Final Fantasy VI New World
Deserted Island
The new world is dark, with a red sky and red water. Celes is lying in bed on a desert island, with Cid walking around. Seemingly they are the only two around. Celes wakes up from what was evidently a really long nap. Cid is there to greet here and says he hasn’t ate in 3 days. He took care of you so now you’re going to have to get him some fish.
Go south and you’ll be at the beach. You’ll see all kinds of fish, some moving fast, others not. You want the fast-moving fish ideally. If there isn’t a fast fish I probably would just not get one and go back to Cid to refresh the fish in the lake. It’ll take about 8-10 good fish to get him better, otherwise he dies. The result is the same either way, with Celes ending up by Albrook. She either does it by raft (if you kept Cid alive) or jumps off a nearby cliff (if Cid died).
Albrook / Tzen
Not much to do in Albrook other than learn about the new world. Lots of new monsters are around, great. North of Albrook is Kefka’s Tower, which can only be reached with an airship (and you have a raft).
North of Kefka’s Tower though is Tzen, and when you walk in a house will start to fall apart! Everyone will panic and further north is Sabin! He’s holding the house up so you have to get in and save the child. There are monsters here so be careful, probably want to run from them. Having a Ribbon is key as you can get Stoned around here. I suggest fighting each monster once so that they are on the Veldt but running after you see them once.
Directly north is a Heal Rod, and then go west a little and south into another room for a Pearl Rod. South a little more and west for a Hyper Wrist, and then north for a Monster-In-A-Box. Use Ice 2 on them and they’re dead, and then go north and grab the Tincture. Go downstairs now and then west and south. A Drainer will be in here, and then go north. Another Monster-in-a-box with four PM Stalkers, easy Ice 2 kills. Further east for a Magicite and return west a little for the kid. That should be it, so head out with plenty of time (fight up if you’d like).
The house collapses but all is well. Sabin and Celes know it’s time to find everyone else, so rest up and head east towards Tzen. Hopefully you built these two up a little bit, they’re generally two of the more popular characters anyway. If you have Sabin with Air Blade, that will carry you through the next part of the game.
Mobliz
Mobliz is far to the east and a little north, a long walk indeed. It’s optional, but you can see Terra. When you get there, dogs will bark at you and a kid runs out, follow where he came out of and you’ll find a group of kids and Terra comes by. Talk to everyone and try to leave, but Phunbaba will come! He was one of the demon’s released when the world turned to ruin.
Terra gets to fight him, but she cannot win. Instead, Sabin and Celes fight him. He is weak against poison, and Suplex works well also. Keep your HP up, he has some high-level Bolt spells and Blow Fish (1000 damage). After you get him to retreat, you’ll be talking to Terra who “can’t help you obviously”. Leave and a kid will give you the Fenrir esper, useful for learning X-Zone. Now prepare for another really really long walk, this time south, west, and then northwest to Nikeah.
Nikeah / South Figaro
Nikeah is on the other edge of the coast to Mobliz. Get a few Enhancers and as much Diamond armor as you can get. Go to the Cafe and talk to all the thieves until they leave. Then go north and you’ll see what looks like Edgar. Evidently it’s Gerad though. Hmm. Talk to him and he’ll deny he knows you, so walk south and he’ll follow you. He stops and looks at a bundle of oranges and nods his head constantly. Talk to him and he’ll say he has things to do. Keep following and talking to him and Celes will sort of catch him in a lie although he still doesn’t admit his identity.
Gerad and his group of thieves are sneaking into Figaro Castle, and Celes jumps onto the boat that they are on. This takes them to South Figaro, where you can buy even better armor (DiamondArmor). Go to the Inn and rest and then go to the east room in the Inn. Gerad is there and he’s to the cave west of this town, so go there.
South Figaro Cave
This should be familiar. You’ll see Ziegfried right away, but just make your way to where the TunnelArmr / Recovery Pond is. The thieves will jump on the turtle to get across and that’ll be the way in. Everyone follows including Ziegfried. In this new area, all the treasures will be gone and Ziegfried will run away. Keep going west to Figaro Castle though.
Inside Gerad will check a Figaro soldier, more evidence that it is Edgar. Go west where you normally couldn’t (because that old man would block you) and you’ll be in an area with tougher monsters. Everyone says “I…It was awful” for some reason. Keep taking the south exits around here and you’ll see four treasures. They are a Crystal Helm, X-Potion, Gravity Rod and an Ether. Take the far west door to go up a floor to get a Regal Crown, great headwear for Edgar / Sabin. Give it to Sabin right now, rest up, and take the center path. You’ll see “Gerad” again, but this time he’ll ask for your help against this boss.
You three will be in a fight against four tentacles. Each has an elemental weakness / strength, but if you have Air Blade that works on all of them. Stick to using the Drill on these to ensure it works (instead of the instant kill by Chain Saw that never works). These tentacles will use abilities that will make you slow, and then they’ll try to grasp you, where they can constantly drain your HP. This is not good, so use Haste to keep ahead of them. Gang up on one to get rid of the advantage they have, and eventually they go down. The party hides from the thieves, but you can go back in and search the statue for a Soul Sabre. Leave now and Figaro will surface.
Don’t leave yet, go north and talk to the Tool Shop guy to buy a Debilitator. This gives enemies a weakness. Now go back to the old guy and he’ll take you to Kohlingen.
Kohlingen / Daryl’s Tomb
So what to do here? Well go to the pub and talk to Setzer. After a little convincing, he’ll join. He knows of where a second airship is, at Daryl’s Tomb. Might want to check the supply shops to make sure everyone is up to date, I had Setzer, Edgar and Sabin already leveled up pretty good in World One so I was okay.
Enter and take the southwest passage and get the Crystal Mail. Downstairs and get the Czarina Gown, and then walk through the right wall to get an Exp. Egg, a great tool for catching characters up (doubles EXP). Go north and hit the switch, then return to the center room. The southeast room has a Genji Helmet, the best Helmet in the game. North of this is another tombstone which you should search, and then go north to hit another switch.
Return to the center room now, where you can ride a turtle twice to get to a new area thanks to the water level being raised. Go straight north and get the Man Eater in the northeast and then rest / save. The chest next to the Save Point is a boss, the Presenter, and he’s difficult. Remember Whelk a long time ago? Don’t hit the shell, just hit the head. It’ll sometimes hide, but just rest up then. You can also use Break for an instant kill sometimes. He has several bolt attacks including Giga Volt, a powerful attack worth resting up for. Your reward for his defeat is a Dragon Claw, a very good weapon for Sabin.
Rest and save and go further north and search the large purple structure. A battle with Dullahan will ensue. He is weak against fire, so use Fire 2 if you can. Drill / Chain Saw work well as do Sabin’s Blitzes. Dullahan can cast Absolute O, N Cross and Ice 3. Make sure you are rested, he’s probably tougher than your last boss. When he dies, a switch will go off and you can go north.
You’ll see some scenes of Daryl and Setzer flying around. Eventually you’ll get to the basement where the Falcon is and you’ll be ready to fly off! The party agrees that although they can attack Kefka, they’re better suited to find their friends first. A pigeon flies by and makes it’s way to Maranda. But really, you can go anywhere you want now.
