ModeratorYeah, that’s something I should add to the editor to automagically do, but I’m not sure what the value should be if people *do* want 3-word names ;)
In the byte before the name of that character, enter FF instead of the value that’s there.

ParticipantYin xian is awesome I totally prefer it over wan fu until I hit 20000 troops or so. I wish there was another one that healed like 10000 to all instead.

KeymasterThat’s what Jin Xian does (more like 6000-8000 soldiers each though)

ParticipantYeah I was thinking that didn’t sound right after I said it. well then make my wish for 12000-14000 instead.
December 11, 2007 at 10:19 pm #30826Fallout
Participantnice game so far…i’m going to get chen gong right now. i love the fact that so many peeps can level up. zhang xiu hit my bench real quick with a bad ass wen chou on board.
do you think i’d cut huo hu?
December 11, 2007 at 11:00 pm #30827Zhang Lu
ParticipantHuo Hu can never be cut…well, he can, but you should never cut a 200/230 guy :)
Then again, I did cut Lu LingQi, Yuan Shao, and Yuan Shu to make way for Taishi Ci, Lu Xun, and Cheng Pu :P
EDIT: I will continue the walkthrough ASAP…but I want to work on an officer guide first, so here’s the makings of it.
Chapter 1 – The Tyranny of Dong Zhuo
Ding Yuan – 200/180 – Soldiers Vary
Analysis: You begin as Ding Yuan. Good officer whose usefulness is short lived.
Dong Min – 105/60 – 314 Soldiers
Analysis: Cannot be recruited. He stinks, so why would you recruit him anyway?
Dong Zhuo – 220/60 – 399 Soldiers
Analysis: Cannot be recruited. Fits the mold of a tank officer, one who can dish out and absorb hits.
Hua Xiong – 230/55 – 259 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Dong Min at Mt. Da Xing. Does not gain soldiers, but if you’re in need of some heavy hitters to finish off this section, here you go. He’s also good if you want to give yourself less trouble in the decisive battle against Dong Zhuo.
Jia Xu – 35/245 – 314 Soldiers
Analysis: Cannot be recruited…YET. He is a tough foe with that 245 INT. Don’t worry, you’ll get your first true tactician soon.
Li Ru – 5/230 – Soldiers Vary (236 in battle)
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Dong Zhuo at Tie Men Xia. Speaking of true tacticians, say hello to Li Ru! With a 230 INT, recruit him ASAP. Despite that, don’t bother using him in battle, he hits like a girl. He’ll be your tactician for a little bit, because you’ll get another chance at Jia Xu in the next area.
Li Su – 85/30 – 613 Soldiers
Analysis: Cannot be recruited. Whoa! Dong Zhuo gave this jobber THAT MANY SOLDIERS?!? Free experience for us!
Lu Bu – 255/100 – Soldiers Vary
Analysis: Joins after you beat Dong Zhuo at Qing Zhou. It’s Lu Bu, what else needs to be said? The greatest warrior of the land is under your control. Enjoy it.
Lu LingQi – 230/215 – Soldiers Vary
Analysis: Joins you in Xu Zhou. Will be your jack of all trades for awhile. She’s Lu Bu’s daughter, and she rules. Use her to attack and use tactics.
Wang Kuang – 190/170 – Soldiers Vary
Analysis: You start with him, Ding Yuan, and Zhang Yan. Balanced officer, solid for the time you have him, and you have him for awhile. Put him as the 7th general in your lineup after you get Chen Gong, or sooner if you get someone you like better.
Yang Feng – 200/75 – Soldiers Vary
Analysis: Joins with Yu She in Lou Sang Village. A tank officer. Good strength, not much intelligence. Your use of him should be limited at best.
Yu She – 210/85 – Soldiers Vary
Analysis: Joins with Yang Feng in Lou Sang Village. A tank officer. Good strength, not much intelligence. Your use of him should be limited at best.
Zhang Yan – 205/155 – Soldiers Vary
Analysis: You start with him, Ding Yuan, and Wang Kuang. He’s no Guan Yu, but he’s got solid stats. He’ll be useful for the entire time you have him.
Zhu Jun – 200/180 – Soldiers Vary
Analysis: Joins in Qing Zhou. Look, a Ding Yuan clone! At least when Ding Yuan leaves, you’ll still have someone with his stats around. Whether that’s a good thing or not, is up to you. Solid officer anyway.
Chapter 2 – The Rise and Fall of Cao Cao
Cao Ang – 165/130 – 399 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat him at Chang An gate. A balanced officer, but one of those lower-end balanced officers. Leave him out there for experience purposes.
Cao Cao – 220/245 – 557 Soldiers
Analysis: Dies after you defeat him at Chang An. Real shame too, because he’s an incredible officer.
Cao Hong – 200/155 – 439 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat Cao Ren at Luo Yang’s second gate. Not a terrible officer, but you have better options.
Cao Pi – 190/210 – 460 Soldiers
Analysis: Dies with Cao Cao after you beat him at Chang An. Again, that’s a shame because he is a very good officer to have.
Cao Ren – 220/140 – 380 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat him at Luo Yang’s second gate. Strong warrior, but does not gain soldiers and therefore really isn’t of much use to you. He’ll fall way behind into the next area.
Cao Zhang – 230/115 – 380 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Zhang Liao at Yangzhou. His hitting power can be a bit of a pain, but he doesn’t gain soldiers at level up, so his 230 strength is not enough to justify recruitment.
Cao Zhi – 50/210 – 418 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Zhang Liao at Yangzhou. He’s a low-end tactician, you can do better. Next.
Guo Jia – 45/240 – 399 Soldiers
