Battle of Han Shui
“After the formation of Shu, Liu Bei marched on Han Zhong. Hearing of this move, Cao Cao hurried to counter. His armies marched on the outpost of Han Shui, guarded by Zhao Yun.
In the year 219 AD, the young dragon and the old tiger took to the battlefield, their shimmering spirits reflected in the cool waters of Han Shui.”
Strategy: As you read above, Shu has just been created and this is the initial campaign on Han Zhong. Zhao Yun is protecting the southeastern base, in an attempt to buy time so that Huang Zhong can sneak-attack the enemy base camp. The assault on the Shu base camp is strong, so be prepared at all times to protect it.
Huang Zhong and Zhao Yun lead very different paths in this, Huang Zhong having the more difficult one. Chances are, if you are Huang Zhong you will want to skip the whole ambush thing. In order to succeed, you have to kill all 12 Defense Captains with an arrow, and you must stay a good amount of land away so that they do not spot you. If they spot you, the morale will go down immensely and Zhao Yun will be worried.
You will probably not have time to mess around with Zhen Ji or Cao Pi/Cao Cao. Their base area is stacked with archers and you have no one there to help you but yourself, and by the time you get past the ambush area (especially if you took the time to shoot each guy) Yue Jin and Sun Li will probably be in your base. The two of them are powered up, so if you are short on time it may be wise to just kill Yue Jin, causing Sun Li to run. Cao Zhang and Xu Huang will probably be in the area as well, so take them out.
Be wary of the southeast gate also, as Cao Xiu and Cao Hong will attack this. Cao Cao, Zhen Ji, and Cao Pi are left. The latter two are powered up, but Cao Cao isn’t. Even better, they get no stat increases. They are still dangerous, but try to draw them out, and try to fight them after you’ve made sure your base is completely safe (might be good to wait until Zhuge and Ma Su come along).
Meanwhile, Zhao Yun starts off at the bridge. You’ll see Task Leaders everywhere; kill them, as the more that go in your base the more your morale will lower, and if a large amount go through Cao Cao will charge your camp. Just make sure you hold the bridge, even when the powered up generals like Sun Li come to attack. This should be easier than the Huang Zhong scenario, as protecting the main base is less of an issue for Zhao Yun.
When the north is wiped out, switch to the southeast passage and take out the Cao’s. Hurry back, as Xu Huang and possibly Cao Cao will be charging the north again. Work your way to the main base, taking Zhen Ji and Cao Pi last.
