KeymasterWarps are used in towns and in caves too. There are also warps for Gullwing spots ie where you end up when you Gullwing (usually right below or above the city).
Quote:Maybe that's how they're referenced on the village/castle maps? With one exception (IIRC, some guy's house on the way to Shu), you always come out exactly where you come in.Yep, this idea is used in a few different places. Like Gui Yang castle, if you enter it and leave without defeating Zhao Fan, you appear north of the castle so you can't continue. Zhang Song in Shu is the same way – you will continually end up on the east end of the house so you can't continue (until you recruit Zhu Ge Liang). Pretty sure those are the only two instances (oh wait, also Fan Shui Guan when you visit during the Yellow Turban era and then you exit the gate and end up on the north side so you can't continue).

ModeratorLYS, how did you change the warps for exiting caves? I cant seem to find that.

KeymasterSame way we do it for any other warp. Open the hex editor in FCE Ultra when the game is open, then go in a cave. We look at the same area we did before (line 60 or something)?
I gotta do some stuff outside for a bit but I'll be back to look further. I know I changed the cave east of Nan Yang and it turned out fine, the only weird caveat was that when you exit the cave your characters are all positioned oddly (and sometimes put in the mountains).

ModeratorI found a weird warp, and I'm not sure what to do with it…
At 0x1c865, there's a warp that refers to:
Tile Y: 137 (!)
Zone Y: 14
Tile X: 15
Zone X: 10
It appears to refer to a castle at (N, 10) whose name escapes me…
If I take the mod 16 of 137 to get a reasonable value, I get 9 (which is absolutely right), but it seems weird to use that as a general rule when this warp appears to be an exception. Is there something odd about this castle?
The region is 151 if you'd like to take a look in the editor.
And just in case you'd like a preview of this functionality, I've put a release up.

I'd like to get individual sub-tiles implemented before a full version increment (i.e. exact tile you walk on -> warp, rather than showing the 2×2 square).
I'm also clearly missing some warps in the non-worldmap sections.

ModeratorI tried using the new DoaEditor but it's giving me an unhandled exception every time I look at a region with a castle or something on it. Example:
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.
************** Exception Text **************
System.IndexOutOfRangeException: Index was outside the bounds of the array.

at System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.OnSelectedIndexChanged(EventArgs e)
at System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.WmReflectCommand(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.ListBox.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)
The castle you are referring to is Wu Ling and there's nothing special about it that I'm aware of. The warp information for Wu Ling that I have is:
890E0F0A –> 0C1F0F1B
The "Y" should be 09 – I've seen some cases where they do something with the extra bit. Not sure what in this case. This is one of the castles that the bad guys re-take but Ling Ling castle (the other one) doesn't seem to have this extra bit.

ModeratorI've re-uploaded, same link and all. Give the revised one a shot.

ModeratorQuote:I'd like to get individual sub-tiles implemented before a full version increment (i.e. exact tile you walk on -> warp, rather than showing the 2×2 square).I see what you mean. The latest version works for me – I see the whole tile highlighted. While you're on that train of thought might want to consider displaying battle locations too (obviously in some other way than warps).
December 11, 2011 at 6:07 am #39977Niahak
ModeratorOh yeah, one thing I didn't mention – you can mouse-over the highlighted tile to get info on where the warp goes. It's very vague right now, but better than nothing :)
If you can get me a list of the potential locations, I can wrap that up in another table, so you get "(tile 7, 5, map 3, 7, Luoyang)" instead of what it does right now.

ModeratorI think I have all or most of the locations laid out in the guide on page 1. Is that what you were looking for?
December 12, 2011 at 4:26 am #39979Niahak
ModeratorYeah, that's pretty much exactly it. That's what I get for not paying enough attention, thanks.
I'll try and come up with any that aren't in that list sometime soon.

KeymasterDo we know specific spots for sprites in villages? Like for example if I wanted to change Zhang Shi Ping's sprite from the shopkeeper to a bandit, where would his sprite value be? If we don't know this it's cool, just curious.

ModeratorYes LYS you should be able to do that with what we know. See the Towns – Villagers part of the guide.
December 17, 2011 at 8:32 pm #39982sonic.penguin
Moderatori still am having issues locating portals inside of caves. LYS, help me out on this one. How can I make the warp inside of a cave exit where I want to on the world map?
Caves always end at 0F or 00 and I can't seem to find the warp data…
December 17, 2011 at 8:53 pm #39983sonic.penguin
Moderatornevermind, found out how… just had to freeze the emu immediately upon entering the warp. I have the same issue as you its because of changing the 1st value after the 4 warp values which makes you come out like that.
December 17, 2011 at 9:45 pm #39984Lord Yuan Shu
KeymasterRight on. Glad you got it, it's kind of a confusing concept warping out of the caves.
I'm wondering something about the patch. To be a tactician, is there some new threshold? Because I have someone at 168 I want to be tactician but it's saying they can't (and I did give the person tactics up to Li Jian or whatever).
