Lunar Silver Star Meribia
As you start Lunar Silver Star, you’ll see some scenes with Alex and his pet Nall. Ahh, the effects of the Sega CD. Press C to check out your menu, status, and so on to get acclimated to Lunar’s system. Head south and you’ll run into Ramus, a greedy and ambitious character who insists on going on an adventure with Alex. Not much else to do in Burg at this point in time, so talk to everyone and leave via the west exit.

Once on the world map, head to the northeast of Burg (a few steps actually) to get to Burg Springs and go to the northeast to see Luna’s bouquet. Search it and you’ll get a scene with Luna singing and Alex playing the harp. Beautifully colorful but also shows the Sega CD’s strong suit (“FMV”). Luna will join you and bring up the treasure in your house (if you’ve searched Burg you’ve probably seen this locked chest). Notice that Luna has the Song function. Cascade raises attack power for Ramus and Alex and this is very useful for this initial period.
Back in Burg, Ramus will still be busy packing food or whatever so search that chest and then talk to your dad. He’ll give you the Chest Key which you should use on the chest to acquire a Dagger and Heavy Clothes. Give those to Alex and then talk to Ramus at the exit. He’ll join and then go back to his house and search the northwest of it for an Old Ring. Leave Burg now and put Ramus in the middle before you do battling.
You may wish to build up, but regardless head northeast until you get to the coast. Then you’ll have to head south, winding west eventually and you’ll see an Althena Shrine. You can rest or donate silver, although you’ll donate 100 silver each time and after ten donations, the woman will sing to you. Not really worth your time but you may wish to use the free rest to gain some levels before the cave.
Inside the White Dragon Cave, an ice block will be blocking your way. Examine a few times and move on to the west. The enemies in the area are noticeably more difficult but nothing you shouldn’t be able to handle. As you work your way west and a little south, you’ll come to a short eastern path leading to a Wooden Shield. Give this to Alex and continue, taking the south path to leave the area.
In the second floor of the White Dragon Cave, you’re going to want to head south and west a little, and then north. Take the west fork and continue west until you hit the wall, and then go north. A quick east will net you the Herb while north gets you to the next floor. Now in basement two, go south and then east (west leads to a place where you can do nothing). You’ll be at Quark’s lair.
Quark is the White Dragon and you’ll have another cutscene with him. He tells Alex of his destiny to go to the mainland and return a man. After he finishes talking, talk to him a few more times for some different dialogue and eventually the Dragon Diamond to go along with the Dragon Ring (also 30 EXP) . If you’d like, you can train up as Quark will heal you anytime you’d like. Anyway, return to Burg to advance the story.
First off, try to sell the Dragon Diamond to the shops, but they won’t have the cash for that. They advise you to go to Meribia, so leave Burg but buy a few Short Swords for Ramus/Alex and some Heavy Clothes for Luna. Once outside, head west and continue west, ignoring the south fork for now. When you can go north, do so and talk to the people in the shack. You’re going to have to find this Axe in the Weird Woods. Leave the shack and go further north, continuing up the coastline. Eventually you’ll get to a Magic Recovery Point and the Weird Woods are just a bit north of this. You’ve also probably seen various HP Recovery Points so far in Caldor Isle. Use these to your advantage if you like building up levels.
Upon entry of the Weird Woods, you’re going to want to head straight south for a pair of Heavy Clothes. Now go just west of this and continue heading west on the lowest path and you’ll come to a Tiara for Luna. Just a bit north of here is a man named Laike that you should talk to. After talking to him, you can head east and north to look at a locked treasure, or you can head north and west to get to the shack. Grab the Woodcutter Axe inside and exit the Weird Woods.
Hit that Magic Recovery Point again and then return that axe to the logger at the shack. You’ll get 15 EXP for this deed. Return to Burg and talk to your parents. Your mom will give you 500 silver and your dad will give you the Father’s Letter that may help you get a ship. Outside of Burg, head due west of the Logger’s Shack and you’ll see that little tiny bridge he made. Cross it and follow the river south, heading east when you can. Keep going through this heavily forested area and you’ll come to Saith.
Talk to everyone around here and get some Poison Darts for Luna. In the bar (far south, near the port) you’ll learn some important tidbits and you’ll also meet Nash, who’ll join you if you accept his proposition. Equip him with the Water Cane and get out of Saith. Head straight west this time until you get to the river. Now head north and you’ll come to an HP Recovery Point, and if you head northeast from here you’ll be at the Old Hag’s house where you can exchange the Water Cane for the Sea Chart. Back in Saith, talk to the captain about the Sea Chart, but you won’t be able to sail until you go to the Lighthouse and take care of the monsters so you can get light to sail. He gives you a Flint to use there.
More tedious errands, the Lighthouse is to the northeast by the way. Very linear area, but due to this fact there is a high encounter rate. Great place to build up though, with the first floor guy restoring your HP/MP. Fighting up to level 9-11 might be a wise choice. Anyway, the second floor has a pair of Leather Clothes. Continue up and you’ll have to do some more walking. On the fifth floor is a Sling and you can use the Flint in the center area to get the fire going (10 EXP acquired for this deed). Leave the area now and rest before you head back to Saith.
Actually before you go it may be wise to un-equip Luna and Nash’s equipment for the time being. Talk to the Captain again and he’ll acknowledge that you’ve helped him enough; follow him to the pier, where Luna will tell you that she is going to stay! And when you get off the ship in the new continent, Nash will leave you also. Head to the northwest part of town to attempt to sell the Dragon Diamond (the shop has a Dragon Diamond-like symbol). Agree to the 4000 silver and Dross the salesman will depart behind the door. When he doesn’t come back, follow him in and go south, talking to the two people. After talking to the guard, you are to go back to Meribia to get Nash’s help.
From Dross’ place, head to the west and then south until you can go west again. This is Black Rose Street that Nash said he was going to. Head west a little and directly north into the shop. Talk to Nash and the store owner to get magic for Alex. Leave Meribia to the north and head to the east to an Althena Shrine. Build up several levels to prepare for the Meribia Sewer and to acquire new magic for Alex. Careful though, chances are you are under-equipped and can’t afford the goodies in Meribia. Also the green bush-like enemies take off a devastating amount, and you only have Alex and a weak and slow Ramus. Be very conservative or you’ll die often, but the more levels you gain out here the easier the sewer shall be. Also you’ll hopefully be able to afford some armor goodies at Meribia, like the Carapace Armor for Alex. Don’t bother upgrading Ramus’ stuff.
Back in the Meribian Sewer, you’ll be forced to use Alex’s magic to win battles. Or you could just run. Anyway, follow the path until you get to your first intersection; north or east. North nets you the Starlight, while east leads you to a long path, going south and then back west. If you work your way to the northwest of this area you’ll get an Herb. Go south from here and then east when you can, to get another Starlight. Now be ready before you go in front of those stairs, you’ll have to face the Water Dragon! Your first boss, well hopefully Ramus has the Starlight’s and a few Herb’s in his possession to help out Alex. Ramus isn’t going to be able to do any physical damage so just flee or use healing items with him. Honestly you’re better served to let him die and have Alex get double the EXP! Shouldn’t be too hard of a battle if you have the MP to cast a ton of Flame spells. Go down the stairs and get two more Starlight’s and go to the southeast of this area to find that bastard Dross. Keep declining his bullshit offers until he says 3000, because you aren’t getting any more. Ramus will gladly take his half and you can now leave the Meribian Sewer. Once outside, talk to Nash and agree to pursue magic in Vane. Ramus will split so hopefully you un-equipped him and have some money to get good stuff for both Alex and Nash.
