ParticipantNine, all the way. Probably on my top twenty best games ever.
You have to remember, though; the very thing that makes you a nerd is that your enthusiasms are totally unrelatable and non-marketable to most of the world. For example, anime and celibacy. - Seanbaby

ParticipantConsidering the only one I’ve played a decent amount of is VIII, I’ll go with that one.

ParticipantYeah, 8 is pretty good, but I think that 10 beats it in almost every way except for music and Cao Cao having his ridiculous super army of 100,000 troops in the early scenarios.

KeymasterIX is the only recent one I have. I like the interface and all that, the game is just too slow for me.
I’ve played Romance of the Three Kingdoms III more than just about any other game ever. RTK 2 is pretty fun also, but other than those two I haven’t delved into the series too much other than trying IV on emulator and buying IX.
Your "best games ever" comment reminds me I was going to do a top 100 games list on lordyuanshu.com, moreso just for myself because I’ve never thought about it before.

ParticipantI’m guessing that list would turn out like this:
Top 100 Games
1. Destiny of an Emperor
2-100. Unimportant

Participant1. Destiny of an Emperor
2-100: Battletoads

ParticipantBattletoads is ok, but I lack the proper reflexes to make it past Level 3 very often.

KeymasterI can work Battletoads until I get to that Rat Race level, I think right after the Snake riding one…

ParticipantLaughs, I just started playing Battletoads a bit ago. I just recently beat the third level with the ridiculous racing stuff, it’s done better in Battletoads and Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team.

ParticipantOh, I remember that game. I played it once, like 10 years ago, it was pretty good if I remember correctly.

ParticipantBack on topic…my favorite is RTK X, because of the campaigns. When I got enough power to do so, I have tried to re-create the northern campaigns of Zhuge Liang and Jiang Wei, with not so good results. Other than that, I like to start out with a group of created officers in the Yellow Turban scenario, and in the southern part of China, where I can basically take EVERY city down there and become the *1st Emperor of Wu ;)*

i have played rotk 7… the fun part is…
you have to cheat using a gameshark
with 100 overall stat for your created officer and valor, doctor skill your like invincible
in the snes genre i liked the wall of fire… because its pretty easy than the dragon of destiny

ParticipantDragon of destiny is still good, (ROTK3) but my all time favorite for now is the 10 too.
The ones I played:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11(Demo in jap).
What i like and dislike:
1: I like the fact that koei actually atempted to release a big game for NES and DOS, but the DOS version is much easier IMO.
What I dislike is the way battles are done, and how officers die so easily.
2: I like the fact that they added the Created Characters, even if you can only make 2 of them.
I dislike that you actually have to get powerful chars to do battles with 100 soldiers. Also, rulers die too easily and almost never submit.
3: I like the fact that there are more new rulers that can be created, also that it’s much easier to take cities.
The only thing I really dislike is when the enemy gets a ridiculously powerful army, when you drained them of all their ressources at the begenning of the game (Choosing multiople rules anybody?).
4: I like the new graphics they put in for that game, and the duel are random, which is a lot better than in some earlier ones. Also, it’s now so easy to get powerful soldiers, except if…?
What I dislike though, is that the WIN version works better on WIN 95, 98 than XP. Only my laptop still has WIN 98, and the game runs VERY slowly (32 MB of RAM anybody?).
5: I like the new battles features and the system in general.
What I dislike is that, like in ROTK2, rulers die too easily, and also, if I could just understand the language…
6: What I like is that they added the barbarian leaders, and the CHAMPION class for the 30th CAW, which give better stats than Cao Cao (Finally!).
What I dislike is that rulers get killed too easily by barbarian leaders (See ROTK6 post on this forum).
7: Haven’t played yet…
8: What I like is that you can finally control somebody else than the leader! Also, sooo much items to buy!
What I dislike is when Ma Teng gets a ridiculously powerful army and starts to control the whole central plains. (When I’m not in his force, that is, if I was in his force, he would be defeated by either Dong Zhuo or Cao Cao.)
9: Haven’t played yet…
X: There’s nothing I dislike, really, I like everything, except Cao Cao and his ridiculously powerful 100000 men army when you’re not in his force.
XI: The 3D graphics are simply… AWESOME! I can’t say if I dislike something, since I only have a demo version, and it’s in japanese.
Hope that helps somebody in the future…

Participantromance of the three kingdom 1: ive only played this on nes…
2: easy game for me… but not challenging.. yea the officers die easily if you use charge to a unit who has a lower soldier count… you can easily recruit generals who has low loyalty thats how it makes the game easy(you can recruit lu bu with 60:40 chance….)
3: im currently playing the game with liu bei as my liege and i started out at scenario 2… its hard at start… but if you searched for potential officer later youll find your game easy( i got zhang zhao even at historical at year 194)
and if you create a new ruler i recommend you getting xu chang as i found it easy to search officers there….. for me that is
4: its easy…. compared to 3… captured officers when recruited are versatile… they can change lyalty too fast…. thats why the game is easy compared to rotk 3….
i havent played 5, 6
