ParticipantMyself I liked Suikoden 1 for being so short and more or less straight to the point. However I’m near the end of Suikoden 3 and it’s currently residing in my need to finish up pile.

ParticipantSuikoden 3 is the only one I have yet to play. 4 story was meh, but that’s why they made Suikoden Tactics to make up for it.

KeymasterBetween those two is splitting hairs. Like Kain says, I like that S1 is so short yet has a decent amount of content. It’s fun to be able to play through the game over a weekend or something, and it’s replay value is so high with all the available characters. Though I usually build my parties around Tai Ho / Yam Koo or Varkas / Sydonia for their unites.
S3 is great but there are a lot of times where I feel like it drags on especially with all the traveling on ground throughout. But it’s so much more deep than S1 especially with all the Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 stuff, and then Thomas’ quests to go with the main trinity sight system.

I liked how some characters risked death upon defeat, though I did get frustrated having to redo a few battles do to my desire to have all the characters at the end.

ModeratorBetter than 4, sure, but that doesn’t say much.
I started it several months ago. Something about it just feels unbalanced – certain characters are all-round better, which precludes having a set you just "like". Risk is high. I think at least 5 times I had a character die and started over even though I thought nobody could reach them where they were. I liked how it hooked into Suikoden 4 as a side-story, since the characters were one of 4’s redeeming factors, and I liked where it was going, but so many damn maps were just unrelated to the plot entirely.
It’s sort of… "Oh no, it’s bandits! Just like the last 3 times! Maybe this time you’ll get a cutscene afterwards… if you’re lucky."
The music was good, though. I wish they’d put more than 25 minutes on the packaged soundtrack CD.

I agree completely with you on that.

ParticipantThey could’ve left out the soundtrack and added a good game, that would’ve been sweet.

Why? Because he was the first furry in Suikoden history?