Analysis: Cannot be recruited. Another guy who could become your tactician…but you won’t need him when you get Jia Xu earlier in the area.
Jia Xu – 35/240 – 418 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat Zhang Liao at Hu Lao Gate. This is the same Jia Xu in Dong Zhuo’s service. However, for some reason, he lost 5 INT. Maybe after you beat him, he lost the Way of Peace. Get him ASAP, so that you can put Li Ru and his 5 STR in billeting :P
Kong Rong – 75/180 – 399 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Cao Ang at Chang An gate. Kong Rong is an average tactic-user and is not worth your time.
Li Dian – 170/160 – 439 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat him at Luo Yang’s first gate. This is typical of Cao Cao’s officers…not too strong, but not too weak either. In your case though, it’s not enough to justify a recruit.
Yue Jin – 190/130 – 380 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Yu Jin at Fan Shui Gate. He’s not terrible, but he’s not good enough for you to recruit him.
Yu Jin – 200/155 – 418 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat him at Fan Shui Gate. Slightly stronger and smarter than Yue Jin. Doesn’t mean you should recruit him though. Only do it if you’re hideously underlevelled.
Zhang Liao – 235/230 – Soldiers Vary (439 in battle)
Analysis: Can be recruited during the Yang Zhou battle if you have the Gemsword. Use it on him until he says that he’d give anything to have it. This is Cao Cao’s answer to Lu Bu. A wonderful officer, he’ll make this area and the next easier if you want to use him. Watch out for his traitor-ism :P
Chapter 3 – Liu Biao the Emperor
Cai He – 100/60 – 585 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat Cai Zhong at Chen Cang Fortress. Piss-poor abilities and a low soldier count means that you should fight him all the time for free experience. Even more worthless than Cai Zhong, if that’s even possible.
Cai Zhong – 110/75 – 613 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat him at Chen Cang Fortress. Piss-poor abilities and a low soldier count means that you should fight him all the time for free experience.
Han Song – 60/170 – 643 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat him at Huai Nan Castle. One of Liu Biao’s many mediocre civil officers. Don’t waste your time.
Huang Zhu – 170/80 – 817 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat him at Yuan Castle. Despite a good soldier count, you should not recruit just because you need more soldiers. Leave him out.
Kuai Liang – 70/200 – 675 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat him at Nan Yang’s first gate. A 200 INT is always good, and you’re lacking in pure tactic users right now. You could snap him up for a brief run in the next area.
Kuai Yue – 80/210 – 585 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat Xiang Lang at Nan Yang’s second gate. Another 200 + tactician. He, along with his brother, Kuai Liang, are pretty much the only two usable recruits in this area. Do not hesitate to recruit him if you need a solid tactic user.
Liu Biao – 125/170 – 942 Soldiers
Analysis: Will either die at Nan Yang or will flee to Yuan Shao’s side.
Liu Qi – 135/70 – 899 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat Liu Biao at Nan Yang. Sick Liu Qi’s ratings make me sick. He’ll make you sick too if for some reason you recruit him.
Liu Zong – 145/160 – 899 Soldiers
Analysis: Cannot be recruited. At least he’s stronger than his sick brother. Even if you could recruit him, he wouldn’t be of much use except as a punching bag for future rounds.
Su Fei – 145/60 – 613 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recrutied after you defeat Han Song at Huai Nan Castle. Su Fei stinks, and you should stay away from him as much as possible.
Wen Pin – 200/90 – 675 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat Huang Zhu at Yuan Castle. While he is one of the few strong officers in Liu Biao’s army, it’s still not good enough to justify any sort of time in your army.
Xiang Lang – 50/160 – 460 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat him at Nan Yang’s second gate. A poor excuse for a civil officer if I’ve ever seen one myself. Next.
Chapter 4 – The Yuans Get Trampled
Dian Man – 190/55 – 1037 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Zhang He at Ji Zhou’s first gate. He is the son of Dian Wei, but he is pretty mediocre compared to him. Probably not worth a recruit.
Gao Gan – 190/165 – 1037 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat him at his fortress. He’s the opposite of Shen Pei, more strength than intelligence…but he doesn’t gain soldiers at level up, so Gao Gan will not be of too much use to you.
Gao Lan – 200/115 – 817 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Zhang Xun at Bo Hai Castle. A solid officer, but you have enough of the kind of officer Gao Lan is. He just doesn’t quite measure up against the likes of Zhu Jun, Wang Kuang, and Zhang Yan. If you’re having trouble getting Yan Liang or Wen Chou after you beat them, you could settle on Gao Lan and his higher INT. It won’t kill you to let him help you for a bit.
Ji Ling – 225/80 – 1381 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat Zhang Yi at Ji Zhou’s second gate. Another strong bruiser, but lacking in intelligence. He gains soldiers after each level up, so if you’re going the route of a melee party, pick Ji Ling up for the ride.
