ParticipantUnfortunately I didnt realize that twitch stops recording after 4 hours, nothing after the Cao Hong fight got recorded :crybaby:
EDIT-Wait wait, nevermind, the original video caught up after about 15 minutes, all the footage is there! YAY!

ModeratorQuote:All doneYay! I'll go check out the key fights.
Quote:I'd say the difficulty was on par with the original save for a few spots in the very beginning since you start out so much weaker.Insulting lol… It might seem easy after Ieyasu but it should be considerably harder than the original. Try playing the original, it is cake (except for Sima Yi).
Quote:But it was fun, my team had to change alot!If you still have that Destiny urge then if you like changing teams Yuan Shu mod is one of the best for that. Lots of usable generals. Lud's is like that too if I remember correctly. The Cao Cao mod is a classic and hard as heck.
Maybe you'll be the first to play every mod although I think LYS has played most of them (maybe all, not sure).

ParticipantI'll get around to it eventually, having just played nothing but DOAE mods for the last week and a half I think I should take a short break from it lol.
I'll be streaming something else for a couple of days I guess.
But I said I'd check yours out too, and I did :D
Thanks for hangin out in the channel through the whole thing!

Yep thanks! Was interesting seeing someone else play it. Other players do things you never think of.

ModeratorI'd say if we could adjust the effects of Cheng Nei to make it either more effective or replace it altogether it wouldn't be such a waste. Its just that its effects are nearly negligible that make it so bad.
Quote:I'd say the difficulty was on par with the original save for a few spots in the very beginning since you start out so much weaker.Id say the difficulty was very hard at first, I died a lot as well, but it did get progressively easier as the game went on. I'm going to have to replay it to see if you got rid of those end-game guys with scorch >_>
Quote:Much save state cheating going on 8)Heh, yeah this was funny and did get a little crazy at times. When I play test the mods in the final stages of editing I try to do as little of this as possible so as to make it the most balanced. I remember SShacking ALL the way through the Wei mod as bandit forces were crushing me all the time, it was a tad bit excessive having to go to an inn after every battle.

ParticipantHeh, for whatever reason the attack tactics werent really that useful compared to just upping my melee damage and focusing down all the tacticians.
The Lu Bu mod however tactics were really powerful.

ModeratorThe final chapter was easier than before. Some of the later changes must have done that. Will revisit the end game again to toughen it up some more at some point.

ParticipantWould've been even easier if I had kept those two "Unrecruitable" generals I snagged lol.
I'm kind of glad I didnt, I was expecting a tough wall at the final battle, had I kept them it would've been WAY easier.

ParticipantAlright, playing this again and very impressed at the changes made over the past year. Especially with the unique portraits for like EVERY OFFICER. lmao @ the cui bros' faces

I believe it's spelled Regent Marshal, with only one L.

ModeratorBut… but what if Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall goes back in time to bring democracy to ancient china? 8O

ModeratorHurt my back back the beginning of July…. was bedridden for a good while. sitting / standing for more than a few hours a day still hurts.
Played through this mod on netbook while in bed.
I approve.
Balance seemed to be right for not requiring a lot of resets, and didn't need to save state abuse at all.
8 tactics were nice, although some battles were grrrr with everyone having negate heh.
A few of the standard bugs relating to people gaining levels that you didn't actually have etc. prolly already mentioned as well, but at lvl 51, yuan shang's health bar disappeared. i nearly put yaun tan in just to see what his 73k soldiers looked like :).
Cao Hong slapping is LOL.
Stepping out of Nan Yang and meeting gungsun zan for the 'go home fight', i had only person alive afterward. kinda weird walking around in this game without anyone following you heh.
Being able to come back to the sun quan and liu bei fights was a tad handy. Although… getting liu bei as jiang wei replacement and then having liu bei vs liu bei was… weird.
The 'pang tong' sun ce fight after jing zhou was one of the hardest if i recall correctly. although some of the earlier sun jian fights were hard as well.
For my party, I generally stuck with people who were either good int or balanced int/str with decent/good agility. Zhou rhemng lasted me up until either Chang Sha or maybe into the liu yan area.
Final party was Jia Xue advisor not in combat. Ju Show party lead, liu bei with red hare, yuan shang, yan liang, zhang he (useless guy until end of game sigh). Feng Ji was there as possible swap out for the last fight (just so party lead had higher int than cao cao)… but… wasn't necessary it seemed.
appreciation for not making the first phase of the final battle not be extremely TP heavy… it made the last half more doable and less of a coin flip.
i did have one fight… near the end iirc… where… ran out of TP, had the enemy strategists dead, but i actually lost the fight due to being out phys damaged by the enemy hehehe.

ModeratorGlad you liked it. I'm planning a major update to this mod to incorporate the new stuff. Stay tuned.

ModeratorOh, some of the historical recreation bits were good too.
Only real complaint is how mostly useless Zhang He was. Several other mods have similar problems with the zhao yun replacement (the 1/2 soldier count to everyone else makes'em useless in mods that are usually more difficult). I think a mod had one that was more of a strategist than physical attacker… which was viable (i think ?).
Dunno if I used chunyiquong much.
Also learned something new in this mod -> negate also cancels doubt effects.
Wan Fu not healing 100% is a god send. Damn AI with unlimited TP's.
I really liked the life spells.
One tiny nitpick regarding everyone having negate – it did make 'rally' a tad less useful for the cost. I realize it's a powerful spell and should have a decent cost… but… it seemed to be worthless in Wu and Wei.
Agility based attacks are definitely interesting, and made general choices a bit more interesting… not so much in an offensive sense, but in a defensive one. Given that the game has always hit hard (original and mods) once ya get into the gongsun zan area… getting hit more than once can prove unfortunate.
I think I got hit by an sha a bit earlier than expected in the game and was like 'wait… what ?'. Cute surprise, but didn't really affect my party choice or game play any. Oh, and I didn't cast an sha once during my game play.
I did make use of the early-game-area -> late-game-area cave enemy population bug for after ru nan… including bringing along a single smoke pot for the trek between caves heh.
I'm sure it's been mentioned, but a TP restoring item would be kick anus. Can't really think of an item to swap out with it though. From my own game plays, Elixer B would be the thing I tend to be least likely to use (and possibly Elixer C). All DoaE players would be up in arms, but swapping it out with the power pill …. … ok… can't get rid of power pills hehehe.
August 2, 2012 at 3:24 am #37907sonic.penguin
ModeratorQuote:. ok… can't get rid of power pills hehehe.Well, you can now as there is a new tactic that does critical hits XD. Actually, I was wondering myself a few things such as
1. Changing how much HP elixirs restore
2. Changing the amount of/cost of food at food shops which never seem to get used except end-game.
3. I agree, replacing 1 of the elixir types or even two of them for some kind of TP restoration item would be pretty slick.
August 2, 2012 at 3:28 am #37908DragonAtma
ModeratorGiven how everyone in the game drops food, the food shops are almost unnecessary. Maybe it'd be better getting rid of food entirely.
