragon shoots out and hits a single foe.
2) He does a chant and several stones rise out of the ground and slam a single foe.
Zhuge Liang Limit:
1) He swings his sword and a power arc flow out and hits a single foe.

ParticipantWell the guy there looks like him and you did have to kill him at Xiangyang in DOAE2, so I just put his name up there. But remember, I’m just guessing the plot for quite a few areas here. Right now the guide is really just to tell people where to go when, since it’s not always clear, like in Jingzhou proper where there are 5 different areas to go from where you start.
Edit: I am become a CK One-Y. Nice.

ParticipantWell I thought they skipped Chi Bi since I got Huang Zhong but now I think Chi Bi is where I am after all, so I changed the city names in the walkthrough. I wonder why they gave me Huang Zhong early?

ParticipantI can’t imagine why anyone who can’t speak Japanese would want the SNES DOAE3 ROM, the language barrier is too large to ignore and it just seems like a simplified ROTK.
The Genesis ROM, though, is a real ROTK RPG and pretty intuative for anyone who’s ever played the SNES Final Fantasy’s. Hopefully once I finish the guide it’ll become more popular.
