I’m sorry I tried really hard to find the monk in YiJing and I just can’t. I tried walking through every bush, going in every house, going to the sides of the city (can’t, as soon as I touch the white snow I leave the city), searching around the wells, talking to everyone multiple times and searching in around the palace. I can’t find the monk. Maybe his house is no longer there with the map update? I’m at a loss.

Zeckt, now that you are a member here you have access to all the DoaE mods, just head to this LYS downloads page to find them (have to be logged in for the link to work).
MiDKnighT, I asked it a bit ago but did we ever figure out why Wang Gui/Zhou Chao in the original DoaE are sometimes not in their spots in Luo Yang and Chang An respectively?

Yes. The original game was kinda weird with that. You had to have already recruited another officer(s) for Zhou Cang to show up. The original DOAE would punish you for not recruiting people and reward you if you did recruit people with more recruits. I documented here:

September 1, 2022 at 1:34 pm #55143Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterGood stuff here. I do recall that anytime Wang Gui was missing, Zhou Chao was too. Makes sense in a way, like the game realizes you’re not interested in these generic warlords so they figure if you skip one you don’t need the others. That said, I almost always recruit Yang Jin in my playthroughs just because up to that point there isn’t much better even if you use him for only a bit. Is that the only requirement for the Wang Gui spot to be there, to recruit Yang Jin? The guide doesn’t really specify, it just gives the code to add to fix the problem.
Oh and you refer to it as “Zhou Cang” on the guide you linked – should change that to Zhou Chao. I don’t think the Zhou Cang spot is ever missing. Gotta love those generic, made-up DoaE guys.

Huo Hu's Adventure started Destiny of an Emperor hackingSeptember 1, 2022 at 1:37 pm #55144GrundyParticipantI remember the original game being as bit buggy. Like hidden weapons not being where they’re supposed to be, chests respawning in the last cave with the weapons in them again.
September 1, 2022 at 1:41 pm #55145DragonAtmaModeratorIt’s an error in programming; IIRC if the slot 7 officer learns a tactic, it checks if the slot 8 officer learns one…. except there isn’t a slot 8, so it fiddles with something it really shouldn’t (chest/hidden item data, I think).
September 1, 2022 at 1:45 pm #55147Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterGood call Grundy. I recall the Sword in front of Pang Tong in Ling Ling sometimes isn’t there. That’s the only one off-hand that I can recall as missing occasionally, is that the one you were thinking of?
I guess even if it isn’t perfect we still gotta give them credit – it was the late 80’s when they made it and all of our rad DoaE programmers spent countless hours fixing their rare errors anyway.

I remember being frustrated about the Trident because it was 100 attack and was miles ahead of anything else we had at that time.
September 1, 2022 at 1:54 pm #55151Lord Yuan ShuKeymasterHmm, not sure if I have ever seen those too missing. It took me many years to even find the Trident, I’m not sure I found that until the internet was around actually. There is some armor in Cheng Du that is good for the area that I know I didn’t find until Meteorstrike did his testing to find it. Trident is definitely beastly though. Without that, it made getting the Bow from Wu Ling even more important.

September 1, 2022 at 1:58 pm #55153GrundyParticipantI remember calling a 1-900 number when I was a kid to find where Chi-Tu-Ma was. I thought my mother was going to kill me when the phone bill came in. lol

I called the hotline when I was lost in the tower of Babel in Final Fantasy IV. I think I made myself scarce the day the phone bill came.
For DOAE I watched my then brother in law play it first so I saw the places he got stuck and learned :) I remember dreaming of taking the next castle, couldn’t wait to continue playing it. To this day DOAE is one of the most addictive games I’ve ever played.

I loved all the FF games from I-VI. Unfortunately I didn’t have a sibling to watch so I had to learn everything myself. lol
September 1, 2022 at 6:01 pm #55157zecktParticipantIs there something wrong with Zhang he’s troop count? I read the forums a bit and you all talk about him like he’s an effective unit but he has a piddly amount of troops at this point of the game, like 2300 at level 28 compared to generals I want to replace like Wen chou with 3400. Yuan Xi has 5500, over twice as much. How can Zhang he be effective if he can be wiped out so quickly and not have enough troops to do any damage?
