ModeratorDid some more testing and things are looking pretty good. So here goes:
DOAE Artificial Intelligence Enhancements + New Tactic (Charge)
– Enemies with INT > 180 should be complete bastards now as they should not re-use tactics that are already active… Difficulty should be higher against smart enemies.
– If Thwart is already active, they won't run it again (unless negated or expired).
– If the good guys used Thwart, smart enemies (180+) with negate will only attack or attempt to negate.
– If Evade is already active, they won't run it again (unless negated or expired).
– If Guard is already active, they won't run it again (unless negated).
– If Douse is already active, they won't run it again (unless negated or canceled by Thwart, Evade, or Guard).
– If Levee is already active, they won't run it again (unless negated or canceled by Thwart, Evade, or Guard).
– If Doubt is already active vs one of your allies, they shouldn't try to doubt the same person.
– If Mislead is already active vs one of your allies, they shouldn't try to mislead the same person.
– If Haste is already active for one of the bad guys, they won't run it again (unless negated).
– If Rally is already active, they won't run it again (unless negated).
– If Ce Mian is used by an ally or enemy, it cancels Ji Mian, Ji Rou, Wuo Jian, Shui Jian, and Cheng Nei
– If Ji Mian is used by an ally or enemy, it cancels Ce Mian, Ji Rou, Wuo Jian, Shui Jian, and Cheng Nei
– If Ji Rou (Guard) is used by an ally or enemy, it cancels Ce Mian, Ji Mian, Wuo Jian, Shui Jian, and Cheng Nei
– Cheng Nei effects added to Wuo Jian
– Cheng Nei effects added to Shui Jian
– New tactic called "Charge" (power pill effects) to replace Cheng Nei
…Uses Cheng Nei's tactic slot.
…If "Charge" is used, the Cheng Nei status is *not* added.
…Still using Cheng Nei's success/fail code so INT does play a factor.
…Calls power pill code for a guaranteed critical hit then may hit again with a normal hit due to agility based attacks.

ModeratorThink you could make a patch that applies just these specific enhancements? FLEXX
For some reason, XVI hex editor doesnt allow me to copy/paste strings of hex, I have to manually enter stuff, its horrible
July 13, 2012 at 5:32 am #43879MiDKnighT
ModeratorI always use the hex editor in FCE Ultra. It copies and pastes.
But I have an easy solution for you. Hopefully you have the last IPS patch. If you don't I can re-upload it. Here's what you do…
1. Patch a DOAE (1) with the previous IPS patch (latest version, 1.1).
2. Patch a DOAE (2) with the latest IPS patch (1.2)
3. Then make a new IPS patch using DOAE(1) as the original and DOAE(2) as the modified version with Lunar IPS.
4. Wala…you have a new IPS patch with just the new changes.

ModeratorI'm torn over whether to make "Duel" replace An Sha or make it a new tactic and combine Wuo Jian, Shui Jian, and Cheng Nei. What do you guys think? Which would you rather have?
Option 1:
An Sha
Duel
Wuo Jian, Shui Jian, and Cheng Nei Combined
*** If we kept An Sha I could make it harder to save state cheat with it. Ie… if you save state you get the same result each time (but may get different results in different battles with the same two generals)
or
Option 2:
Duel
Wuo Jian/Cheng Nei
Shui Jian/Cheng Nei
or
Option 3:
Duel
Wuo Jian, Shui Jian, and Cheng Nei Combined
??? New Tactic ???
July 13, 2012 at 2:16 pm #43882MiDKnighT
ModeratorHmm, after thinking about it a little more I'm thinking option 2. Gotta give the STR guys their cookies. The INT guys have A.I. and such now.
July 13, 2012 at 2:27 pm #43883sonic.penguin
ModeratorI've given "Behead" to lower int generals which balances it instantly. Higher Int officers above 200 can't use it. Thats one option for keeping behead, but 2 could be worth a try
July 13, 2012 at 2:48 pm #43884MiDKnighT
ModeratorIf you like option 1 I can go with that one… An Sha is a pretty well known and important tactic… Some people might not like me replacing it.
So now I'm leaning towards keeping An Sha… If I do then I can:
– Make An Sha less prone to save state cheating by giving the same result if you try it over again (but you can get a different result in a different battle or even a different turn perhaps with the same generals)
– Also add an expanded "No An Sha" list.
So if I do all this at the end of the day we will replace:
– Cheng Nei
– Wuo Jian
– Shui Jian
– Original An Sha
With:
– Charge (Power Pill effects)
– Protect (Wuo Jian + Shui Jian + Cheng Nei)
– Duel
– Enhanced An Sha
Making overall tactics quite a bit more awesome in my opinion…
July 13, 2012 at 3:10 pm #43885DragonAtma
ModeratorDuel is better than An Sha; in any case, though, I highly recommend using my semi-changeableness of page 1. Also keep in mind that many duels ended with both officers alive (although one may be wounded — or forced to retreat, causing morale changes).
So Duel should wind up like the Chance skill from some games; it could do one of these:
(1) An Sha on the loser
(2) Temporary "turns lost" on the loser
(3) Temporary power, speed, or defense increase on the winner
(4) Temporary power, speed, or defense decrease on the loser
(5) Negation of any power, speed, or defense increases on the loser
(6) Nothing happens!
(7) Duel declined (with a chance of #3-6, especially if the decliner has a lower Int)
Remember, at least one of the few duels that actually happened IRL (Sun Ce vs. Taishi Ci) ended with both of them unharmed.
As for Wuo Jian/Shui Jian/Ji Rou it would make sense to combine the first two but not the third. Of course, if you decide to increase the number of tactics, it makes sense to give two levels to them (25% block and 50% block). Although you can have a rare, nearly exclusive tactic that reduces all three…
As for Cheng Nei, it probably should be deleted; simply make the castle a 25%-level Ji Rou that the defenders start with. After all, if Jie Ce can cancel Ji Rou, why not cancel the castle bonus?
Finally, I stand by my statement that water tactics should be usable everywhere and affect the entire enemy army, while the fire tactics are stronger but hit one unit only. The way things are, the two overlap too much.

