Hmm… would you mind sending that to me?
I was actually thinking about creating a little Destiny of an Emperor portrait maker on KMA which allows you to select the tiles and build your own portrait, dumping out the appropriate hex code when you are done. This is a little less useful thanks to what Niahak has done, but if it is easy I still might do it anyway. Maybe I’ll even allow it to create a new portrait graphic. :)

ModeratorThe individual images are all in the portraits subdirectory if you want them.
I considered dumping them in each color (and if I know the palette values, I could easily with FEIDIAN) but that would take up a lot of space. Probably easier to figure out how to change colors in a loaded bitmap :)
Will have to consider that later.

ParticipantDoes this mean I can access portrait images without having to copy the codes from the game as I access character data? I can’t even begin to say how awesome such a thing would be, but I fear I read you wrong, Niahak.
What!? Zhuge Liang controls even the heavens?

ModeratorYes. In the editor, you will see a portrait preview (as shown in the first post, where you can download the latest).
Because I’m too lazy (and pretty busy lately), I have only made it so it will update when you select an officer. So if you want to tweak the numbers and see the new portrait, save the officer, select a different officer, then select the first again and the portrait will display.

ModeratorHavign it greab the graphics form the rom itself would be quite useful — I’m not the only one who edited them!
I will, of coruse, ahve to set a whole bunch of generics to F0F1F2F3F4F5 and such, but…
June 28, 2008 at 5:16 am #26836Niahak
ModeratorYeah, I thought about putting that in but it was a heck of a lot easier to rip the standard ones :)
To get them from the ROM, I’d have to figure out the NES graphics format, all kinds of new stuff about the lower-level C# drawing stuff, etc, etc. While learning can be fun, with something like DoaEd I’d like to start with convenience and then work my way towards better functionality.
Plus it would take me several hours, I’m moving this weekend, busy next weekend, and working overtime :)

ModeratorYou know, you probably should have each general’s page show the data byte associated with their hex number — that’d make battle editing easier, especially for alternate force edits where you move a whole bunch of people around.
If anyone cares, the Jin Xuan mod has a whopping 58 officers replaced by new (e.g. Kong Rong) or moved (e.g. Jin Xuan) generals.

For the time being, all the information is here.
It is a good idea, though! :)

ParticipantI would like to request a very useful feature. :)
Currently, for me at least, Destiny of an Editor only offers soldier levels which are actually being used by an officer in the game. If a troop total is not being used, it is not available in the editor. Would it be possible to have all troop totals in the .tbl file be displayed at all times, even if the ROM doesn’t contain an officer who is currently using that total?

ModeratorI’ll take a look tomorrow. Shouldn’t be too difficult to do.
Same with displaying the hex number for an officer in battles.

ParticipantGuys, when I try to load my DOAE rom into Destiny of an editor, I Get an error message that reads " An error occured while reading the ROM file. Index was outside the bounds of the array. " Does anyone know how I can correct this problem?

ParticipantIt sounds like you’ve got a corrupt or edited ROM to me…
Make sure nothing is being corrupted when you download and de-compress files. You might try downloading the ROM from another source? You can get it from this website, or over at kongming.net as well.

KeymasterHey Zhao Yun :) huohu
Chances are something happened to this ROM, like Xuande says. Download a fresh Destiny of an Emperor ROM and see how that works (where did you get your DoaE ROM anyway?). You probably had a fresh ROM…but some things can corrupt your file, notably when you load up another ROM into DoaEditor after having one open. For some reason this corrupts the file if you try to load it when you already have a ROM on DoaEditor. Long story short, just get a new rom and you will be able to tinker with it :) If you had done a lot of work and lost it, well, that happens with this. That’s why it helps to plot the character switches in a text file (with the portrait values too) to make things easier if something ever happens (which it does with something like this).
