2013 – Thinking about my next DOAE Mod once IPS patch 1.3 is secure and wow, those pictures a year ago I made and posted earlier in this thread are so crappy (see above) compared to the newer stuff.

Doing another ROTK mod would be easiest since you already have the portraits and such, but if you want another challenge, how about a historical mod from another era? And if you want to generate the most possible interest, perhaps a setting that’s been covered well in movies and such. Some ideas:
– 300 – Your army is small but ferocious. You have less soldiers than the enemy throughout the game but your band of soldiers is elite. Sparta!!!
– Alexander – The quests of Alexander the great with the climatic battle being fighting against elephants in India.
– Rome – The conquests of the first Roman emperor, Augustus.
Or completely fictional but based on popular movies and such:
– Lord of the Rings (raising an army for Rohan or something?) Perhaps you start off as Eomer (or his brother) and have to raise an army. Eventually you acquire Gandalf to help who takes on the Zhuge Liang role. If you don’t remember who Eomer is it’s this guy:
– Perhaps even a fictional Rome mod featuring Maximus from Gladiator leading a rebellion against the emperor
– Braveheart. Nuff said.

A Jiang Wei one would be fun too (Start off with him serving Wei or Zhuge).

The Cao Cao mod is something I felt like undertaking now that the big buggies are worked out of all 3 of my mods so far. I felt that probably revamping it and/or completely redoing it would be the ideal. Cao Cao mod would be easy considering the original DOAE story actually follows most of Cao Cao’s conquest destinations.

Yeah, the issue is having such a monster as Sima Yi the WHOLE game seems imbalancing unless I make troop counts super low for his army or just stack his force with a bunch of nublets…

Use James’ Cao Cao mod as a starting point, enhance it, and add a new “Jin” chapter (chapter 9).

Cao Zhen and his 2000 soldiers are useful if you get him when your army has only 1200 soldiers, but by the time you have 3200 soldiers, Cao Zhen is off to the billeting.
And if you want someone to last longer, give them a rising-but-not-too-quickly-rising soldier count. Zhang He’ll keep up with Sima Yi and such in soldiers, but as he gets old, you can cut back his soldier counts like so:
Sima Yi | Zhang He
1000 | 1000
1500 | 1500
2000 | 1900
2500 | 2100
3000 | 2300
4000 | 2500Obviously people can keep using Zhang He as he ages (just as you could take vanilla’s Song Yong to fight Sun Quan just for laughs), but if Chen Tai has similar stats and twice as many soldiers…
October 25, 2013 at 5:26 pm #52638sonic.penguinModeratorTrue, I guess you’re right about that, or even giving them static soldier counts, but that makes it “cheap” for some situations. For example in Flames of Wu, giving Taishi Ci a static soldier count was just a cheap way of billeting him instead of him dying.
What would be interesting would be to utilize the Lu Bu/Xu Zhe events to remove multiple people from the player party. For people like Dian Wei, Xiahou Yuan, Guo Jia etc that would need removal at certain points this would be the case, but having Jia Xu all game long in addition to Sima Yi and his club just makes it a smash fest for uber intelligence officers which I wish had more “removal” potential.

I actually already have most of the code to do this. Perhaps I should make this an official enhancement.
