Before we begin our adventure, understand that not only have we changed from Liu Bei’s army to Yuan Shao’s, there are many gameplay changes! Battle is now different. No longer are there tacticians – you still earn tactical points at level up, but each general learns tactics relevant to their class. Wen Chou learns Duel, Chen Lin learns Heal, etc. Status icons have been added to show which characters are have a buff (Bei Ji) or affliction (Li Jian/Mislead). Classes help define the characters statistically as well and what they can equip and in terms of their abilities. There are many other changes as well and will delve into them as we go further along.
Ye Castle
First we begin our game in Lou Sang Village. Hear the old man out and you’ll see you are joined by Yan Liang the Warrior and Wen Chou the Champion. Everyone comes pre-equipped. Speak with the villager just outside to get some Gold and Food, and then talk to the others. The old wise men standing next to each other will give you some hints about the new gameplay. One interesting note mentioned; you can use the Plan command (formerly Defend) to restore TP in battle! This is a huge help but keep in mind the amount of TP restored is based on the intelligence of the officer doing it (so having Wen Chou use “Plan” is less than ideal). When you are ready, head out and go east to Ye Castle.
Wow, check out how cool this city now looks. You hear about Wei Jun Castle to the north, sounds like the Yellow Turbans have taken up a base there. The house just west as you enter has Chen Lin. He comes with no items but he will quickly learn the Heal and HealAll tactics which are crucial to have. Check out the rest of the place and talk to He Jin in the castle. Grab some stuff at the Weapon Shop – I got some Bandanas.

Spend some time outside going up a level or two. I got a Dao for Yuan Shao and he now is attacking three times at a beastly amount. You will notice that the Plan ability allows you to not need the Inn as often which is nice. After you have gained a level or two, head south and you will be ambushed by Bo Cai and some Yellow Turban forces. This battle shouldn’t be too hard, just gang up on Bo Cai early on and then it should be a rout. He gives you some directional advice upon defeat and this opens up access to a large area of land to the south and southeast. Not much to do however as you will come across a gate that leads to Dong Zhuo’s area, although like the original DoaE, you cannot continue onward here currently.
Back to the north and continue further east to encounter Zhang Liang in a forced field battle. He will use Cleave which is a good ability that Yan Liang has (which you should be using on Zhang Liang in return). You can use Flame or Duel on him as well. After a few turns you should have Zhang Liang defeated.

Mt. DA Xing
Victory in the Zhang Liang battle opens up a path to the east. You’ll come to a split which results in a cave to the south in the mountains and a long path to the northeast that leads to Zhang Bao. For now, head back to Ye and buy some new armor/weapons if needed and rest. Then make the trip to the far northeast to reach Zhang Bao’s compound. He is waiting there with He Yi and some Yellow Turban forces. Zhang Bao’s main attack will be Flame. Plan to have Yan Liang use Cleave on He Yi and gang up on him to route him right away. Yuan Shao can use his huge force and Dao to attack Zhang Bao. Should be an easy victory.

Head into Mt. Da Xing and talk to the villagers. You’ll notice someone unique at the north end – this is Han Meng. He is a weak little guy statistically but has Arrows and BullsEye abilities. Grab the Ax in the center tent and give it to Yan Liang or Wen Chou.
Returning back to the Ye area to rest up and then head towards that cave. Upon entering, take the southeast path for Chariots. Head to the far west now and then south across the bridge to the stairs. East here and you’ll come across a Dao. No one can equip this right now other than Yuan Shao but if you didn’t get one, you get it for free here. Continue along this path as it wraps to the southwest and to a new staircase. Continuing along and you will see an Ax which you can give to either Wen Chou or Yan Liang. Take the staircase to the south and you’ll be back on the world map.

Mt. Tie Men Xia
Head south here and make sure you are rested up as you get closer to where it winds west, because before you can get to the gate you will encounter Zhang Jue. He is with Huang Shao and Liu Pi. If you have the Sandbags ability you might want to use it to protect against his Flood ability. Han Meng can use Arrows to attack everyone, and Yan Liang can use Cleave on one of the lesser generals to greatly decrease their soldier count. Wen Chou can duel these guys, they will reject likely but they will be in Doubt status if they do which is nice. The enemies will use some tactics that will lessen your attack as well Douse to help lessen Flame damage. Stay healed and continue to use Plan to make sure you have the TP to stay in it. Once Zhang Jue is out you will roll over the rest.
Go ahead and enter Tie Men Xia (no worries as you won’t fight a gate battle here). Enter the first building and grab the Leather. Talk to the folks and you’ll hear that the Yellow Turban army is now at Wei Jun Castle, and that He Jin cleared a path to this castle. Interesting. Leave and make your way back through the cave and to the beginning, and indeed you will see there is a yellow brick road carved through the mountains going to Wei Jun. Before this though, head back to Ye and rest. You will also come across Liu Pi likely, and will notice you can recruit him. He is a Sentinel class which means he is very quick. He can also equip that extra Dao you received, so give that to him. He is probably worth using over Han Meng now.

Wei Jun Castle
When you think you are ready, head north to Wei Jun castle. You’ll see a little village and no way to get to the castle – once you go to the village you will encounter the turbans. Zhang Jue is here with his brothers Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang, as well as Huang Shao and He Yi. This could be tough. Sandbags and Douse will help protect you against water and fire tactics respectively. They can use Douse also to lessen your Flame damage. Starting off, Wen Chou dueled Zhang Liang and took him out in turn 1 which was splendid. Then focus on Zhang Jue to take him out since his Flood attack on everyone is nasty. Make sure Chen Lin keeps everyone healed and you should be okay.
Enter the village after, neat little place here. You’ll see Yuan Shu and Cao Cao in a building talking about sending forces to attack Dong Zhuo now. Seems you’ll have to find a new way back home because the path through to Wei Jun collapsed! Rest up before you leave. You won’t be able to enter the castle here FYI – you’ll see the bridge is just short.
A cave is in the area that once was a brick path, so enter it. To the southwest is a chest with 238 coins. Continue southeast for a bit and eventually you’ll see another chest west of you; it is a Cap. Nice little upgrade. Leave to the south and you’ll be out of the cave, and guess what? You can’t re-enter. Oh well. Return back to Ye Castle.

One of the villagers in Ye says the Zhang bros are still at Wei Jun, he must not have got the update. Head to the throne area and He Jin will be in bed, poisoned. He wants you to take over the Han Dynasty – if you say no, he’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse. Well then, now he can chill.
Yuan Shao now sits on the throne; we’ll definitely miss him. But the chair is comfy and he has pretty maids. Ironically enough, the messenger says that Dong Zhuo has the Emperor’s ladies and that’s not right. Sounds like a double-standard to me. Talk to the fellow to the south and looks like Yuan Tan is here to be the new leader as while his overall stats don’t compare to Yuan Shao, he does have a high LDR stat. Be sure to have him equip the items that Yuan Shao once had because they are all unequipped (he can equip the Dao sword).
