ModeratorIt’d also probably go ape if you tried to enter a DoaE2 rom (trust me, I’ve seen people do MUCH crazier things…).

some things can corrupt your file, notably when you load up another ROM into DoaEditor after having one open. For some reason this corrupts the file if you try to load it when you already have a ROM on DoaEditor.
Actually, this should’ve been solved. If it’s not I’ll have to take a look at it.
Sorry I haven’t been doing more on this… rest assured that the more I hear about people wanting to mod DoaE, the more I will work on it ;)
If you can, try it with a fresh ROM. That error message is pretty much a catch-all and can mean a lot of different things.

ParticipantI’ll download the rom from kongming and see if that works. I’ll let ya guys know. Thanks a million!

ModeratorSO umm, Atma suggestions for DoaEditor:
(1) Include the hex code for the officer’s location
(2) Have two options: (1) sort alphabetically (2) sort by hexcode
(3) Make the window a bit bigger — the Portrait BG part gets slightly cut off.
(4) Include all the data values for those dropdown menus — you mmay wish to autosort them.
(5) Eventually have it grab the portrait graphics from the game itself, as some people (such as that crazy DragonAtma fellow) change things.
Although I know very little about programming, the first four should be much easier to do, so you probably should do the fifth one last. Keep in mind, however, that I just woke up, so please don’t An Sha me if I’m wrong about programming easiness.

You’re right. #2 is already in there, I think- or perhaps it used to be (I don’t remember whether I disabled hexcode sorting or whether I made it an option).
#5 is tough. I know very little about the NES’ image format, so I’m reluctant to take it on given I have another side project I’ve been working on (well… off and on).

ModeratorI have the 6/24 version, and there’s no sorting feature :(
Does that mean there’s *gasp* a newer version!?

ParticipantYou know what would be nice… a reference for each officer that displays the original officer name in the original ROM. That way, when I’m editing some dude who I have changed into a different person three times over, it is very easy for me to check and see that, yes, he was originally Guo Jia. Sorting by hex value, with hex values listed, might help to achieve the same task.
November 8, 2008 at 9:44 am #26852DragonAtma
ModeratorIf they do that, they should allow two original names, as we don’t really want a "Hey, this guy’s all new!" flagging when all we did was rename Cheng Y uan Zhi to Cheng Yuanzhi…

Participantok guys so the new rom worked on the editor. now I have a lot of learning to do :( I’ll get there though

ModeratorNew version (0.91) has been released. A bunch of small changes that should make DoaEd a bit easier to work with :)
Atma: I got changes 1-3 in this one. #4 would involve a couple more troublesome bits, so it’ll have to wait a bit unfortunately.
PLEASE backup your rom before working with the new version! I’ve done some basic smoke-testing but I can’t say for certain all this will work, particularly with multiple re-sorts and re-loads. Sorting in particular is a bit of nastiness; I haven’t seen any bizarre behavior but if there is ever a problem it will manifest itself by setting your ROM on fire and scattering the ashes to the winds.

If you have any questions, please post them here!

ModeratorMan, did my words about backing up the ROM scare everyone off or something? All of a sudden things got really quiet.
My testing involved a couple sorts, changing a few characters’ names and stats, exporting, then reimporting and verifying everything changed. Nothing went haywire, so if that worked I don’t think any wires are crossed too badly.
I just wanted to reinforce that back-up idea. And yeah, if sorts mess up things will go poorly – but I don’t think they will given what I’ve seen.

ModeratorNah, we’re busy using DoaEd 0.91!
Sure, we can’t give Huo Hu a four-digit stat, but…

I’m moving right now, so no computer time for me!
But after things settle down I’ll be using it to resume work on DoaE 2.0 v2.

ModeratorHey guys,
Looks like I can’t edit the first post! So I’m forced to link a new version waaaaay back here.
Version 0.93 is now up for beta grabs. This adds the "Unanshaable" flag was well as the "Unbilletable" flag.
These aren’t easily explainable in interface, but you can click these flags if they can be modified. Thus since the billeting flag section defaults to being full, you have to remove one of the other flagged-people from it before adding a new one! If you fill up An Sha-immuneness, it’s done with unless you remove someone. Etc.
The newest version is available here. Again, this is beta as usual. I haven’t extensively tested it beyond the new flags.
Also, I’d like to point out a weird forum import bug: see all of James’ posts in the first page that are cut off early (example).

KeymasterYou should be able to edit old posts now. I changed the number of minutes you can edit a post after posting to 999999999. :D I’m not really sure why a bunch of James’ posts got gimped but I’ll try and revive them from my db backups as I find time… :cactuar:
