Few duos around the league in 1990 could match Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonilla. Despite great regular season stats, neither player stepped up in the 1990 or 1991 NL Championship Series. Bonilla bolted to New York after the 1991 loss, while Bonds hung around for one more year just to lose again in the playoffs to the Braves. Barry then went on to the Giants and went on to produce the craziest HR / BB / OBP / SLG / OPS stats the world has ever seen.

Super Baseball Simulator 1000 for SNES is based on the 1990 statistics.

1991 Pittsburgh Pirates Team Analysis : Ah, back when the Pirates used to make the playoffs. Naturally, they are led by XAVR and ZACH (Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonilla). Bonds leads the team with a .300 average, has 30 home runs and is tied for the fastest player on the team with a running speed of 12. Bonilla is slow but in addition to his 35 home runs he hit .290. Andy Van Slyke is really the only other offensive starter worth talking about, with a near .300 average 15 HR’s 12 running 12 fielding. Jay Bell, Jeff King and Jose Lind are passable but provide little dynamic ability. Lavalliere and Gary Redus (CARL and ADRW) are liabilities, and Redus should probably be replaced by Mike Webster who at least has 18 home runs to his credit. Don Slaught (backup Catcher) should probably be playing for Lavalliere too.
Pitching is led by Doug Drabek, with his 38 ST. Zane Smith (1.10 ERA) doesn’t have the raw stuff an ERA like that would have you think he has. Smiley throws fast and has an ST that is boosted a tad, so he is an above average third starter. Neal Heaton is pretty generic, and their bullpen is below average.
