LoCC Chapter 4 Resurrection of Demon King
____________________________________ Chapter 4: Resurrection of the Demon King Your strategists will report on the situation. With Sun Quan dead and Wu demolished, Cao Cao returns to Jing to begin his attack on Shu. You’ll see evil Zhuge again in a scene with Jiang Wei. Zhuge has set up a trap for Cao Cao, the Stone Warrior Formation maze.
Battle 38: Stone Warrior Formation —————————————— Conditions for Victory: Reach the north end of the maze within 30 turns! Enemies: 16 Clay Soldiers, 4 Zhuge Liang’s (Master Strategist) Rewards: 3600 Gold Special Items: Blue Jade (complete the battle), Zhuge’s Hat (complete the battle) This battle’s a different from usual. For starters, move everyone north into the southwest square of the maze. Now send someone to the next square north; this will cause the gate to the center-south square to open. Send another person to that area to cause the gate to the northwest square to open. Zhuge will pop up and taunt you before moving to the center-north square and summoning up a new enemy, the Clay Soldiers. Send about half your army after him. These guys will cause confuse with each punch, so be careful. Break through them and hit Zhuge; another Zhuge arrives and moves to the middle-east square, where he also summons more Clay Soldiers. Get your other group to attack this new threat. Once you hit this second Zhuge, a third Zhuge will show up in the south-east square with yet more clay Soldiers. Just move any troops out of the middle-west square to close a door so they can’t bother you. After you kill the other two Zhuge’s, go south to deal with this one. Once you’ve reached the southeast square, the door to the northeast square will open along with another Zhuge. Kill this last Zhuge to open the northeast square’s north gate, then walk through for the victory. Between battles: Zhuge Liang’s maze couldn’t stop Cao Cao, and he continues his march. Restock and deploy.
Battle 39: Baidicheng ————————– Conditions for Victory: Defeat all enemies within 30 turns! Enemies: 7 Soldiers, 6 Archers, 6 Catapults, 5 Chariots, 2 Monks, 2 Cavalry, Zhang Yi (Soldier), Ma Dai (Chariot), Zhang Ji (Monk), Wei Yan (Cavalry), Ma Su (Status Mage), Ma Liang (Attack Mage), Jiang Wei (Attack Mage), Zhuge Liang (Master Strategist) Rewards: 3800 Gold Special Items: Red Jade (complete the battle) Zhuge’s guarding the castle here along with his strategist pals. Beging by attacking the gate guards here, they shouldn’t put up much of a fight. Once you’re inside, those catapults are going to be sniping at you the whole time, so try and destroy them with spells. Take out the group to your left and continue inside. Zhang Yi’s group will move toward you following this; put Cao Cao next to him and they’ll have a quick duel where Cao Cao kills him. After killing Zhang Yi, you can choose whether or not to taunt the other Shu generals; the first choice does nothing, while the second choice opens the middle south gate. If you open the gate, Wei Yan’s group will charge you, so lure them south and away from their support before you eliminate them. Once you’ve gone either through that gate or the one Ma Dai is guarding, Zhuge and Jiang Wei will retreat, leaving Ma Liang and Ma Su to deal with you. Ma Liang will summon some Wooden Soldiers, and Ma Dai’s group will head for your position if they’re still alive. Since Zhuge was nice enough to leave the east gate open, just go around from that side and ambush Ma Liang to remove those pesky Wooden Soldiers. Then just finish off any remaining enemies and you’re done. Between battles: With Ma Su and Ma Liang defeated, Cao Cao’s army proceeds on its march to Cheng Du.
