KeymasterQuote:Just finished the section at Wu Zhang… always gets me a little depressed. You're such a Shu homer! Just kiddin… The Zhang Fei assassination is what gets me, Shu with Guan and Zhang is weak (even though Zhang is kinda washed up by that point).
TK is definitely fun to just pick up and read. However I've become a little disillusioned with it lately, usually it's the fairy-tale aspect of some of the story telling. So I've been reading a ton of SGZ / Rafe de Crespigny. I love the shit you can find online just googling around, have learned a lot about early Dong Zhuo, Qiang tribe / Han Shui, He Jin, Eunuchs, Yellow Turbans, etc. Dong is awesome, he's up there with LYS for me.

ModeratorYeah, through the early part of the book I sympathize with Wu more, but that kinda ends after they ask for Jing the third time – right about the same time Lu Su dies. When Zhang Fei + Guan Yu die Shu is almost totally doomed. I disagree about Zhang Fei being totally washed up at this point – I think it's more that Guan Yu's death sent him over the edge. Fei had a few really crafty victories beforehand, although I guess it didn't dwell on his treatment of troops much until right before he died.
Zhao Yun puts in a few more years of capable service, but once he's gone, they pretty much just have Wei Yan (and a couple lesser generals, I'm surprised at how capable Wang Ping is for example). And Wei Yan's hardly reliable.
I haven't read any SGZs or Rafe since college, maybe that's something I could start to pick up again next year :) I really did enjoy them, but reading stuff via computer just isn't as compelling.

KeymasterQuote:Yeah, through the early part of the book I sympathize with Wu more, but that kinda ends after they ask for Jing the third time – right about the same time Lu Su dies.Yea their post-Chi Bi back and forth with Shu makes me lose credibility for both of them. If they weren't going to see it through and push through Cao Cao together, all the work done in Chi Bi to reduce Wei's power was just going to be neutralized.
Reading more about early era Wu, Sun Jian impresses me. Was the only coalition general / army to scare Dong Zhuo (and routed Hua Xiong and even Lu Bu numerous times). Cao Cao's army struggled vs. Dong and Yuan Shao was downright scared of him (Liu Bei didn't have the army to be a factor really).
Quote:I disagree about Zhang Fei being totally washed up at this point – I think it's more that Guan Yu's death sent him over the edge. Fei had a few really crafty victories beforehandTrue. I did say "kinda" washed up huohu I know he did a good job in Liu Zhang's land, earning some respect of the generals there with his brains (Yan Yan I know for one). But that's just what I remember from the book (again, this is what bothers me about the book I don't know what's real lol).
Quote:Zhao Yun puts in a few more years of capable service, but once he's gone, they pretty much just have Wei Yan (and a couple lesser generals, I'm surprised at how capable Wang Ping is for example). And Wei Yan's hardly reliable.Definitely agreed. Shu's big advantage was high-end talent with Zhilong, Zhang Fei, Guan, Huang Zhong. Once they died off, there went that. Wang Ping's ascension was weird, Liao Hua too.
Quote:I really did enjoy them, but reading stuff via computer just isn't as compelling.Haha, see I'm the opposite. Books put me to sleep for some reason but also being able to click a link on a name is nice especially with RTK since there are a million names.

ModeratorHistorically, Zhang Fei was fairly smart; the book shows him as a moron, though, so Koei games tend to give him 35 Int when he probably should be around 60 or 70.

ModeratorX and Y values should be displayed in the bottom of DOAEditor. As for the first 2 boxes, I usually just play around with those until they hit on the right "spot"

ModeratorNiahak how hard would it be to allow to move warps and battles? Once we have that feature I'll re-start working on my Gongsun Zan mod since I'm too lazy to manually move towns and such.
January 3, 2012 at 2:47 pm #27199Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterBut it's so easy once you get the ball rolling!
1. Use Hex Editor to find caves / towns original addresses and write them all down in notepad.
2. Make map changes to put castles / caves where they you want.
3. Use FCE Ultra real-time Hex Editor to find where new locations are.
4. Open the game up in hex, ctrl + h the cave or castle and change the values.
I know you know all that…just saying, I don't think it's too bad (but of course if the Editor can do it sometime that's cool too, but I don't mind as it is..)

ModeratorBattles are already moveable (via the Battles tab), although I'll admit it IS kind of a pain.
Warps I could make moveable through a similar mechanism (separate warps tab).
I still haven't come up with an interface I like for it that's still not a pain for either me or the user.
Maybe I could do a "Pick spot" button that you can click in the battle/warp menu?
If you click it, it brings up the "big map" in a separate window Clicking on that zooms into the localized map, and you can click exactly where you want it on that. When you're done, the right values are filled in for that spot.

ParticipantJust do something like what I did where you show that a tile has a Warp by highlighting it or marking it with an X or something. Then, if the user right-clicks on that tile, a menu pops up with the option "Select Warp". Then the user can right-click over a new tile, right click, and select "Move Selected Warp Here". That would be a very simple option to program and very intuitive for the user.
Another option would be to allow drag-drop of warps, but this requires you can show the whole map at once, and besides, drag-drop would be annoying if the user wanted to drag it to a tile outside of the shown map area. But the first option above should be easy enough to code.

ModeratorText banks in bank 3 i believe tend to overflow and bork my roms. There doesnt seem to be a warning like the other banks.
There was another issue I found but I forgot

ModeratorQuote:Text banks in bank 3 i believe tend to overflow and bork my roms. There doesnt seem to be a warning like the other banks. There are only two banks, so I'm not sure what you're referring to. If there's a line I can look at, that would give me something to go from.
Let me know when you do find the other issue.
Quote:Then, if the user right-clicks on that tile, a menu pops up with the option "Select Warp". Then the user can right-click over a new tile, right click, and select "Move Selected Warp Here".That's better than anything I could think of. I'm not sure why I couldn't come up with a "warp-grabbing" system.
Shouldn't be too hard to do, either. I can probably knock that out soon. Thanks for the suggestion!