Lei Bo – 180/25 – 1255 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Yuan Shao at Ji Zhou. He’s pretty strong, but is as dumb as a brick. You can’t have people with 25 INT rolling around in your party, so pass him up in favor of the likes of Ji Ling, Yan Liang, Wen Chou, or even Gao Lan.
Shen Pei – 160/195 – 1255 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Zhang Xun at Bo Hai Castle. Shen Pei is a solid if unspectacular officer. He gains soldiers at level up, so if you need a solid tactical officer, Shen Pei and his 195 INT will not disappoint.
Tian Feng – 75/230 – 989 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Yuan Tan at Guang Zhong Castle. A 230 INT makes Tian Feng a force to be reckoned with, and despite his low soldier count, I believe he is at the very least worth taking along for a short time.
Wen Chou – 240/55 – 1449 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat Gao Gan at Gao Gan’s fortress. Wen Chou is a mirror image of Yan Liang, only with 5 more STR and 5 less INT. He’ll be as useful as Yan Liang is up to the exact same point, at which you’ll have to put them in billeting in favor of more intelligent officers.
Yan Liang – 235/60 – 1449 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat Gao Gan at Gao Gan’s fortress. Yan Liang is in the mold of Lu Bu: Strong yet dumb. He does gain soldiers at level up, and is a step up in the bruiser category ahead of Zhang Yan, Wang Kuang, and Zhu Jun, so he could be useful to you until you get to the stronger tacticians.
Yuan Shang – 170/130 – 1255 Soldiers
Analysis: Yuan family members cannot be recruited.
Yuan Shao – 200/200 – 1754 Soldiers
Analysis: Yuan Shao will flee once you defeat him. You can’t recruit him yet, but you’ll get your chance soon.
Yuan Shu – 200/170 – 1317 Soldiers
Analysis: Yuan Shu will flee with Yuan Shao after you defeat him. You can’t recruit him yet, but you’ll get your chance soon. Also, for some reason, Yuan Shu will appear in field battles in the Zhang He position. I’ll have to work on removing him from field battles altogether :P
Yuan Tan – 160/115 – 1317 Soldiers
Analysis: Yuan family members cannot be recruited.
Yuan Xi – 145/90 – 1141 Soldiers
Analysis: Yuan family members cannot be recruited.
Zhang He – 230/175 – 989 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat him at Ji Zhou’s first gate. A quality brawler with good intelligence, Zhang He can be a fixture in your army to the end, as he does gain soldiers. Recruit him ASAP.
Zhang Liao – 235/230 – 1449 Soldiers
Analysis: You might be wondering what Zhang Liao is doing in Yuan Shao’s territory. Well, I’m wondering too. He’ll vanish after you beat him, so you cannot recruit him just yet.
Zhang Xiu – 210/185 – Soldiers Vary
Analysis: Joins after you give him the Zhou Letter. This is another strong officer in the region. High strength plus a good intelligence. You’ll use him for awhile as well.
Zhang Xun – 170/30 – 899 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat him at Bo Hai Castle. Mediocre general, you could use tactics on him all day. Not worth it.
Zhang Yi – 100/90 – 989 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you beat him at Ji Zhou’s second gate. Recruit ONLY IF YOU WANT A CHALLENGE. He’s useless.
Chapter 5 – The Shenanigans That is Jingzhou
Duo Si – 200/35 – 1449 Soldiers
Analysis: Cannot be recruited. What is a Nanman officer doing at Chang Sha? Hell if I know. He’s strong though.
King Mulu – 210/30 – 1037 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Duo Si at Chang Sha. Typical bruiser, but will fall prey to tactics. Consider him as a beefed up Lei Bo. Pass.
Liu Dai – 185/140 – 1317 Soldiers
Analysis: Joins with Zang Ba after you defeat Duo Si at Chang Sha. Liu Dai is the epitomy of "Meh". Let him and Zang Ba join, but let them go to billeting and get drunk.
Yan Pu – 45/170 – 1141 Soldiers
Analysis: Can be recruited after you defeat Zhang Lu at Wu Ling. Why couldn’t I make Zhang Lu recruitable and Yan Pu UNRECRUITABLE? Yan Pu sucks. Don’t recruit him.
Zang Ba – 215/130 – 1141 Soldiers
Analysis: Joins along with Liu Dai after you defeat Duo Si at Chang Sha. Decent general, but at this point, you should have a few better options.
Zhang Lu – 185/200 – 1449 Soldiers
Analysis: Cannot be recruited, which is really a shame. Not only does Zhang Lu look like Huo Hu, but he’s a good officer with his 200 INT.
Chapter 6 – The Reluctant Fall of Shu (No matter what the townspeople tell you!)
Fa Zheng – 80/225 – 3110 Soldiers
Analysis: Here is another run of the mill tactical officer. High on brains, low on brawn. Not smart enough to help you after this area. Only recruit if you’re in desperate need.
Guan Suo – 230/175 – 2827 Soldiers
Analysis: Is recruitable after you beat him. Strong hitter, but by this time you should have more than enough of those. Next.
Jiang Wan – 70/210 – 2965 Soldiers
Analysis: Recruitable, but why bother? Mediocre across the board. Next.
Lu Yi – 180/115 – 2695 Soldiers
Analysis – Recruitable after you defeat Shamoke…and again, why would you recruit him? Next.
Shamoke – 205/60 – 3110 Soldiers
Analysis: Recruitable after you defeat him…but why? He’s worthless!
Yan Yan – 225/200 – 3110 Soldiers
Analysis: Recruitable after you defeat him. Yan Yan is one of the more useful characters down the stretch, as he has a strong enough hit, and is smart enough to keep enemies honest. Recruit when you have the chance for, if nothing else, to keep him out of future encounters.
Zhang Ren – 210/145 – 2965 Soldiers
Analysis: Gee, Zhang Ren got jobbed here! Can be recruited after you beat Guan Suo, but is it really worth it? No.

