ModeratorUnfortunately, you weren't here yet when I considered a sengoku mod.

ModeratorHey guys,
since ROM expansion seems to be a hot topic, I've added it as a full feature in DoaEditor. It takes care of all of the work (aside from inserting new portraits and/or sprites).
To expand the ROM, go to File -> Expand ROM, when you have an un-expanded ROM open.
I have tested the ROM in FCEU, and did a raw comparison with/without portrait and sprite features. What I haven't tried (and what I'd like you all to try!) is adding portraits in these extra banks and testing the nifty portrait preview feature.

ParticipantGreat Niahak, expanding ROM now is much more easier for all of us.
Since I'm no portrait expert, I guess I'm leaving the work of adding more portraits for MidKnight and DragonAtma.
DoaE gave birth to Huo Hu.

ModeratorWoo! Thanks Niahak!

Question: Did you add the portrait and sprite expansion code when you expanded the ROM? If so I'll update the guide to have that as the preferred method.

ModeratorYep, portrait and sprite expansion code are in. Both are optional, although I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want them.

EDIT: I see that you had the smarts to set the portrait bank to 0 if it wasn't set to one of the other bank values. Good move. Was going to either suggest that or make my code more restrictive.

ModeratorNiahak, the portraits arent pulling the pictures into the game correctly. For example Bank 0 with values 3C 3D 3E 3F 40 41 is Yuan Shu, however, when I switch it to Bank 1 it is my custom portrait in the editor. Problem is, in-game it is still Yuan Shu and not my custom portrait. Something must not be right with the pointers on the export process?

ModeratorDid you save your general after you switched portraits?
November 1, 2011 at 9:27 pm #27080sonic.penguin
Moderatoryep, and they all show up as the portraits that are in bank 0.
November 1, 2011 at 9:29 pm #27081Niahak
ModeratorHm. I tested this, and it looks like there is a bug, but only switching TO bank 0. I don't see any issues switching from bank 0 to 1.
I'll have a re-release once you can confirm the status of the issue.

ModeratorDarn. you posted while I did.
When you re-load the ROM in DoaEd, do they show up as bank 0 or bank N initially?
Did you choose "Yes" to both dialog boxes when you expanded the ROM?

here is the link, download it and try replacing Liu Bei with another portrait from Bank 1 then save, output, then look at it in game.
Actually midknight expanded the rom via the hex editor. The portraits read in the DOAEditor properly, just dont import into the game.
