LoCC Gameplay Basic
Legend of Cao Cao Walkthrough
Gameplay basics Foot > Archer Archer > Mounted Mounted > Foot Mounted archer counts as archers. Tactics are based on the 4 elements. Yellow is wind, red is fire, brown is earth, and blue is water. Wind can hit anywhere provide the enemy’s not on a fort, in the forrest, of behind a wall (doesn’t matter if the wall is brick of stick). Fire can be used anywhere as long as it’s not raining. Earth can by used on mountains or rocky terrain. Water can be used if the enemy is standing next to a body of water, or standing in snow. You can check what tactics you can use when you click on any square on the map. The ones can’t be used are greyed out. Unit movement is a little weird. You can’t move in between 2 enemy units. Let me show you an example E = Enemy C = Cao Cao 0 = nothing E 0C E Cao Cao’s movement is 5, but if he wants to move through those 2 enemies, it’ll take you 2 turns to do it. E C E This is about as far as you can move. You’ll only be able to escape that in the next turn. The same applies to your enemies. Actually the 4 square around anyone can block someone 0x xCx 0x Those X’s are places that causes movement to be reduce around the character. It applies to all unless they are riding the Red Hare.
Consecutive Attacks Sometimes you’ll notice people can double attack. These are basically random, but the better the reflex, the better the chance. Catapults can get consecutive attacked quite often. This is NOT like Liu bei’s Sword though. The way Liu Bei’s sword works is attack, get counter-attacked, then attack again. Consecutive attacks hit twice before enemies can counter attack.
Misc.
You know when you kill someone, you get a item sometimes? If that enemy is killed by an NPC (like Guan Yu for example) you still get the item for yourself, so no need to worry about that. Also, if you fill up the entire secret weapons chart, you can get all the secret weapons when you start a new game. I forgot who, but the guy in that teaches you how to play the game will ask you if you want them after he asks you if you want him to teach you how to play. first he asks you if you want him to teach you, then he asks if you want the weapons and stuff, finally, he asks you if you like a level boost.
What’s even cooler is that with all the special weapons, you can get them again as you play through the game! Now to fill out the special weapons chart, you have to play the game at least twice. Once in the good path, another in the evil path. Also, you are required to have some people die (Dian Wei, Guo Jia, Xiahou Yuan, and Pang De) in order to get them. The good part is that you can make a save in that stage, let them die, finish the chapter to get the item, then reload the chapter and save the character before going forward. You only need to fill out the weapon chart for it to work. You can check out the weapon chart by clicking the imperial seal icon I believe. Some chapters can be skipped. The pursuit of Dong Zhou can be skipped if you picked the other option. You only need to attack Yan Zhou once (or twice) if you win the first or second battle without escaping.
Here’s an image of the shop. The first 3 items I’m sure require no explaination. The green plant cures poison. The blue plant cures confusion. The green with a yellow bulb cures paralysis. The Redish one cure silence. The one with the roots is a cure all herb that cures any and all of the 4 problems above. The final gold thing is the class change item. again, you can buy these buy the time you’re in chapter 2. Oh yeah, the class change item also acts as a full HP restore item. When you class change while your HP is low, it fully restores your HP. Of course this side affect can only be used twice in the game. I recommend class changing a soon as possible.
More Info About the Weapons and Armors
Regular weapons can be bought in the shops. They can only level up 3 times. The special weapons I listed can be leveled up 9 times and can’t be sold. while the most powerful normal weapon at level 3 at the end of the game is about 10 points higher, the special weapons make up for it with their special powers. The same applies to armor. You gain weapon experience by attacking and armor experience when you get hit. Pretty simple. This is not a real secret (but you’ll need chinese knowledge to know about it), but if you max a regular weapon’s level and sell it, you’ll get a status boosting bean. Let me show you how it works.
This is Dian Wei’s stats.
Notice the numbers next to his protrait? While those numbers kind of acts as historical ratings, they actually have another meaning. Dian Wei has Power: 100 Reflex: 98 Intelligence: 52 Luck: 72 Leadership: 80. These are actually their growth rates! IGNORE the class info that says S, A, B , and C. That stuff tells you what they should be, not how your characters will grow. Power and Intelligence are pretty much self explainitory. I have NO CLUE what Luck does (but might be related something I’ll cover below) and Leadership is Defense growth. Reflex covers many things. It covers your accuracy, your ability to dodge attacks, and your critical rate. Look at Dian Wei, his class says his strength growth is A, but his power is 100, thaat means it’s actually S ranked growth!!! Not A ranked. Similarly, if it’s actually below the number, then it’ll grow lower. So don’t trust the class info section for data, it’s not the whole story. S = 4 Point A = 3 Point B = 2 Point C = 1 Point That means Dian Wei will gain 4 points of strength when he levels up, not 2. But the numbers don’t have to be 100, anything from 90-100 is S rank growth. S = 90-100 A = 70-89 B = 50-69 C = 0-49 This is how you can tell who rocks and who sucks. Although all the tactican in this game rocks so they don’t really have to worry about the stats. But wait, there’s a way to boost those numbers to make them grow better!
Remember I mentioned beans that you can get by selling maxed out equipment? Those beans increase your growth rate numbers by 2 points. And when used in battle, they act as a stats booster for a random number of turns. Different types of equipment gives you different types of beans. Check your inventory whenever you sell a maxed out equipment. You’ll see a bean appear in it. don’t worry, I’ll tell you what gives you what. Lance = Power Bean Sword = Experience Bean (just more experience for leveling up) Bow = Luck Bean Staff = Luck Bean Catapult = Power Bean Fan = Intel Bean Magic Sword = Intel Bean Armor = Leadership Bean Clothing = Reflex Bean So, let say you have a Power Bean, if you use it on Cao Ren, his 88 strength will increase to 90, thus making his strength growth into S rank. Naturally, the lower the number, the more beans you need. It’s not wise to try and make someone with low intelligence and boost them to 90. It’s much better and easier to boost someone with moderately high stats to make them even better. Look at the Dian Wei picture again. Let me explain the stats to you in those blue bars. The first one is power. The second one is defense. The third one is critical rate, but it also figures into accuracy, and ability to dodge attacks. The last stat is morale, which I know is based on luck growth. As to what morale does? I have no freaking clue. I never had to worry about this stat to beat the game anyway, so it’s probably not really that important. But if you got some Luck Beans to spare, might as well put them to use anyway. No sense in letting them go to waste.
Revised Character Growth Explanation
A character’s growth rates dependson their class base rank and their profile. It’s not just their profile that decides their growth. It’s actually an average of their class based growth along with their profile that decides their growth rates, not just the profile.
1. If someone’s class has S rank in stat, but someone’s profile is below 90, then their growth is only A rank. For example, Cao Ren’s class has S rank base strength, but Cao Ren’s profile gives him only 88 strength, then that means his strength growth is only A rank. But if you give him a strength bean to boost it by 2 point (each bean boost 2 points), then it’ll be 90, and his strength growth becomes S rank.
2. If the class based stats are A rank, but the profile is only good enough for B rank, all you have to do is boost the profile stat to 70 or above to make it A rank again. If it’s B to down to C, then a profile of 50 or above will return it to B rank growth.
3. If the class based stats are S rank, but the profile stats are lower than 50, then the growth rate becomes a B rank.
4. Only B rank and C rank can boost growth rates, if it’s A rank or S rank, it cannot go up any further. For example, when your class based stat is B and you want to raise it to A, you need a 90 or more in order to boost it to A rank. You need 70 or more point to go from C to B rank.
