I can
October 19, 2007 at 4:40 am #26726NiahakModeratorPMed you at SOSZ. I’ll add the entire soldier list for the next release, thanks!
All the tables are reloaded on restart, in the version I IMed you it’ll more gracefully error (giving you an "unknown value" in the list rather than crashing).
October 19, 2007 at 10:01 pm #26727NiahakModeratorNew version of the program is out!
Version 0.2 fixes a sizable parsing error and brings in the Pirate. Also has a spiffy logo! Thanks to James for helping me figure out the error of my finite-state-machine-parsing ways.

You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby
October 20, 2007 at 3:31 am #26730NiahakModeratorThat’s rather strange. The new system should be more robust, since it uses pointers and not a FSM to find the officer locations.
If you saved a file with the old editor, then reopened it in the old one, I could see it creating problems… but I’m not sure what might’ve caused the one you ran into. I’ll do a bit of testing and see what I can find, sorry about that!
What all did you do to the ROM (i.e. did you make it with the old version first, what kind of values did you change, etc)?

What problems would that cause?
Shouldn
October 20, 2007 at 4:08 am #26732NiahakModeratorYes, it definitely should – but I’m trying to cover all the bases just to make sure.
I really have no idea what would cause this…
/edit: Ah-ha! It looks like it might’ve been the borked name size that cropped up in an interim version. That would do it. If name size is reported as being too small (like the Sima Yi problem you mentioned, James) then it wouldn’t know how many FFs to put at the end of an officer.
Name sizes are fixed now: new version up for download here.
It includes a few fixes, a couple tweaks. The drop-down lists don’t sort as they should, but I’m working on that for a future release. I’m probably done for the night.
CCG: If you want me to see if I can repair your game, I can take a look tomorrow. It’s probably an offset issue in a place or two… depending on how many officers you renamed.
October 20, 2007 at 4:20 am #26733CommieCatGirlParticipantIt’s okay, that hack was really just me screwing around.

October 21, 2007 at 8:04 pm #26734NiahakModeratorJames: On your sprite-sheet site (say that 10 times fast) , you have the value 21 listed as both Padded Villager and Zhu Zhi. Which one is it? I’m planning to incorporate the sprite-sheet in today, if I can.
Tonight I’m going to expand on my Wei mod using the program to test and make sure it’s working properly. Then I’ll write up some documentation for new users, and probably implement an auto-save function.
October 22, 2007 at 12:51 am #26735NiahakModeratorSo far, so good.
The man himself. I gave him a portrait with Huo Hu’s shifty-eyed look as well as a full beard. I might give a bit of tile editing a try and modify Liu Bei’s portrait for him :) So far as I know, though, no other officer has this combination of features and a white background (giving Cao Cao a nifty purplish-and-red robe, which fits him).
Chen Deng’s received a bit of a boost, but I haven’t decided whether or not to give him leveling.
Cao Cao has several good generals starting off, though none are fantastic. Cao Ren and Hong have 230 and 215 strength respectively – I’ll probably tone them down a bit. Ren’s somewhat more intelligent – a bit less than Guan Yu as is.
Yue Jin and Li Dian replaced the Songs, as there was really no place else to put them. Yue Jin’s a mid-range fighter with decent INT, Li Dian has a bit more INT but less strength and less soldiers.
All 4 starting generals level right now, so I’m going to have to turn the difficulty on the YTs up a bit.
Also, now the editor has sprite-picking. It’s working better than I thought it would, actually – but no coloration yet.
October 22, 2007 at 1:25 am #26736Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterAwesome, I like the Cao Cao avatar. And the Wei group in general.
So many kick ass mods can be created for DoaE now…

It must be Zhu Zhi. All the regular officers are showing up in that range.
And I got the chick again down where she belongs.
Congratulations so far on the Cao Cao edit! Looks great!
October 25, 2007 at 7:01 am #26738Xian Zhu XuandeParticipantWell, I figured out how to move starting points for character entries. All of those values are stored starting at 32610. I’m not sure what the first space is for because it doesn’t seem to correspond to an officer.If you edit the fifth value, 54, you edit the fourth listed ”officer”, the Rebel Force. If you change it to 55, the game starts gathering data for the Rebel Force starting one value later than it would have previously (thus, when you go into battle, the sprite and other values have changed, and the character is called ”ebel Force”). With a program and all the values edited in this could be a viable method for fully editing all officers. Without a program it simply provides us with means to take characters from nearby officers and lend them to a neighbor (e.g. take a free space from Xiahou Dun’s name and give it to someone close by editing only a few extra values). Still, we’d have to index that list.’);
October 25, 2007 at 12:18 pm #26739NiahakModeratorThis sounds like something my program should be able to do with a bit of work. Complicated, but it may be a project for the weekend.
