Yes I’ve been using Yi Wen a lot for random battles lately. Most gate or castle battles though I’ll use a fire/water/boulder attack though so it’s not really beneficial for me to have decreased defense. Without Zhang Lu, generals can go down very easily especially when you begin to fight a new set of enemies. I’ll have to try that strategy when I get to Cao Cao though.

I think that’s obvious to say, but before facing Cao Cao for the final time, you must cover all the bases and make sure you’re totally set. Even if it means trying to build one or two more levels by picking off random general battles.
EDIT: YAY, bandit force rank achieved :P

I had a hard time with Yi Wen in the Han Zhong Castle battle against Xiahou Yuan. Too many guys get picked off for me. I did skip Zhang Lu on this though so that’s part of it.
Now I just skipped picking up that idiot Zhang Bao and picked up Guan Xing but I never have the proper weapon equipment for Guan Xing since his weapon style is different than his dad’s. Fortunately I can use the Yu Lin formation and put him on the opposite wing of Zhuge Liang and cast Huo Shen until I find a weapon for him. I’ve been using this lately with Jiang and Zhuge on the wings hurling spells and having a good defense.

You really need to have someone who can take Cao Cao’s hits and still remain standing. At this point in the game, the rest of your generals probably aren’t strong enough to survive two or three hits from Cao Cao.

While Guan Yu and Guan Suo use sabres, Guan Xing uses swords just like Zhuge Liang and Jiang Wei.
Hmm, what levels are you guys on? I train my troops at Mian Zhu Citadel until level 95 or above. If you don’t mind spend so much time strengthening your troops, you can do the same thing. Then, Cao Cao will go down easily.
I guess I need to be more humble towards enemy troops in DOAE2, by not maximizing my levels crazily. Then, I can try the Yi Wen array.