ModeratorWow Atma, that's a lot of work!
My ideas for duel were along the same lines. Here are my thoughts on your comments:
(1) An Sha on the loser <– Definately
(2) Temporary "turns lost" on the loser <– Hmm, I could give them Yi Xin status…in that case it would make sense to rename Yi Xin to "Injure" or "Wound" or something.
(3) Temporary power, speed, or defense increase on the winner <– Don't know how to implement this one. The tools I have available are Bei Ji, Qi Shou, etc…
(4) Temporary power, speed, or defense decrease on the loser <– Don't know how to implement this one. The tools I have available are Bei Ji, Qi Shou, etc…
(5) Negation of any power, speed, or defense increases on the loser <– I could remove Qi Shou and Bei Ji status if they are there.
(6) Nothing happens! <– Yep, a "Draw" possibility is certainly planned.
(7) Duel declined (with a chance of #3-6, especially if the decliner has a lower Int) – Yep, for this one I was thinking that higher INT generals would look at their STR vs their opponents STR and make a somewhat informed (although not perfect) decision about whether to duel or not. Lower INT generals would be more likely to blindly accept duels.
Quote:As for Wuo Jian/Shui Jian/Ji Rou it would make sense to combine the first two but not the third.I wouldn't allow all 3 of these to be active at once. Fire and water tactics would be reduced to nothing. I'm thinking something along these lines:
– Wuo Jian/Shui Jian/Cheng Nei are combined into "Protect"
– If Ji Rou, Ji Mian, or Ce Mian is cast, it cancels "Protect"
– If Ji Rou, Ji Mian, or Ce Mian is already active and Protect is cast, it either fails or simply adds Cheng Nei status (which doesn't do very much).

ModeratorWell, you can always have the Ji Shou, Bei Ji, etc. be permanent if nothing else is available…
And as for result two…
Duel result 2: "Song Yong was wounded!"
Yi Xin: "Song Yong's unit was tied down!"
Sustained: "Song Yong's unit is still unable to act!"
Finished: "Song Yong's unit is able to act again."
Finally, you can drop result four if needed. You can, however, have the message "Some of Song Yong's troops deserted in disgust!" and deal 10% damage or something…

ModeratorThe last one is a possibility. Knowing the tools I have available I propose:
1. Caster initiates "duel"
2. Target decides to accept or reject without user input. Higher INT generals will weigh the odds of winning and intelligently decide whether to accept or reject. Lower INT generals are more likely to blindly accept. Higher STR generals are also more likely to accept. Lower INT generals may receive some kind of penalty for rejecting (troop loss and loss of Bei Ji/Qi Shou status perhaps). MAYBE a very high INT general might send a stronger general to duel in their place. Ie…if you cast duel on Zhuge Liang, he sends Zhao Yun out to duel. This one is a maybe at this point.
3. If the duel is accepted, the two duel participants step forward and clash. Possible results are:
– A clear winner (loser is An Sha'd)
– A draw (nothing happens, both go back and continue)
– One participant is injured (Yi Xin status, loss of Bei Ji/Qi Shou status, possible troop loss)
– MAYBE: Both participants are injured and each get Yi Xin status and loss of Bei Ji/Qi Shou status.
I'm thinking with all these options I might need my own new text bank somewhere which I have no idea how to do yet.
Factors involved in winning a duel:
1. STR of each participant
2. AGI of each participant
3. STR of leader of the party
4. Secret sauce (not telling)

ModeratorAn officer sending out a higher Str ally certainly makes sense, especially if they're the strategist and/or the highest int officer on the team.
Double-wounding makes sense too.
And the Bei Ji, Qi Shou, etc. (or negation of them) in an accepted duel makes sense too; even if nobody's wounded, one officer may have to flee in disgrace. Similarly, even if both officers are wounded, one may have a worse wound (or seem to have a worse wound); it's certainly possible that Song Yong is perceived as the winner of the battle (+Bei Ji), yet Ma Yuanyi recovers enough (-Yi Xin) to fight before him.
If only one officer is wounded, though, it's safe to assume that they're the winner.

ModeratorAlso if the outcomes are close (STR, AGI, etc…) then it's more likely there will be a draw or with a participant wounded instead of An Sha'd.
But if there's a huge difference (Lu Bu vs Song Yong) then it's very very likely Song Yong is a goner (An Sha'd).
I'll work on "Protect" and the enhanced An Sha first (lower hanging fruit) as the "Duel" tactic is going to be a monster to code. It will probably take at least a week or two before I have anything to show for the "Duel" tactic.

ModeratorAn idea for the enhanced An Sha… How about instead of expanding the "No An Sha" list we just make it impossible to An Sha somebody over a certain INT (235+?) or impossible to An Sha someone with higher INT than the caster. I think we talked about this before but can't remember where that conversation was.
Or I could just do both and the expanded "No An Sha" list would be completely optional.

ModeratorGo with the enhanced list; even amazingly smart people can do amazingly stupid things and/or have amazingly bad luck.
And, of course, Pang Tong has 235+ Int…
