ParticipantWell, I went back to Chengdu and found a second Scimitar there. Is that what you were talking about? I also found the "surprise/joke" treasure in Liu Shan’s area. If the Scimitar is the treasure, I’ll submit a screenshot to KMA.

ParticipantWell, I went back to Chengdu and found a second Scimitar there. Is that what you were talking about being the ‘present’ before going into Wu (I think it was #35 on your list)? I also found the "surprise/joke" treasure in Liu Shan’s area (damn dagger…where’s my sword). Actually I have found all of the swords now and the Longji :-) so all is good. If the Scimitar is the Shu treasure, I’ll submit a screenshot to KMA.
Just a question about the Liu Shan area. Is Liu Shan really supposed to be that weak? On all the battles between the Guan Yu/Zhang Fei fight and the 2nd Runan battle, all I had to do was An Sha everyone (except Liu Shan since even though he’s a pansy apparently he can’t be An Shaed) and All-out on Liu Shan and/or the Rebels.
I’ve just beaten Runan and the first gate on the other side of the cave, and really I think the toughest battle so far has been the first one in Wei (the Guan Yu/Zhang Fei one). I haven’t tried the second fight with Zhuge Liang yet but I have a few ideas as to what I’m going to do. I am almost thinking it will be easiest to An Sha all of his supporting generals and then take out Zhuge. He doesn’t have Revive in this one which makes it oh so much nicer. It should still be tough though. We’ll see how it goes.

ParticipantYeah, Liu Shan is a bit of a joke. He’s over powered even as is. Haha…
So those battles are going to be easier than you might remember.
Do give detailed feedback on the Zhuge Liang battles, though. Actually, feedback for the whole region is very welcome. Wu seems pretty well balanced and peppered with some challenges and a few alternate strategies to overcome them, but Wei/Zhuge land can probably benefit from some tweaking.
Thanks for your feedback!
And yep, looks like you’ve found a few good hidden items. I’m trying to decide if I want to post all of the locations, or if I just want to let members uncover them based on clues and hints when they play. Not sure…

ParticipantWell, I just finished the game! Wow, was that not easy! :-) The final castle was a major bitch. I would say that anything from the first Zhuge fight on is hard enough in difficulty (although the gate right after the 2nd Wei cave wasn’t that hard).
For the first Zhuge fight I used Thwart, Zeal and power pills to win and for the final two Zhuge battles I used Behead to eliminate supporting officers and then whittled away at Zhuge using regular attacks and power pills. I also found the second Longji and that helped out a bit.
For Pang Tong, and the 5 tigers (minus Ma Chao) fight I used Thwart, Zeal, and power pills.
The final castle was the hardest by far (I guess that’s how it’s supposed to be though). I got through them all but it definitely wasn’t easy! I still want to max out my levels (I’ve never actually done the level 51 thing – I always just used up the free level up when I played the game before) but I’ll probably do that later (I have 2 or 3 levels to go). I think I might go back and play the original game now just for a break! It should be a freakin’ cakewalk!
One note on the final battle. Is there a way you could cut down on the enemy banter in the first phase? I don’t remember nearly that much in the original game (of couse there weren’t 5 generals either so they may have talked every turn) and it got REALLY annoying by the time the battle was over. Is there a way to cut the enemy banter down to say 25% or 30% of what it is now? If there’s no way to change it I guess it’s ok but it’d be nice if it was a bit less.

ParticipantGood to hear. Others have said that the difficulty is right around where it belongs through the final battles. Unfortunately there’s no way to cut down on the banter in the battle before the final fight. That would be hard-coded into the ROM. I can probably remove the confirmation requirements, though, so the text just floats by and is readable only when you’re trying to read it. I’ll look at that.
If you can hit level 50 please help me with something.
1) Save your game.
2) Go straight to the sage.
3) Record your experience is before talking to him.
4) Get your level (or levels).
5) Record what level you wound up on.
6) Record your experience after talking to him.
7) Share with me the data you’ve recorded!
If you’re willing, don’t save your game. There’s a level-up problem with the sage that has granted people multiple level-ups and I’m wondering how I might solve it. I could remove level 51 from the game, but that kinda sucks. I’m going to have to do some more testing to solve this.

ParticipantIt may take some time, but I’ll work on it. I’m not super motivated at the moment to grind out levels but I may do some of that today…we’ll see. I’ll let you know what I find out.

ParticipantNo worries either way. Thanks for the feedback you’ve given!
I always grind out those levels using the emulator’s speedup options. If you set it to something like 300% the battles go by quickly. I should also note that I keep the ROM at normal speed and assign speedup to a button so I can use it when I want to and go regular speed when I need to.

ParticipantWell, I did make it to level 50 today and here is what happened when I went to the sage.
EXP before: 1502414
EXP after: 1799998
Level after: 53
Hopefully this helps you out some. I didn’t save it after the sage, so let me know if you need me to try anything else.

ParticipantThanks! You answered the most important question. I’ll see if there’s anything I can do about people hitting level 53. How many soldiers did the people in your party wind up with?
April 12, 2009 at 12:47 am #29810Timbuki
ParticipantDeng Ai: 45899
Lu Bu: 48704
Cao Pi: 47332
Zhang Liao: 46481
Xiahou Ba: 41492
Pang De: 39144
Sima Yi: 36552
It looks like every general increased their troop count by an even 6000 from level 50.

ParticipantHuh… that could be much much worse.
I suppose it might always be possible to actually allow level 53 to exist…
