From the Zelda Twilight Princess Cave of Ordeals Walkthrough
The Cave of Ordeals is in the Gerudo Mesa warp point. Bring 4 Bottles of Fairies – 100 Arrows – 1000 Rupees – Magic Armor.
There are 50 floors, each with a unique set of monsters. Here they are. ( Note that in order to go past the 10th floor you need the Spinner. In order to go past the 20th floor you need the Ball and Chain. In order to go past the 30th floor you need the Dominion Rod and to get past the 40th floor you’ll need the Double Clawshot. )
st – 1 Bokoblin
nd – 3 Keese and 3 Rats
rd – 4 Deku Babas
th – 3 Big Skulltulas
th – 3 Bokoblin Archers
th – 9 Fire Slugs
th – 5 Fire Keese and 2 Dodongos
th – 6 Tektites
th – 2 Lizalfos and 2 Bokoblin Archers
th – 1st Great Fairy. Hopefully you can get through these ten floors rather easily. Certainly don’t waste much of your Magic Armor at this point, be conservative and shoot the archers / slugs from afar when the opportunity presents itself. Floor 9 may warrant a quick use of the Magic Armor to get rid of the Bokoblin Archers without incident but the Lizalfos are pretty easy.
th – 3 Helmasaurs and 14 Rats
th – Giant Chu
th – 4 Bubble Bugs
th – 10 Bubbles
th – 10 Bokoblins
th – 8 Keese and 8 Rats
th – 10 Undead Wolves and 1 Poe
th – 10 Leevers
th – Several Chu’s
th – 2nd Great Fairy. Nothing on these floors is very hard either – the 11th may catch you by surprise but run around and kill the rats first to clear some room to work with the Helmasaurs. Chu’s are easily done in and the 10 Leevers is actually one that may cause you to get a hit a few times. Don’t forget the Poe on 17th Floor.
st – 5 Bokoblins and 5 Ice Keese
nd – 5 Keese, 5 Rats and 8 Undead Rats
rd – Many Mini-Stalfos’
th – 5 Gibdos
th – 4 Bokoblin Archers and 10 Bokoblins
th – 3 Stalfos’
th – 4 Bubbles and 3 Big Skulltulas
th – 10 Bokoblins and 2 Lizalfos
th – 2 Stalfos’, 4 Bubbles and several Mini Stalfos
th – 3rd Great Fairy. Well, these 10 seem to be the Undead floors. The Gibdos are bastards as they can freeze you, allowing them a free sword hit on you. The trick is staying away and having Wolf Link lunge at them and bite (two sets of bites kills them) but beware when you jump off of the Gibdos – you may be near another one immediately. The Undead Rats on 22 will slow you down so have those Senses out and charge attack quick. With the Stalfos, have the Ball and Chain around to destroy them when the bones hit the ground.

st – 5 Keese and 5 Beamos’
nd -5 Bubbles, 5 Fire Keese, 5 Slugs and 2 Dodongos
rd – 4 Gibdos and a Poe
th – Many Chus and Many Undead Rats
th – 5 Ice Keese and a Giant Freezard
th – 4 Ice Warriors
th – 10 Leevers and 5 Bubbles
th – 4 Ice Warriors, 3 Ice Keese, 3 Bubbles and 2 Giant Freezards
th – 2 Dark Nuts
th – 4th Great Fairy. Okay, these floors are significantly harder, culminating with your first 1 on 2 Dark Nut match (it gets better later). Shoot the Beamos Statues with Arrows (or Ball / Chain if you’re low on arrows). More Gibdos and undead rats so keep Wolf Link out for a while. More Ball and Chain use with the Ice Warriors and Freezards (remember the Freezards destroy into four little freezards). On 38 you’ll definitely want the Magic Armor on so that you can clear the Ice Warriors who throw spears and Spin attacks the keese / Bubbles. With the Dark Nuts, dodge their attacks and then start ripping them apart. Obviously the key is dodging the other Dark Nut when you’re working on one of them. Keep your eye out for that, and for when the one you are beating on recovers. Utilize your speed and jump backs and side jumps.
st – 9 Armos Knights
nd -6 Deku Babas and 6 Bokoblins
rd – 8 Bokoblin Archers and 5 Lizalfos
th – 4 Dinolfols and a Poe
th – Many Chus, 2 Bokoblin Archers and 5 Gibdos
th – 3 Ice Warriors, 2 Freezards and many Undead Rats
th – 1 Bokoblin, many rats and many Mini-Stalfos
th – 1 Dark Nut and 2 Dragon Knights
th – 3 Dark Nuts
th – 5th and final Great Fairy. Wow, good luck. Ball and Chain the Armos Knights in the back and elude their explosion. When encounter archers, of course shoot them down with arrows from afar when applicable. The Dinolfols will annoy you with their defensive tendencies but just block their attacks and counter – separate them as best you can – spin attacks can help at first. Ignore the Chus at first and kill the Gibdos immediately or at least clear some room for you from the Gibdoes. 46 can be a real pain, so kill the Ice Warriors with a Ball and Chain fast but you’ll likely need to do charge attacks with your senses on to clear space. 47 is basically a gimme but 48 is frustrating until no end. You would think going after the Dark Nut first would work best. At first it did for me but once his armor was gone and he became more agile I found myself unable to get through his defenses and when the opportunity was there the Dragon Knights never allowed me ample time to do anything. So, try to stay away from the Dark Nut and Clawshot the Dragon Knights when they’re about to attack. Get them out of the picture as fast as you can and then it’s just a Dark Nut. Now the three Dark Nut battle is just brute force. I don’t know what to say other than dodge left, right, behind and most importantly on time. And hopefully you have some restorative things at this point.
