ParticipantSo I have a few questions about the mechanics:
1) Does a War Manual or Red Hare ever cause agility to overflow back to low numbers?
2) What precisely do Slayer and Guard do?
3) Why can't I stop dueling people constantly? It's…it's like an addiction, I can't stop. I just duel, duel, duel all day long. Why does it have to be so much fun!?
In Ieyasu, I only ever saw one person killed in a duel, but in this game…man, Huang Gai and Chen Wu were like grim reapers for a little while. I kind of wish it could happen more often, but I realize there wouldn't be anyone left to fight if you could outright kill half of the enemies.
Thanks, and sorry if my questions are dumb.

1) Not sure, I only have on and Zhou Yu has it (I know you can more more later, just don't remember where)
2) Slayer does a large amount of damage to one person(not sure if it's a % or not), Guard is a 50% reduction in physical damage.
3)You'll have to look within yourself for that answer :D

ParticipantI have my own Question, I need an intelligent person end game who has thwart. I have yet to find anyone that I can recruit who has it. I'm really having a hard time with the smart guys due to this.

The War Manual will not allow a player to overflow back down to 0. This was an issue discovered in the Wei mod that occurred because those officers which gained agility were set to start above 122 which is the max. The War Manual (Red Hare replacement) will max an officers agility at 255 if they have above a certain amount.
Slayer is 100% guaranteed damage at a high cost which is great to use on those enemies with near impenetrable defenses.
Guard cuts physical damage in 1/2
Quote:3) Why can't I stop dueling people constantly? It's…it's like an addiction, I can't stop. I just duel, duel, duel all day long. Why does it have to be so much fun!?It's much more difficult in this mod, however, than Ieyasu. Tadakatsu just roasted people, but I've bumped up enemy stats and reduced the player stats a bit to make it more likely you will lose in a duel.

I'm really having a hard time with the smart guys due to this.Tough break. I removed that option from the game as it was ALWAYS the traditional way of beating DOAE. Zeal + Thwart + Smash every battle until victory. Now you'll have to pursue alternative routes as no officers you can recruit will have Thwart, unless…
Quote:No, that guy is neither of them. Just some crappy generic officer.I'll have to check into this one.

Try to open his profile and now this! http://imgur.com/iPLRKAN
And finally when you go back to the world map, you get this. http://imgur.com/7jbUo8l
Awesome lol
Just went back and recruited this officer. No issues here. I never tried waiting until the end of the game to go back and recruit officers that way.

Which i'm assuming is like Heaven in Ieyasu?

ParticipantWhich by the looks of it, I need Thwart for this as well since its all high INT officers…i'm not sure how we're suppose to beat that without Thwart since they'll just use Raise every time I manage to take one of them down…

ModeratorTry taking out specific officers first, or try weaking a few and taking out two at once, or change your line-up and see what you can do. If it winds up being TOO impossible I can make changes on it, but that section is meant to be ultra hard.

ParticipantJust wanted to let you know i've started a playthrough, and i'll keep you posted on bugs if I get any. I'm right after Chi Bi right know and I love the way you present the story…. You really want to root for the Wu guys, everybody else is a jerk to you, puts you down or flat out betrays you. The coloring of the towns is great, the dark green tone works really well. I love how you gave Lu Bu minimal soldiers but insane killing abilities, it balances the difficulty of that fight and shows you that Lu Bu is no slouc but that maybe Dong Zhuo should level him up or something….
The difficulty really picks ups around Lu Jiang and during the Shan Yue section, suddendly regular nondescript forces can really damage you if you only go on all-out…..the Cao Pi fight is giving me trouble, so i'm levelling up…i'm asking m,yself if there's a way to make the progression smoother..or maybe i didn't level up enoug and relied to much on Tashi Ci…..

ParticipantThanks a lot for the answers, guys!

Because I certainly tried to get him then, and I got that mad glitch too. Like I said, I can send a save state with Sun Ce still in the party getting this guy and glitching out the game.

ParticipantWait a minute, this officer isn't Xu Gong, or one of Dong Zhuo's guys, is it? If so, that would explain my problem…

ModeratorQuote:i'm asking m,yself if there's a way to make the progression smoother..or maybe i didn't level up enoug and relied to much on Tashi Ci…..A side effect I noted myself as it happened to me and at certain points I had to pull back and spend a little time leveling but nothing exteremely crazy. The static officers tend to be much stronger than the leveling officers when you get them, but then again, there are portions where no such officers are available so you'll have to decide what is best.

Give Lu Bu crap soldiers but he's still dangerous. Thanks for letting me know about the bugs.

ModeratorCheck if they're a townsperson (i.e. not an officer), as recruiting one will definitely cause that problem.

ModeratorQuote:Wait a minute, this officer isn't Xu Gong, or one of Dong Zhuo's guys, is it? If so, that would explain my problem…No it's not. I started a new game and attempted to recruit the officer and I had no issues on the release that is current. What version of FCE are you using? Maybe it was the patching mid-game that did it. ALSO, I have noted that sometimes using lots of savestates can mess with the data. Do you use savestates or save how the game is intended?