Participantwell depending on who replaces the original 2 tigers (forgot their names), i might just ignore the replacements and go after taishi ci and lu xun!
can’t ditch lu lingqi, though…
December 12, 2007 at 4:37 am #30829thechieftain
ParticipantNoway, lu ling qi and huo hu and mainstays for sure. Gao shun replaces one the tigers and he is pretty sweet too.
December 12, 2007 at 7:45 am #30830Zhang Lu
ParticipantI think Lu Bu’s tigers are…
Zhang Yan (Guan Yu)
Wang Kuang (Zhang Fei)
Zhang Xiu (Zhao Yun)
Zang Ba (Huang Zhong)
Yuan Shao (Ma Chao)
At least there’s one recognizable name in the bunch (Yuan Shao), but I’m going to give the group some credibility. Here are Zhang Lu’s choices for who I think are Ding Yuan’s Grand Generals
Lu Bu (255/100)
Zhang Xiu (210/185)
Gao Shun (225/150)
Zang Ba (215/130)
Zhu Jun (200/180)
I personally think that’s a decent bunch…for arguments sake, we’re discounting Lu LingQi or any other general you can recruit in battle.

Participantbeat it last night, with Huo hu, Lu xun, gao shun lu lingqi, and deng ai, with chen gong warming the bench and lu su as my tactician.

ParticipantI had to ditch Lu bu, he kept getting an sha’d like every fight in wu and on.

Participanti got taishi ci and deng ai, and i’m impressed! instantly in my line-up. but, lu xun on the other hand, i can’t seem to get that slippery bastard! did he transfer over to wei, or am i just unlikely trolling for him in wu?
December 13, 2007 at 1:38 am #30834Zhang Lu
ParticipantYou are trolling Wu for him :P
Speaking of Wu…I need to continue my officer analysis thing :)
Thanks for pretty much reminding me :P
