ParticipantWow, XZD, you never cease to amaze us.
Now once I figure out how to hex edit without killing the ROM, I’ll be ready to re-do the entire ROM :P
EDIT: Double WOW. I’m way out of my league with this hex editing stuff. I suppose my ROM will have script errors since I have no idea what the hell I’m doing :(

KeymasterYou are best.
Much love for this tool just at first glance. I will check this out more in the coming days.

ModeratorWow, nice work!
I didn’t have the courage to make something like this… it must’ve taken a lot of effort.

ModeratorNice! Regex would be pretty nice for this sort of thing, true enough. I worked on a project in Perl for a couple months, but we didn’t actually do much with regular expressions.
You know, there are much more popular games that don’t have as nice of tools as DoaE now :)
I need to get that soldier modification tool out of the way… then we just need to figure out how battles work, then events :P

ParticipantIt’s not as huge an issue as it seems XZX, I just do a lot better with complicated things if the lines I want to change are right in front of me :P
I was just kinda’ overwhelmed by all the spots where my editing could easily go wrong. Sorta’ like how the Tao Qian in Liu Zhang’s territory has some weird linkage to the Tao Qian in Xu Zhou. I changed him to Lu Yi for the purposes of my ROM, and now the game acknowledges the former Tao Qian of Xu Zhou as Lu Yi. *head spins*
…and Yes, I’ve made like 20 backups this time :P

Soldier tool should be easy. As a heads up, the game seems to round values to some pre-set scale. All the soldier values I increased in Wei did increase, but they did not increase to the values I set. Even if I made small adjustments they did not always change. I wanted to give Lu Bu 1337 soldiers when you face him with Yuan Shao.
Edit: Battles are the big priority. If we could figure out battles we could get so much done! That would basically unlock the game for all sorts of potential. I

ParticipantBack!
I use a Macintosh hex editor to apply data from this tool. It has an overwrite mode, which is what you are looking for in another editor. It basically allows you to pick a point in the hexadecimal code and paste a collection of hexadecimal data to overwrite following entries.
This is what you should look for in a Windows Hex editor.
I don’t think Hex Fiend (is that what it is called?) supports pasting strings of data. You could use that program to enter data one value at a time. If you do happen to find a good Windows program for doing more, let me know.
When editing text make sure you never overwrite the next conversation entry. Also make sure you include the terminating character from the script you entered (see discussions about editing text in this forum). I like to replace unused text space with 0A0A0A0A (etc.) so I know where free space has been left, too.

Participantif and when i find a windows editor that can paste strings, can i email you a couple of times with questions?
