Keymaster…..
Xaigoth, Huo Hu is like a God here. Can't say things like I hate Huo Hu on here, that is more apt to be censored than swearing.

ParticipantOh no, my powder!
In the unmodified version, Huo Hu's the best strategist until you can capture and recruit Li Ru. If you're not patient enough to find Li Ru, he's the best until Xu Zhe. Granted, it's been a while since I breezed through the unmodified version, so this is all: if I recall correctly.
The guy I always wanted on my team was Jia Xu.

KeymasterQuote:The guy I always wanted on my team was Jia Xu.Yep. Me too. ~60 more soldiers than Li Ru and like +18 more INT.

He's deceptively good. Not sure his stats off the top of my head but pretty sure he's both stronger + smarter than Huo Hu, not to mention 389 soldiers to Huo Hu's 256. (Cai Yong is maybe 125 STR 185 INT? Something like that)

ParticipantYou're totally right about Cai Yong, but he's outclassed by Li Ru in the two points that matter: time of recruitment and Int score. If Cai Yong has a much higher agility, that would be something, as it would free up Chi Tu Ma, but I don't know agility scores off the top of my head.
Once I learned the relationships between the characters book-wise, I always thought it was bizarre that the son-in-law to Dong Zhuo would have no problem joining, whereas an under-utilized tactician would repeatedly deny recruitment. Oh well.

Participantahh but i get liru to easily for it to matter and i think that mi zhu is a better tactician but i'll go check that
June 19, 2011 at 4:24 pm #14502Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterMi Zhu is bad for that part in the game. 161 INT I think.
Anyway, tale of the tape for Li Ru vs. Cai Yong:
Cai Yong – 117 – 180 – 100 – 380 soldiers
Li Ru – 18 – 200 – 100 – 362 soldiers (can be recruited 4 gates earlier)
Obviously if you can get Li Ru first, you definitely do it. I just like Cai Yong's reasonable physical attacks (rather have 19 damage with the Ax each turn than 1 or 2). Makes regular battles go faster and creates a more versatile character for boss battles. Even though his INT is 20 points lower, at 180, it's still plenty high to scorch Fen Chou, Dong Min, Zhang Ji, Lu Bu, + Dong Zhuo at the end of that area (and then go into Yuan Shu's land, where there aren't any formidable tacticians until the last battle).
Also one very interesting thing I just remembered, that I'm sure most people aren't aware of with DoaE….James at Kongming put out something a while back detailing how STR correlates with magic power. This is why you'll notice Guan Yu do a lot more damage than Li Ru with Ye Huo, Shui Xing, etc. The INT just correlates with success rate for any given tactic. So not only is Li Ru's 18 STR annoying with his physical attacks but it limits his spell damage. That said he still takes off a fair amount and considering his 200 INT is tops until you get Xu Zhe, still a worthwhile character through the Dong Zhuo section.

Participantokay in my mod i have this
charlie barkin- 250str,255int,235agi,zhangefei lvl up
humphrey- 250str,255int,255agi,zhaoyun/machao lvl up
charlie does more damage with tactics and heals more health? why?
June 19, 2011 at 4:37 pm #14504Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterWell if their STR + INT are the same, it should be the same rate. They might perform differently in a small sample size with magic attack power, but their rate would be the same (and over time if you documented the #'s they would probably be similar, but still not the same because of luck / chance).
Nice balanced stats by the way lol. They're going to dominate.
One thing worth noting is that AGI isn't really working that well with the Editor. You can change the number but it doesn't really effect it. I noticed with the Yuan Shu mod, because I put Ji Ling in Zhao Yun's spot. Put his agility at 230 or something, and he would STILL attack last. Even worse, sometimes you break the agility for a character and they will attack after the rebel / bandit / brigand forces!. Not really sure what causes that though.

Participantodd for some reason they both go before everyone else maybe its position in the line up?
June 19, 2011 at 5:09 pm #14506soibla
ParticipantI think the agility breaking has something to do with unbilletable (not a real word, I know) characters like Guan Yu, Zhang Fei and Huang Zhong, as they seem to be the ones that break when I play mods.