Battle 40: Gates of Yizhou ——————————- Conditions for Victory: Defeat all enemies within 30 turns! Enemies: 8 Soldiers, 6 Catapults, 4 Archers, Yi Ji (Healing Mage), Sun Qian (Archer), Fa Zheng (Healing Mage), Jian Yong (Archer), Wei Yan (Cavalry), Ma Su (Status Mage) Rewards: 4000 Gold Special Items: Black Jade (complete the battle) Not a lot of enemies to start with. Begin by clearing out the gate in front of you, shouldn’t be too hard. After everyone in the east gate is dead, fortify the east gate and send a small group to attack Ma Su’s group. Once you defeat him, Ma Su will call his ambushes, with the Nanman troops appearing at your starting point, Ma Chao’s chariots appearing on the far side of the west gate, and Lei Tong’s group past the north gate. You’ll be asked whether you want to break through the north gate or just defeat all enemies. Use your main army to easily defeat the Nanman, who are cut off from support. By the time you’ve killed them, Ma Chao should be at your doorstep, so turn around and deal with him next. Lei Tong’s group will garrison the north gate, and will only attack if you get close, so don’t worry about them. If you still need to defeat all enemies, go take out the west gate; either way, once you’re done, move north toward the north gate. Lure out Lei Tong’s soldiers and dispatch them. Then begin your attack on the gate. If you didn’t already conquer the west gate, Yi Ji will call for help and they’ll start moving toward you, but it’s too late for them. When you get a path open, send Cao Cao through and you’ve won. Between battles: Cao Cao crushed Ma Su’s feeble defense force, although Ma Su himself managed to escape. Sima Yi suggests a plan, and Jia Xu and Diao Chan go to carry it out, making them unavailable for deployment. Restock if you need to, and deploy for the next battle.
Battle 41: Jieting ——————— Conditions for Victory: Defeat all enemies within 30 turns! Enemies: 11 Soldiers, 8 Archers, 8 Catapults, 2 Cavalry, 2 Mounted Archers, Liu Feng (Soldier), Meng Da (Soldier), Jiang Wan (Attack Mage), Fei Wei (Healing Mage), Zhao Yun (Special Cavalry), Huang Zhong (Mounted Archer), Wei Yan (Cavalry), Ma Su (Status Mage) Rewards: 4100 Gold Special Items: White Jade (complete the battle)Ma Su and Wei Yan are still retreating, and make it past the first gate just as your army arrives. They’ll spend their time fleeing to the northwest fence, so move forward and assualt the first gate in front of you. Unlike the last level, the guards aren’t content to wait for you and will move to attack once you’re near the gate. Still, you should be able to defeat them without too much of a problem. Then fortify the north half of this gate with your best officers. On the enemy’s fifth turn, Ma Su will be in position and will call out Ma Chao’s chariot troops again. You’ll once again be asked if you want to break through the gate in the northwest or just defeat all enemies. If you picked to break through, the troops from the east gate will decide to be helpful by also attacking you. Stay in the gate and beat back the enemies. If you brought Sima Yi, have him use his ultimate wind spell over and over to weaken the enemies; no one will be healing them. On the enemy’s seventh turn the Nanman join the fun by appearing at your starting point, so send out some excess generals to repel them while you continue to hold out against the main army. It’s a battle of endurance, but unless you get poor luck with your hits you should be able to win out in the end if you hold the gate. When you’ve finally killed them all, just move up to the northwest gate. Don’t forget to send someone over to the east gate to grab the goodies at the forts. Most of the enemies at the northwest are ranged, so you should easily be able to move past them/kill them for the win. Between battles: Ma Su’s flight ends with his death at the hands of Wei. Sima Yi reports that Zhuge Liang has been spotted further north near Han Zhong, and Cao Cao moves to engage. Meanwhile, we see Diao Chan and her Scarves buddies meet up with Xu Shu. Diao Chan and Jia Xu return to Cao Cao’s camp as Cao Cao prepares to move out. Bring Sima Yi for the next battle to make it a lot easier.
