Lots of people are whining about it being on DS and a handheld in general. I’m just glad they’re doing something with the series.
One thought though I hope is that they don’t do what FFTactics did once Nintendo got into it (making it much more childish). It looks like it has the potential to do that with the graphics, at the very least it may not be as ‘mature’ as prior Suikoden’s (not that they were particular violent).
4 party members is a bit of a bummer, it’s hard enough to rotate in 6 guys when you have 70 some to choose from (of course not all 108 are playable in battle). Hopefully they do a nice job at least differentiating character’s.

The Suikoden main characters have generally been pretty childish, with more mature characters like Flik, Viktor, and the strategists guiding them and lending a bit more mature tone.
That said, I’m also hoping they don’t "kiddify" it. It happened to Wild Arms, it can happen to Suikoden! I have much more faith in Suikoden, though. Its larger scale means it’d have to make entire countries of children and completely get rid of the scheming and politics that make up the majority of the stories.
This news really made my day. I’m glad I have something to look forward to other than P4 and various remakes :)

ParticipantI just hope it doesn’t turn into another Suikoden Card Battles. I really hope they keep the 6 member party system, or go up to eight (hey it could happen). I also hope they keep the different formations like in Suikoden 5.

KeymasterNah dude 4 characters in battle has more or less been confirmed if you look at the screens on the famitsu pages.
I agree though, 6 was perfect.

KeymasterYea I’m a little wary of this game but I’m curious about more information as well. I saw a bunch of the characters, the artwork is a little different.
This site has some cool stuff

ParticipantNormalized MP? I don’t like the sound of that, as I really enjoyed the challenge of deciding when to use certain spells in battle.

KeymasterAgreed, that was another turn off. It was a feature that made Suikoden unique from the typical, MP / TP RPG

ModeratorLooks pretty cool. I hope the battles flow a lot faster than that guy was clicking through them, though… it looked really slow.
The battle victory music brought back memories, too.

ParticipantI read in a gaming magazine that the 104 Stars who died are reborn, some as party members/shop owners as usual, some as creatures, and some as… Weapons and such. Yeah, that is kinda odd.

KeymasterSome are reborn as weapons huh?
I really don’t like the graphics in this game, the more I look at them. Or at least I question why they couldn’t use the classic Suikoden graphics instead of standard rpg-fare graphics

ModeratorLYS was saying the other day that he read there are
- No Runes,
- No Strategy Battles,
- Some stars are weapons
- Normal enemies do not drop Potch
- Weapons are equipped, not improved
Gee, that sounds like a regular ol’ boring RPG to me. They’d better have some damn good characters if they want this RPG to have a snowball’s chance in hell of being worth playing. Suikoden’s always had good characters, but they were icing on the larger-scale plot, swift combat-filled, military epic-inspired cake. Now most if not all of the cake’s gone.
