ModeratorI REALLY like it, and think this has good potential. The AP and DP are somewhat useful. I mostly use the soldier counts and refer back to the generals tab, but comparison-wise, it is nice to see how your line-up stacks up overall. It does seem crowded but I definitely like how it is ALL in one place.
On the map screen, does it still read X then Y, while on this one it is Y then X?
I would not remove the exact coordinates as some locations need to be placed where you currently cannot place things ie; Si Shui gate for example.
Also I did notice while going through chapters, that some are marked as 71, not 77, yet they both point to chapter 7… others are like this as well. Kind of like the battle taunts section

ModeratorAll right, I'll plan on going with a variant of the above, then.
I do have one other question regarding battle taunts. How do you want the selection box for them to be generated? Any normal line of dialogue can potentially be a battle-taunt (although obviously most won't be), but I don't want to just bog down the selection box with a bunch of townsperson dialogue. Nor do I want to restrict people if they choose to add more closers. Right now, it just sucks in all ones used for opener/closer dialogue, but that doesn't allow for expansion and if you leave one unused, it'll disappear from the selection options.
Can you expand a bit on the 71/77 issue? Is this the region that they're denoted as in the Maps section? It could be that we don't understand something about it…

ModeratorThere is actually a number of "unused" lines in the game that are modifiable "ie: Dong Zhuo ended his 54 years on the end of sword" is one that comes to mind. Another is "I am the emperor and yet you side against me" or "Guan Yu! Everybody, kill him!" there are others though. Also since in my mod I am rearranging towns/events, there is lots of unused "townspeople" dialog that I am essentially now able to use since events "erase" the people by the time a player reaches those modified town.
So to answer your question, all dialog would be a good thing.
The 71, 77 issue both refer to chapter 7 (Wu) and once changed to another chapter, the game still functions, but you might want to find out more details to see if it bugs something. I have changed it to 44 for testing, and it works just fine.

Try something like that.

ModeratorHow'd you get a pre-release version of this Atma? :crybaby:
Anyways, that does appear to be a better variation, a little bit better use of space. Is the text editable in both the text menu and battle menu?
Also, just out of curiosity, does the tactable that comes w/ doaeditor have a distinguish between the two "none" options. only (01) of the "none" options actually means no tactics. The other doesnt work like that, yet doeaditor always selects option 00 if both are labeled as 'none'.
I renamed it in mine, but you might want to think about clarifying it.
I have this issue also w/ two generals w/ the same name. I often have to label them, for example, Zhang Liao and Zhang Liao1, otherwise, the battle menu selects wierdly. Once I put the one in I want, I go back to the officer tab and change their name back to normal.

Moderator(Psst: that's a mockup made in Paint, not a pre-release; it only becomes official if Niahak says so, and even if it does, the graphics'll line up better than that)

ModeratorI haven't actually been able to find a way to make a combo-box multi-line (unfortunately)… I did find a way to squeeze in a bit more real-estate for it so I'm a bit happier with it.
re: your concerns, sonic penguin…
The tactable probably does load both values, but it may always use the same one for "None" (for the same reason it uses the same hex value for certain generals that actually have two or three markers where their name is used). What's the 0x00 option for tactics mean? I can just update my table next time I release.
The Generals with the same name bit… that's a consequence of using the controls the way I am. I might be able to find a way to handle that stuff better.

ModeratorBoth 00 and 01 in tactable are marked as "none" for tactic use, but only 01 is the "none" that truly means no tactics in game. If you mark the 00 option of "none" then officers for some reason retain their tactics.

ModeratorNo multiline? No problem!

EDIT: Why not store generals by index number instead of name? Then it'll properly distinguish Lu Bu from treacherous Lu Bu from 7003 Lu Bu.

ModeratorI think one of the text banks is overflowing into other parts of the mod and thus borking the game whenever a battle command commences… I've lost two days worth of modding that was simply text edits. It's somewhere around the center/end of the list so I'm guessing bank 2
edit: I think I found it, it seems whenever I edit the guy that sells keys… I think I had this issue before when editing that guy.

ModeratorDOAEditor crashes when quick-searching in the text editor. IE: I press W to find things that begin w/ that letter
May 24, 2012 at 10:00 pm #27276Niahak
ModeratorUh, oops.
I'll look into that when I pick it back up again… should be tonight or tomorrow.
Is there a message with the crash? I can't seem to reproduce it on my machine.

ModeratorProposed UI for next additions:

Thanks DA for the UI suggestions. I just reduced the Tile/Region labels a bit and scrunched them together a bit more, and I was able to fit everything in with a bit more room.
Will also consider the general indexing thing. It shouldn't be too bad, actually… I'm just not sure I like the way it will look.

ModeratorJust held down the W key until it crashed, heh. For some reason on Windows it doesnt pull up the debug menu like it did on XP.
May 24, 2012 at 11:14 pm #27279Niahak
ModeratorOK. I tried reproducing it again, but no dice… I changed how the line listings work so that I could reuse the same structures in the Text tab and Battle taunts/closers, so it may already be fixed.
It's been a little unstable (I also switched programming environment and some screen layouts) so I'm not sure about a release yet… if I do make a release, it'll come with lots of warning labels. But when I do make a release, I'll put in some handling for that error to log it in more detail.