Battle 42: Han Zhong Mountains ————————————– Conditions for Victory: Defeat Jiang Wei within 40 turns! Enemies: 12 Soldiers, 7 Archers, 7 Chariots, 5 Pirates, 4 Cavalry, 2 Mounted Archers, 2 Monks, 2 Healing Mages, 2 Attack Mages, Ma Dai (Chariot), Ma Chao (Chariot), Wei Yan (Cavalry), Zhao Yun (Special Cavalry), Huang Zhong (Mounted Archer), Jiang Wei (Attack Mage) Rewards: 4200 Gold Evil Zhuge runs inside the mountain and leaves Jiang Wei and the Shu army to hold you off. You can tell this battle is going to be epic just by looking at it; not very many officers, but hordes of generic enemies are all across the map. Mountains block the most direct path, so you’ll have to move around from the bottom. Make sure you bring Sima Yi, and have him spam his wind spell over and over so the enemies along the way become weaker and easier to kill once you’re in range. Begin by moving south and taking out the small group in the forest. It always seems to start off raining, so your attack mages should stay back until the rain stops. Try and kill the enemies before their turns come up, or the healing mages down in the river will heal them from afar. Once the first group falls, put all your mages on the right side of your group and move further south to the mountain pass. Meng You will show up at the pass and the Nanman troops will ambush you in the forest. Have your people with the best defense hold back Meng You while you deal with the Nanman. They are pretty hard to attack, and you’ll likely be hurting once they’re dead, so heal up as you continue your march south. You’ll have a nice rest spot here since there are only a few enemies guarding a tent. Heal up and move off into the river. You could just cross straight east, but leaving the healers behind will annoy you, so go ahead and defeat them and their entourage. If you’ve been casting the wind spell each turn they should be softened up a bit, making it easier. After they’ve dropped, get out of the water and scale the mountain to reach Jiang Wei’s camp. Constant use of the wind spell will have turned this place into a ghost town by now, making it smooth sailing to Jiang Wei. Unfortunately, once you enter the camp, Jiang Wei will summon up some of your friends from Jian Ye, the Wooden Soldiers. Plow through the rest of the enemies and execute Jiang Wei to conquer the battle. Between battles: Xu Shu enters Cao Cao’s tent to tell you about Zhuge Liang. This is the big one, so sell everything and spend all your cash on supplies before you move out.
Final Battle: Hall of the Demon King —————————————- Conditions for Victory: Reach the inner chamber within 40 turns! Enemies: Lu Su Ghost (Attack Mage), Lu Meng Ghost (Attack Mage), Zhou Yu Ghost (Strategist), Sun Jian Ghost (Ruler), Sun Ce Ghost (Ruler), Sun Quan Ghost (Ruler), Liu Bei Ghost (Ruler), Zhang Fei Ghost (Special Cavalry), Zhuge Liang (Master Strategist), Wooden Soldiers, Clay Soldiers You’re inside the mountain now, with four rooms around you. Only the east room, filled with water, is open. Inside are the ghosts of Wu’s strategists, complete with Wooden Soldiers. The ghosts are the same classes as when they were alive. Clear out the wood soldiers and then exorcise the ghosts to make them stop spawning. After they’re dead, the south room will open, and the souls of the Sun family arrive along with Clay Soldiers. The Clay Soldiers are going to quickly clog up the hallway to the Sun room, so burn them with spells and rush in before they respawn. Once you’re done ghostbusting, the west room opens, but no one appears inside yet. Take the time to move your people back out of the earth room and regroup in the middle, healing if needed. Then bring some strong people followed by Cao Cao inside the room to make the spirits of Liu Bei and Zhang Fei appear. They haven’t got any soldiers, so they just shut the door and confuse everyone outside. Send them back to the netherworld, shouldn’t be too hard. When they’re laid to rest, the north room finally opens and Zhuge appears. He decides to resummon all the people you just killed, so now you get to kill them again. He laughs about something, but it seems like his demon summoning ritual isn’t working. Anyway move north and cut through the deadweights. Watch out, the Wu strategists like to burn you while you’re in the hallway. Did I mention these guys respawn? Get behind them as soon as possible and take down Evil Zhuge for good.
Aftermath: Evil Zhuge’s at the shrine. Cao Cao runs in and confronts the demon, who departs. Zhuge Liang collapses as he regains his senses. He has one final talk with Cao Cao before he passes on. Guan Yu enters and they mourn Zhuge Liang’s death. Later, outside on the cliff face, Xu Shu approaches Cao Cao and gives him a letter. They continue to talk about Guan Yu and the future of the kingdom. Guan Yu is praying at a tomb as Cao Cao enters and talks to him about what he’ll do next. Guan Yu leaves, and Cao Cao gives a quick prayer at the tomb before Xiahou Dun and Xun Yu come to him. Xu Chu and Diao Chan also appear (I guess they’re a couple now). Cao Cao wishes them luck, and everyone leaves the tomb as the credits begin. You’ll get to see that stats of all your generals here while the credits flash by. At the end of the credits there will be a blue bird icon, and when the game closes, load it up again and the bird will be there on the title screen, showing you beat the Blue Storyline. Congratulations, you beat Legend of Cao Cao! Try the Red path if you haven’t already, or try to collect all the special weapons.
